if you’ll do a solo trip to the Philippines, the best place to go would be at the beaches where the people are the most friendliest and easy to vibe with, as a solo traveller I would recommend going to siargao or el nido where the beaches and the people are the best where you could just vibe with everyone you’ll meet!

Ehhh, I wouldn't really recommend Manila as someone's first solo trip in the country especially if that someone lives in an urban environment Yes, there are certainly attractions and sites in Metro Manila where you can find Cultural heritages, foods, and whatnot, but other than that, you really wouldn't experience what it is truly like in the Philippines (without the monstrous weather of course) if you were to only visit the capital I would much more recommend leaving the capital afterwards and visiting the other provinces

The foreign media tells a LOT of truth. I lived in the Philippines for 16 years before moving back to America. I have a Filipino wife and kids. The Philippines has some good things going for it - any place can look good from a tourist prospective. But the Philippines has a LOT, and I mean A LOT, of problems. Serious problems. Health care, education, corruption, so many issues. These types of videos never show the bad things - and in Manila there is poverty and filth that is almost hard to describe. Trust me, it is NOT paradise in 99% of the country.

9:10 Manila city “proper” refers to the City of Manila itself, which is the capital of the Philippines. That is to differentiate it from Metropolitan Manila (also called Metro Manila or the National Capital Region) which is composed of 16 highly urbanized cities and 1 municipality including “Manila proper”. Many people are confused between the City of Manila and Metro Manila.
@asyongmatipid2
@asyongmatipid2 Жыл бұрын
In N. America they use the word "greater" to refer to major metropolitan areas like Greater Toronto Area or GTA for short, Greater Los Angeles etc. I fondly remember that GMA or Greater Manila Area was once the more common term used by Filipinos but at some point it was supplanted by Metro Manila. I'm not sure how accurate the info is but yesterday I found out thru Wikipedia that the term GMA also included urbanized parts of Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal & Laguna provinces so I guess a lot of locals like myself had this common misconception all through these years that GMA and Metro Manila were one and the same but as it turns out the latter is only a subset of the much bigger GMA.

And the same area can be called the "Galveston-Houston Region" as well, which includes nine counties surrounding Houston.

Hey Boys! So good to see you in Manila a place I had a lot of fun in the late 70s/early 80s. I'm afraid that through a friend I became friends with Imelda Marcos - back in those days,we didn't know what we know now. Though aware of rumours and never having met anyone who had rescipts,we just went on what we saw. So when I was there,unless we chose to do what you Boys were doing, life was our own chauffeured "air-conditioned" car,amazing parties,nightlife and luxury. Imelda was a amazing hostess & used to sing after dinner! Never got to see the shoes! One of the most memorable trips was to the First Manila International Film Festival in the just finished Manila Film Centre,which was the fist time we heard stories,like the terrible incident in 1981 when 169 men lost their lives in the rush to finish the work! I did empathise with you both over the heat,there never seemed to be a time when it wasn't either hot heat or humid heat,the people were awesome & I have wonderful Flipino friends around the work. The disorienting feeling I know as well,having spent a lot of time in Colombian,Cuba & Mexico,as well as African countries it was like an acid trip,seeing all the different styles of architecture - from Churches & Palaces to areas that were obviously very poor. I'm really looking forward to your next,because apart from helicopters/bougie boats to amazing beach/mountain homes I have never explored on my own. The beaches are incredible among some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Lastly,thank you so much fir talking about sweating,it's something we all do; obviously some more than others,but,its never addressed in movies/media as anything,but negative. I thought you both looked great,even if you were literally glowing with the heat. As always,your vid has cheered up a rainy grey day in London,so very best wishes to you& yours👏👏👏💙💙👌❤️💯💥👊👋⭐️'s💯

