David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Friday, 19 July, 2024) Thanks for your personal overview, mate. Rather better this Airfix kit is than I would have expected, I must say. In your assessment, might I ask you, please, that you give us your comparison with the Tamiya 1:72nd-scale kit of de Havilland’s DH-98 Mosquito RAF Mk.VI Light Bomber/-Mk.II Photo-Reconnaissance aircraft, please? When you can, of course. I years past had assembled at least three of Tamiya’s 1:48nd-scale Mosquito kits, in various marks, and different manifestations. Decades prior, an older Airfix model--if memory serves; at one time, I had assembled round seventy model æroplanes, all in 1:72nd-scale. Round a dozen were British: the AVRO Lancaster; THE Handley-Page Halifax, and the Short Stirling RAF Heavy Bombers. I quite enjoyed the tow tractor with its train of laden bomb trolleys; they are why I had departed from my usual preference to configure them airborne in the assembly when I built the long æroplane aground, displaying it undergoing servicing prior to a nocturnal, secret sortie somewhere deep into Nazi-held Europe). I delighted in the legend in progress of the de Havilland Mosquito Light Bomber, long renowned as “the wooden wonder” racing across Germany’s skies regardless of the hour. and the Vickers Wellington Medium Bomber, known for its geodesic physical construction. The Supermarine Spitfire, the Hawker Hurricane, and the Typhoon Fighters (the last derived from the Tempest). Lastly, does your channel name mean “Captain, Victoria Flying Cross”?

@user-ni2zo5zo3c Hello, I made the 1/72 Tamiya Mosquito FB VI a few years ago and will look to feature a brief comparison in the build video. I also have the Tamiya 1/48 version still to build. My name is not related to medals, but that is a fantastic suggestion!

Mosquitoes were made of formed plywood not 'balsa'.
@truthhurts92415 күн бұрын
Balsa core, with "Duralumin" and marine ply skin. My Grandmother used to make parts for them. The wood was flammable, the glue was flammable and even worse, if things got hot enough, that "Duralumin" was seriously flammable. A bit like flying into battle in a Swan Vesta box of matches.

Remember invasion stripes were painted on in a hurry with men wearing there no1 uniforms using mops and brooms. No need to be too neat.
@Adam_Boots8 күн бұрын
I built mine in scheme A as I didn't want a Mosquito in US service. The 'blemish' you noticed on the decal for the tail was a deliberate choice by the designer as its location matches where the pitot tube is. I found I needed to touch up that area as well as the front where the two decals line up with a bit of red paint otherwise there would be a white line all the way down the front. The jig made drilling very easy. I had a bit more trouble with the hole on the side. It's the first kit I've painted with Invasion stripes and it wasn't as difficult as I expected. The smooth fuselage really helps when using masking tape. I did notice the kit uses the newer plastic while the original release had the older.

picked this kit up about a month ago, always wanted to add a 1/72 griffon spitfire to my collection, on the subject of high speed silver, xtracolour do an enamel version XO38, which I've used for some time, brushes on nicely right out of the tin, and really catches that "silver painted not metal" look!

@VFCproductions14 күн бұрын
@RobertSE6 I didn't use any. There were a couple of places it could have been used, but the result would barely be noticeable. The fit is so good that any minor gaps are covered by the paint

Can’t brush paint large surfaces for the life of me (only details) hence why I always airbrush majority of parts on a kit.

That's a fantastic what if. The model looks quite accurate shape-wise. I have this one in my stash to be built at a future time. Good work with the diorama too.
@fenrismodels23 күн бұрын
Looks absolutely phenomenal! I love what you did with this, it's great!!! The purple is a very nice touch, I love how you tied it to the portal with the missile. For the portal, perhaps the... uhh... grain of the cotton, for lack of a better term, can be tousled into a swirling pattern? I always think of swirling with time portals for some reason, so that might also just be me haha! But either way, this looks excellent, first diorama or fiftieth! (Oh, and the 4 bombs is clearly because he was sent back in time not to fully change the events of Pearl Harbor [after all, you can't mess with the past, right? That's how we get paradoxes] but it's because some rogue group *also* went into the past to try to change the events of the day, and he's there to damage key strategic assets of these shadowy time-ruffians. Future diorama idea?)

Very smart, nut as a USAAF machine, wouldn't it have had something like chrome yellow wings and olive drab or natural metal fuselage?
@VFCproductions23 күн бұрын
The other thing I was considering is indeed a yellow wing machine but by December 1941 these had gone. USAAF were drab over grey and USN was like this. I opted for the naval scheme as it felt more appropriate for the job.

It may not look promising on the sprue but It’s a really nice kit when you make it up. I have one made up and then two more in my stash. It’s my favourite version of the spitfire.

Ah smer?
@robertlockie7072Ай бұрын
To increase the mass of lead in the nose, you might try using powdered lead to reduce the incidence of voids. Apparently golfists use it for something or other (weighting their bats, I assume) but pouring in a quantity and adding PVA to fix it together might do the job.

I myself only got an airbrush last year, at the ripe old age of sixty five and I love it. My late mother in law was sat on a train at Waterloo station in 1944 and a flying bomb cut out as they were about to leave the station, the stoic Londoners tutted and looked at their watches. My mother in law who was from Lancashire and going to see her husband in the RAF was petrified, the bomb landed some distance away but she remembered it ever after. They were in my opinion the finest generation, bless them all.

I have seen a picture in wich they were painting Invasion stripes on a plane... they did it by hand and no masking... and the result was not neat at all.

Simple but well done! Great comments too. We should probably always take a moment to think about what these weapons of war were built for.

Ah yes, the "Revenge weapon no.1." I have to say I agree with you on the paint finish etc. built by starving Slave Labourers in caves who really couldn't give a monkey's about fit and finish. Did it feel just a little bit weird trying NOT to do a good spray job?
