My problem with shaved engine bays is people get them done, and then when they come to my shop we have to redrill holes into freshly painted stuff. Also, whenever people already have the car together and they have a wiring issue, you have to see the absolute shit job of a wire tuck that was done and then nobody wants to pay the extra money to have it done right, that’s the biggest issue, lets shave the engine bay and then now want to pay the extra money to have things remounted correctly.

Yup, thats why I say you have to think it through on the front end.

I won't do a smooth engine bay or a wire tuck I want to keep everything just the way it was from the factory so if I want to do mods I can do them with ease

Good video. I certainly appreciate the time, effort and aesthetics required to obtain a "correct" shaved bay, I still prefer the patina of a nice, clean bone stock bay!

Man I can agree with you on this list. I finished my engine bay 12 years ago. It was probably about 6 years ago now I noticed the paint bubbling in quite a few of the corners in there. That heat just did a number on it. But I still think it was worth it in the end. I can still pop the hood and draw a crowd to it.

I have an engine bay that is clean enough that you could eat off. My buddy who is a meticulous custom car painter helped redo my engine. Everything Caleb says is 100% correct. It is alot of work to get an engine bay to the point where it is perfect. Then you have to keep it that way

I love the shaved LOOK. But I love the stock FUNCTIONALITY. My car will always be a driver and not strictly a show car so for me probably not worth the effort. But I do appreciate the work it takes.

Don't forget to mention the joy of tucking 20+ year old wires and then suddenly....your cooling fan won't come on 😩 And putting the fender liners back on. 🤬

I'm not trying to make a car that I don't want to work on. Routine jobs would turn into a nightmare. I do like some of the sheet metal kits that clean up the engine bay a bit. I'm not relocating anything though.

My only problem with engine bays is the extra holes not used but made from factory (no matter the Company) that are left behind. Other than that, to each his own.

The only holes i filled on my car were installed by previous owners, i left all the ones installed by ford. When i was looking for a roller to build 10+ years there were a good number of half done projects in with smoothed or smooth in progress. As soon as i saw a non stock engine bay i skip to the next car, i don't want your head ache and bad decisions, i can create my own.

No doubt to everyone, You do your own thing, but shaved engine bays are a waste of time and money. The hoods not meant to be up while you're driving it. I'm not hating on it at all, it just does absolutely nothing of value.

I never wanted a shaved engine compartment. People always give me heck about why I painted my engine bays plain black. All my vehicles have plain engine bays. To me, it's not worth all the effort to keep them nice. I don't know anyone besides myself that has vehicles that were built over 20 years ago, and still have them, along with them look the same as they did when built. When I go to shows, people act like I just built my vehicles. Nope, I built the last one over 20 years ago. I keep them clean and don't really drive them. People ask why I have them if I'm not going to drive them. Well, I didn't build them for others, I built them for myself and I enjoy them just looking at them. Show cars that have all that chrome is only going to be nice for so long. People spend tons of money for things that won't look the same for long. I've always told myself there's no point in wasting money on look good when you can spend it on gogo parts.

Whilst it looks nice, it's gonna be a maintenance whore and only do it yer up for that 😏. I saw CJ Pony Parts has a steel hood, that is louvered on each side towards the back, to let some under hood hot air out vs the fiberglass one with a raised hood cowl. Anybody have experience with the CJ hood I mentioned ? Good or Bad.
