When I was a teenager my best friend began developing at a really young age and I just remember that all throughout our adolescence it was always this thing people had to point out and say disgusting inappropriate things over. To this day it truly angers me. We were washing her car and this man in his 40s or 50s was walking by with 2 young boys and said "that's how they should be made" and I can't think of that without feeling So enraged. We looked at one another and my friend went off and said that wasn't right and that now these young boys would have it in their minds to view women this way and we were so upset we drove around trying to find this guy to tell him how wrong and messed up it was. I'm ranting now but yeah, we need people to understand the impact of this. And Chrissy Teigen saying it was her fantasy to see someone take a "dirt nap" is next level fucked up! Let alone an underage girl wtf 😳 I don't even have words.

Good for her. Courtney needs to get her toxic mother out of her life as well. Some things are just unforgivable and this is coming from a woman who spends every day with her mother and can’t imagine life without her. So I don’t say that lightly. I hope your sister has been able to heal. My grandma did the exact same thing with my mom after my grandpa left her and took off. Luckily for my mom the guy was only 21 and not a 50 year old man, but still!

When my daughter was a freshman (14) in high school a senior (18) asked her to prom. I was not having it for one second. At the time she totally thought I was overreacting and so did other people like mom's in my circle. My daughter is now 25 (her birthday was yesterday actually) and we had a talk about that not too long ago and she thanked me for protecting her and always protecting her. She said she was so young and naive and there is no telling what a large group of older guys and girls may have tried to peer pressured her into doing bc they did that to a friend of hers that was allowed to go. We have to be there to protect our kids, 10 years ago and today, our daughters and our sons.

When I was 18, I was dating a 30 year old man. While living with him, he hid my existence to go on a TLC special, GeekLove, a sci-fi speed dating show. He pretended to be single while I paid his rent and supported him, to go on this show and “look for love.” Besides being a victim of his con artistry, I was a victim of abuse by him and BARELY legal. This man victimized me, cheated on me, abused me, financially emotionally and physically. Now, I want the truth out. James (or JC) from TLCs GeekLove is a predator and a pathological liar.

This story reminds me of when I was in middle school, there was a girl in my 8th grade class who got pregnant by her mother's boyfriend. We all whispered about her for being pregnant at the time, and then my mom read about the father going to prison for statutory r@pe in the newspaper, and um... It only just occurred to me that 'duh, this poor child was groomed.' Like I knew it was bad, I knew the man who made her pregnant was a bad guy, but like, the "oh she was groomed" realization only just hit me. I remember the baby was born our freshman year of high school. She named the child after its father. In other news, this video was a _trip!_ Poor Courtney. 2011 _was_ a different time, it was okay to be disgusting to women and girls in a way that no one will openly now... but that doesn't justify any of the stuff that people did to Courtney or any of the other well-known women who were abused publicly back then.

I remember the rumors that Courtney was “really in her mid twenties” at the time. Claiming that couple were lying about Courtney’s about age for clout. Even at the time it felt like people were believing this rumor as a way to excuse this crap. Or even as a way to excuse their own attraction to her. Especially considering that the birth certificate and marriage certificates were public knowledge for both of them. One bright spot is that Courtney has already started using their past experiences and strength as a person to help others. Starting with the girl that Doug had begun grooming last year. Sending good thoughts to all the survivors that are stronger than they ever imagined. So proud of you all!

Right. People knew it was creepy that Courtney was married to Doug, and questioned their parents, but back then, everyone was so focused on making fun of Courtney and not questioning the actual predators involved (Doug + their parents). Misogyny was A LOT more rampant on the internet back then. That’s what people mean by “it was a different time”. Not excusable by any means, but the internet climate was a lot different and less socially aware.

I remember when this story came out and people didn’t just accept it or look the other way. People raised a LOT of ruckus because of this marriage but everyone including Cortney begged everyone to butt out. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still very much a victim, but what should we have done? Broken into their house and stolen them at 16? I honestly believe there’s only so much you can do sometimes. I’m so proud of them for coming out with their story now.

That is part of the grooming. It is not a sign of agency of the victim. It is true that helplesness after trying to point it out is a thing. But then giving up is still failing the victim. I am not saying that to invalidate the effort. But if the child stays in the hands of a monster, while they spout nonsense said monster imprinted them with, it is a failure. If it was a 12 or 14 year old it would be more obvious. But a 16 year old is also bad enough. Especially because it did not start at 16 but earlier. I hope I am making sense.

