Carrot cake is made with shredded daikon/white long radish that looks like carrot in shape, mixed with rice flour, fried with scrambled eggs n add chopped salted brown daikon bits that gives it a salty bite. Sweet sauce n plain white. Goes well with chilli sauce for extra kick. If that helps.

Those radish shredded , mashed and mix with a portion of flour. Then put to steam before having them fried as shown in your video. The dark carrot cake is fried in dark soy sauce and sweet sauce which is main contributor towards the taste.

I'm quite surprise you didn't see any crocodiles. I always see them every time I was there a few years back, but never otters. Well they are wild, so I guess they move around. "Carrot cake" is actually radish cake. In Mandarin, radish is also called white carrot.

There are few families of otter in Singapore. High chance you can spot them along Singapore River, Marina Bay or Gardens by the Bay.

The lizard which you guys saw is a Monitor Lizard. We also call them 4 Legged snake in Chinese. 四脚蛇 The carrot cake is not really a carrot cake. The white pancake lookalike is glutinous rice flour "cake" that's made from a white radish (or yam if it's yam cake) cut into cubes, wok or pan fried till crispy, then cooked into an egg omelette.

My favourite spot in Sungei Buloh is actually that little lake/pond you passed through at 14:51, because I'm not sure if you noticed, but there were these little, pink, bubbly clusters all up the sides of the wood of the walkway and on some of the stumps in the pond itself. Those in fact huge clusters of Apple Snail eggs, and they look so wild and weirdly refreshing (although it may just be because its so hot everywhere that snail eggs suddenly look cool and delicious and yummy-tasting)! I love those little clusters of eggs, not sure why, but I think because they are so colourful and bright against the more jungle-y and woody colours of the wetlands.

A word of caution when u visit nature parks in Sg. Do not feed any wild life. Monkeys can be aggressive to snatch fruits & food u carry in plastic bags. So do keep a distance from them.

Looked like you guys visited in July / August (SG flag displayed at hawker center entrance, which was during National Day month) and that was not the migratory bird season yet. If you guys visited about 2 months later for birds, it would have been good. Yes there are salt water / estuarine crocodiles in Sugei Buloh, and the "bark" you hear was from a frog! yes do be aware, lucy the crcodile which is 2m long actually is quite active on the footpath , sometimes she is hiding just at the fences. Local carrot cake is actually made from radish and flour, the name is directly translate from chinese wordings which means white carrot.

Singapore isn’t just about chopsticks. 😌There’re cutlery and napkins too. There are crocodiles and monitor lizards. Sometimes they lie across the paths sunbathing. Sea crocodiles. It depends on the time of the day too. The barking sound is most probably the jungle fowls.

There is indeed an occasional crocodile which swim across and so the warning is to keep clear from the coastal area. They love to busk on the stretch of sand and wait for their preys.

Yes the crocodiles are real for sure at Sungei Buloh and can be seen quite frequently. But most of the time they're lying low and it's usually easier to spot them when there are more visitors (more eyes). You're not gonna get many visitors during the rainy season unfortunately. Otters can be seen in several areas even in rivers around city centre. I don't think the sounds you recorded were otter sounds. They usually squeal and squeak. These sound a bit more like waterhens or probably some other kind of bird. Great idea to explore our nature parks though! We do have pretty good wildlife diversity, contrary to what most city-dwellers or tourists think!

The otters actually make chirping noise like a bird or like a whistle... I saw a couple of them swimming in the water way in the city... I first notice the chirping noise they are making... could easily mistake it for a bird, but when I look in the water way... they are there hunting for fish. The barking noise most likely from a dog either a pet dog someone brought for a walk or a stray dog.

Speaking for myself, I find that when I'm desperately looking for something, I will never find them, and when I'm not, they will just appear out of the blue, from nowhere! Have you thought the otters and crocodiles might be hiding from you guys just because they know you are desperately looking for them?😂😂😂. Btw, you probably won't see otters in wetlands because the waters are not that clean. Have you tried the Singapore river where they had frequently been sighted? But again, don't try too hard! Lol. You both are a lovely couple, which makes your videos fun to watch, and your wanting to explore deeper into a country other than the regular touristy sights is commendable.

Rainy season here can't really see all those wildlife at one time. Sometimes they appear early morning or evenings. But water monitor lizards are common. Crocs and otters are seasonal or certain time of the day thing. Migratory birds are seasonal too. Monkeys sightings can be due to time of the day needs

Croc is best seen during low tide. There is one lone otter swimming around. Better place to see them is at marina Bay Area or bishan-amk park. For birds go during the migratory month from Sep-Dec. Barking call is likely from a frog. Good video!

