Hi mate, greetings from Germany! If you accept a comment from a kraut, here it is! LOVE your modeling skills and indeed a superb kit you have presented. I can leave a bit of advice regarding the coloring - indeed the blue is quite heavy or saturated but this is due to perception… You are faced with the Scale Reduction Effect Theory! The science behind it is based on our eyes playing tricks on us because we know what the color is rather than what it looks like from a distance. The premise is when standing beside an aircraft within arm’s reach, for example, she will appear one color. When viewed from a distance, the same color previously viewed at arm’s length will now look different, much lighter. The farther away the object is, the lighter the color becomes. To solve this scale reduction effect dilemma, one needs to adjust for scale effect. The Color Scale Effect Adjustment Ratio for a 1:72 Scale model is to add 15% white. This is a tip in good faith from a former enemy… Cheers!

Great job. Haven't built an Eduard kit yet but will give one a try based on your video. Thanks for sharing 👍

The Eduard Spits are simply brilliant little kits. I built a Profipack Mk. IX first, and then a Weekend Edition Mk. VIII, both in USAAF North Africa schemes. The extra detail of the Profipack was fun to install but I have to remind myself that I build in 1/72, almost nobody is going to inspect it closely enough to notice the extra effort spent. I'd happily build more of them.

Great build! I love the Eduard kits. The weekend edition are a good comparison to the Airfix kits. I usually get the Profi-Pack editions as they come with more detailed parts and Photo etch plus canopy masks. AK Interactive makes the best Era specific paints for each country and they come in kits so you have all the options for that Year range. My opinion of course but you won't go wrong even though they are a bit pricey. The are matched to the original mix so the colors are as close to authentic as you can get. Check one out, they go on great and no chalky appearance when dry. AK is my go to for WWII specific paint and they even give you a few Camo options in the sets you can use for reference.

flippin' eck! I have one of these eduard mark IX's up in the loft waiting to be built, that one kit has six different options as far as I can remember, I also have one of the old tool airfix Mk IX's and it looks like there are as many parts in just the eduard cockpit as there are in that entire kit!

Hi Capt’n - must say love your style 👍 - I tend to find that while Vallejo paints are very good quality they tend to come out a little on the dark side (not a star wars reference) - look forward to your next project 😃

Nice Spit. Next time, try putting the instrument panel decal on the part with raised detail for the best of both worlds. The other flat part is actually intended for photoetch parts in their other editions of the kit.
@VFCproductions2 ай бұрын
@simonmowatt in 1/48th scale or bigger I probably would have. In this scale the part is so small that the depth isn't really an issue. If I was committed enough, I'd have just gone for the Profipack version!

Gday mate, if you dont mind a gentle comment or two. The small bump you added to the lower right engine panel is in fact the cover for the Coffman starter unit. These first appeared on the Spitfire 2 being an alternative to the electric start unit. The little round thing on top of the fuselarge, ahead of the windscreen is NOT an oil filler, its the fuel filler cap for the main fuel tanks. The propellor unit can be made to spin on a shaft if you decide to spend abit of time on it, its not hard i make all my kits props spin if i can. The options with the dash panels is abit much, the real aircraft panels are near flat with only the "6" main gauges being slightly raised. I found the seat mount to the main frame, not the floor etc. The actual colour is an elephant in the room, i thought it would be lighter in colour as well but it depends on who says so. The Spitfire Mk 8 is the best of the Merlin engined Spitfires, although built after the Mk 9s due to war demands. Nice build you have there, kind regards, from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺

Ah the rabbit hole that is Malta colour schemes! Some were overpainted blue on the US carriers on the way to Malta, some were painted blue in Gibraltar, some were painted blue on Malta. As there are very few photographs in colour, the choice of blue is a combination of research, conjecture and personal preference! I'm a bit of a Malta 42/43 fanboy and I have all sorts of books and articles on the subject and frankly there is no one correct answer. Dark Med Blue is a very dark colour.

@FinsburyPhil I intended to do more from the med, particularly the 42/43 combo as it looks great! Thanks for the info

@@VFCproductions I can recommend Brian Cauchi's Malta Spitfire Vs-1942: Their Colours and Markings. A bit specific but loads of great info, pictures and colour scheme plates. Also The Fighting Colours of Richard J. Caruanna 50th Anniversary Collection, 2: Malta George Cross. Both of these guys are Maltese

Looks very nice but I have a slight nit pick. It's great to have the ailerons turning, but it doesn't make sense if the control column is set to centre. I've no idea how to adjust such a tiny item to show it turning but you get what I'm saying.
@VFCproductions2 ай бұрын
@fizzyridertoo Yes, I know it's odd. Unfortunately, as I decided to turn the ailerons after the interior was done, adjusting the column would have required some fiddly actions. Or Maybe the Spitfire has a dodgy cable and is awaiting some attention from a mechanic?
@VenlyssPnorr2 ай бұрын
I do think the Eduard kits are a a little over-engineered if I'm honest. I have their weekend edition Spitfire VIII (come on, the VIII is much nicer than the IX :D) and I've not yet attempted to build it as I feel a bit intimidated by what I view as unnecessary over-complication of the build process.
@VFCproductions2 ай бұрын
@VenlyssPnorr fair comment (apart from the LIE about the Mk.IX not being rhe nicest), and I had the same feeling at first. However, the instructions are clear, and the parts fit nicely, so whilst over-complicated, I think the overall experience is worth it
@VenlyssPnorr2 ай бұрын
@@VFCproductions Maybe one day I'll get around to building that VIII then - my ancient Frog VIII could certainly use some company 😅 And while I agree with you that your blue seems a little too dark that is still a lovely looking Spit.
@thadrobinson83432 ай бұрын
You should give it a try! Many of the parts are extras and won't be used. The bits that look fiddly are so cleanly moulded and well-fitting that assembly goes very fast provided one uses good sprue nippers and fast liquid cement.

You can't go wrong with a Spit., looks great. Maybe it should have been a PRU blue, but i'm no expert so highly likely wrong.

Dark Med blue is definitely one of the choices - and it was quite dark. I'm not sure many, if any Spitfires on Malta were PRU blue.