I think they must've kept the same law from decades ago, because it was similar with ages like this way back in history. Way back in history, young girls used to get married, or the parents would even choose who you'd marry, and it didn't matter your age. I've always been a little bit of a history buff. The age thing needs to change. They need to update to present times. None of these people should have any jobs after all of this. They should all be in jail for this.

I remember when this happened and I wasn't even living in an english speaking country and this still made it in the news. No one was ok with this, trust me. But Courtney herself, her husband, her parents kept insisting they are in love and they married so they could be together. And Courtney was heavily criticised by the media due to her over-sexualised look and what appeared to be fame chasing behaviour (which we can now attribute to the mother). Courtney was making music clips where she was heavily sexualised before her marriage to Doug. While married to Doug she even went on the british Big Brother. It's sad because you now realise she never truly had a childhood. She was pretty much pimped by her own mother.

this hits too close to home. when i was only 11 my mother would use my facebook to communicate with young men my age pretending to be me, forcing me into relationships and many uncomfortable situations until i was about 13-14 and she and my father divorced and she found a boyfriend of her own. she would try super hard to appeal to these men and it almost gave me the vibe she wanted them in a way. it got so bad to where one of my boyfriends mothers even insinuated that, and at the time i thought it was insane. but now i see why my mother reacted as strongly as she did to that accusation. because it was probably true. she’s long gone now, and i miss her in ways but this video kind of just made me remember the horrors she brought into my young life and mind. even making me insecure she was gonna sleep w my boyfriends bc she called me a prude at 12 for getting grossed out at my bf making a sexual joke towards me.

I have so many opinions here. My mom allowed me to "date" at 14, he was 21!! At first we told her he was 18. That was okay. Then she finds out that he's 21 & we're having sex. She simply takes me & has me put on birth control. My mother never tried to stop any of it. As a mom now, of 19f, 11m, & 8f, I cannot fathom!! I just cannot understand why my mother allowed this. This grown man got me drunk & sexually assaulted me at 14. My mother said "that I just didn't understand men." As a 38 year old mother & wife I honestly have no idea how I have become a mentally healthy adult. It took some trial & error in my early adult life BUT my oldest, I had at 19, NEVER paid the price for those. She always came first. Her health & wellbeing always came first!! The parents are to blame in Courtney's situation!! Her mother who nursed the relationship & her father who stood by idoly. It is absolutely disgusting how far this went!! From 21-26 I was in a relationship and even engaged to someone 19 years older than me. I didn’t think a lot of it until much later, when he was still dating younger women. There’s still so much I don’t understand about that time, and about him, really. I won’t say that relationships with a large age gap can’t work, but I think the younger person ought to at least be old enough and have enough experience with relationships to be able to see the relationship clearly. At 16 - no. How is marriage even legal at 16?!? As for their relationship… why would he even want to marry her that young? At least my ex, after already having been married, wanted to wait until I was at least 25. I was the one who wanted to get married! What is wrong with this Doug guy that he couldn’t even just date her for a few years? Or better yet, say “I like you, but I can’t date you. Let’s see where we are at in 2-3 years.” Ugg.

This is so disturbing and sad. I'm glad Courtney is on their healing journey, but, the fact that this even happened is so alarming. What Chrissy did was ATROCIOUS. I just hope that's not the only thing people focus on because there is ALOT to unpack here. I agree, "it was 2011" is not an excuse. My personal opinion as to why people (specifically those who were adults during that time)are using it is BECAUSE they knew better, but, turned a blind eye to it. Or worse, laughed along. They were part of the majority, which didn't speak out against things of this nature in or prior to 2011. Now things are starting to shift, and, the majority is sheading light on how truly disgusting this is/was. I just hope it it makes the intended inpact on society. I know someone mentioned it, but, there are laws that need to be changed in most states. I really hope we make our way towards inacting that change because NO CHILD should go through this. Also, I had no idea about the show Courtney was on with their mom, but, those clips ALONE clarified a quite a bit. This is so sad, and, ALL of the adults involved should be reprimanded for this bs because WTF Sending Courtney all the positive vibes. I hope after all of this is said and done they find peace 💖🙏🏽

That the girl can get married at 16, but the boy has to wait until he's 17? That's sexist. Why isn't the age the same for both men and women?