This comment is late, but since you visit both malaysia and singapore, let me introducte you to selatar airport, the lesser known airport in singapore. there is only one flight route currently from seletar airport singapore to subang airport, KL Malaysia. while it is nothing compared to the bigger and more famous changi airport, it is a quiet place, less crowd and might provide a unique experience. it is also faster overall to KL, you only need to reach the airport an hour early compared to changi which usually ask you to reach earlier. subang airport is also closer to KL city center, so travel time is shorter compared to travelling from KLIA. just an alternative if you return back to singapore and malaysia for future videos

Otters will not frequent nor habitat a place if they are lower on the food chain. Otters should be found on a larger/deeper body of water where they are top of the food chain where fish is plentiful and hunting in a pack is also an otter thing. Otters made high pitch squeaky sounds and are sometimes wasteful eaters where they just bite off or eat only the fish head.

No crocs? That's a shame, been there 3 or 4 times, always saw a couple of crocs. Usually, it attracts a group of people looking at it, I spot the group of people, not the croc. Those monitor lizards are absolutely everywhere!!! Otters are more commonly seen in MBS area or Jurong Lake area. Don't think the otters want to mess around in an area where there are crocs...

These crocodiles found in Singapore are Estuarine Crocodiles, also known as saltwater crocodiles and usually inhabit brackish and freshwater areas such as coastal areas and wetlands. Survey said that about 20 such crocodiles 🐊 inhabit Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve.

Yes, there are crocodiles. The last time I went, that was many years ago, I spotted 1 resting at the place 11.55 of this video and another one in the water at one of the shelters. When my 2 daughters saw the crocodie at the place 11.55 of this video, they freaked out and told me to bring them out of the park. They never wanted to come to this park again. 😂 As for otters, I saw a family of about 9 at Sengkang Riverside Park. And another time along the Kallang River near to Garden's By the Bay Cloud Forest. The family was having fun by the river side and many stopped to look and took videos. And another time, I saw them on Kallang River too when paddling a boat with my son. By the way, in the vicinity, not too far from the entrance of Sungei Buloh is a Goat Farm - Hay Diaries. The goats are milked in the morning and you can buy chilled bottled goat milk. And in the vicinity are the Kranji Farms and 1 of them was the Jurong Frog Farm where there are many farmed bull frogs. These bull frogs are sold to restaurants or hawker stalls which sell frog leg porridge, or claypot frog legs. My daughters bought bull frog tadpoles which were great in my aquarium as they ate up the algae, but later,, they grew to become huge bull frogs which freaked me. But I was the main care giver for the frogs for many years. There are also fish farms and vegetable farms. Once a month, there's a farmer's market where one can buy farm produce..

@@TalesFromOurPocket More like small nibble on the tail, these otters are quite territorial even more so if they have small pups within the group. There are news reports of them attacking a guy (Graham George Spencer) at botanical garden that was mistaken as the offender when a runner ran really close to them possibly kicking one of the pups, and the poor mistaken guy was bitten all over his legs and buttocks. That is why there are signs to watch the otters at a distance if the place is where the otters frequently show up.

yeah, some otter family made the Botanic Gardens their home base and the ponds there became their training ground for their babies to teach the kiddies how to hunt. Otter families travel around Singapore via the connected waterways and can be spotted at parks near these waterways, with otters even making their ways into private estates and condominiums cos there are coi ponds there 😂 😂

I see crocodile almost everytime time I visit, usually they are in the water or near the path when you do the circuit. Turn left after crossing the bridge and walk about 100 to 300 meters, but you have to be sharp eyed to see them. As for the otter, I see them before entering the park in the pond, of course they move around so they are unlikely to be always there. I even see small baby snakes and very huge Monitor Lizard occasionally. If you see archer fish, put some twigs protruding from the edge of where you are standing and you see them spitting at the twigs (thinking they are food)

At Sungei Buloh, the wild monkeys move around in groups. The leader of the group, who is usually the most senior and bigger sized, watch over the whole group and protects the young and the females from predatory crocodiles. They are very alert and once they spot a croc, the monkeys will start 'shrieking' to warn the rest to keep away from the shore and lower ground.....when you hear this 'monkey warning cries', you'll know that a croc is nearby

It is a reserve..not a zoo.. those otters and crocs will not be parked waiting for you to just walk up to them and photograph them. Those guys roam around so its really up to chance.

Hawker centres or food courts won’t give you any napkins. Those are low cost cheap food, napkins are not provided. But restaurants, fast food joints, even ice cream kiosks provide napkins. It’s not that there are no napkins in Singapore 😂

Sungei Buloh's my favourite nature reserve is Singapore. I go there mainly to photograph the birds. But I'll capture whatever wildlife appears. Believe it or not, I've shot (camera-wise of course 😆) crocs on quite a few of my trips there! That's the challenge of shooting in the wild! It's just like going hunting for game in the States. You've good days and you've bad. But just being surrounded by nature (especially so preciously rare in Singapore!) makes it all worth it! 😄
