I got hit with this recently, had a brain fart during an interview when someone asked if I was versed in serverless. I had a moment of .. 'there isn't such a thing as serverless, there are always servers' Didn't get the job, and I think it's because it's not SaaS or PaaS anymore. I thought they meant running a website off one of those google spreadsheet things (which I think counts?)
@lgroschiensalle
@lgroschiensalle Жыл бұрын
@@nyny Lol. It's like "wireless". There's no such thing as "wireless". There's ALWAYS a wire, it's just implemented by software using complex digital signals processing, or some other method. The kernel doesn't care if there's actually a physical 1/8'' jack inserted into one of those little holes or if your "VIRTUALBOX" is cleverly mimicking a "Sound Blaster". Try telling a boomer that his laptop technically isn't really "wireless", he'll think you just dropped acid or something... Don't feel bad, you probably don't want to work for yuppies who use terms like "serverless" (who probably don't even know what a server even is to begin with :O) anyway; much less, yuppies who make important hiring decisions based on whether candidates know what such an esoteric/internal term means. One guy asked me once what PCMCIA stood for. I replied: "People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms". The truth is, I actually forgot what the last letters "C.I.A." stood for (cause I never really used one of those thing-a-ma-jiggers anyway), but I did remember the much better (and funnier) acronym! Peace, and 10-4 good buddy! Plenty o' work out there for a man willing to roll up his sleeves. You'll find something even better, I'm certain, I made special request to The Lord, in Jesus name :P In Christ Jesus. Amen.

@@limbo3545 "serverless" sounds like "perverseness" to me. That loaded language sounds awfully familiar! Those empty, meaningless, buzzwords that the "progressive" developers somehow keep mass producing and whom can't even describe, nor can they even decide just what exactly their slimeware even is or does, then finally settle on calling it a "Workplace Innovation Platform" that is so "serverless", that it runs in a "Cloud"! (AKA: someone else's computer) Filemaker, MS Access, and *anything* with the word "Adobe" in its name (there are too many other gorgons to also list), they seem to fit the usual suspect profile, and are well known to adore smearing their logo-feces upon their hyped-up, mass-marketed, crap-ware straight from the pits of hell and that continue to infest computer systems to this very day, relentlessly, since the early 1980s... Oh the humanity! (Okay, rant over... Where's RMS when you need him?)