For new info: All the Marcoses' cases of alleged I'll gotten wealth are now all rejected due to lack of evidence, and all considered just hearsay. During Marcos Sr. era the Philippines was only second to Japan in terms of developments, and even was looked up to then by Singapore and most Asian nations.. until the Aquino's DILAWAN POLITICAL PARTY grabbed power, then Philippines dove down to it's lowest stature and people were mostly disregarded, and the country became poor and were in a sad state for more than three decades. But the people has finally awakened, and gave Marcos Jr. an overwhelming landslide victory of 31M as against the Aquino's standard bearer of only 14M. Now that another Marcos is the country's president, expect the Philippines to fly high again. And about Imelda's famous shoes? Those were actually gifts from the Makati shoe industry which promoted Philippine products and made Imelda endorser when she used them in her official travels abroad.. which the DILAWANS made it as part of their alleged corruption, which the world then believed.. to the Aquino's and DILAWANS satisfaction.

Interesting video. Thanks. I am currently planning to visit Manila in around 6 or 7 months, so this video is of particular interest to me. However when I go I will have the advantage of staying full time with a very close and dear friend who is a native born Filipino living in Makati City. Your video verifies much of what he's told me and what I've learned elsewhere regarding the Philippines and Manila in particular. One of those things is DON'T DRIVE! Use Grab! My friend doesn't even attempt to drive there himself. Secondly, unemployment in Philippines is incredibly high and nearly 10% of Filipinos have in the past or currently work abroad - often in the US or Japan - because of this. Third, Filipinos are among the most friendly and cordial people to be found anywhere in the world. I can vouch for this from my experiences with my friend, his family and a few other Filipinos I've gotten to know. Fourth, It's HOT and HUMID; to be expected in a tropical climate and a city around 14º north of the equator. Fortunately we plan to stay at a very nice Hotel, Okada Manila, which appears to be a more magnificent than any hotel I've ever even been in. My friend raves about it. I'm looking forward to my trip and staying with my friend. Thanks again.

@11:31 those folks you saw milling around on the sidewalk are most likely seafarers/crewmen waiting either for their next deployment or initial interview from a number of ship manning agencies nearby. Most of them are already veterans of the trade and/or just coming off a sabbatical. Some of them have worked on Danish or Norwegian ships. I have 5 cousins who used to work as crewmembers and they were able to support their families back home, buy a house without mortgage etc. In fact the Philippines is the largest supplier of seamen in the world. These folks like to congregate in that area to swap salary offers from different agencies, swap stories etc. while waiting to be called in. It's not that there are no jobs in our country it's just that due to our ability to speak English our workforce is a lot more mobile compared to our neighbors. It's very rare for a Filipino to land a job overseas without having local experience of at least 2-3 years so that means most of them had jobs in the first place before they left. They're no different than Germans moving to Switzerland for better pay even though there's more jobs in Germany.

The place where you saw many people that looked like a job fair is where people looking for jobs in the maritime industry usually stay. I lived around that area before, and it's always packed on weekdays. I was so surprised to see you walk through the street I used to walk through every day. Glad you had a nice time in Manila.

Manila is definitely an acquired taste. You’ve made a good start. Keep coming back. I’ve been doing it for more than thirty years and ain’t done yet. Yes, heat can be a killer for the aspiring connoisseur. You didn’t mention the second killer: traffic. Get past these-and your heart is ready for love.

Good job discovering some of the best in Metro Manila, the Philippines capital region made up of many cities and towns. Manila itself is the capital. Makati is what upscale Manhattan is to NYC. There are other great experiences in the other cities and towns in the metropolitan area. Next time you visit, consider adding them to your itinerary. BTW, if you want to avoid too much heat, consider December, January, and February. Tropical heat starts in March and can start to cool down around November.

What makes Manila soooo dense is that there are many people even from other metropolises (like Cebu, CDO, Davao) and far-flung areas that go there to work-and I'm one of them. Opportunities for them near their homes are scarce-even many of the entry-level jobs in the said metropolises ridiculously require years of work experience.

So happy you were able to visit Good Food Sundays! Wish you can come back in November for VegFest Pilipinas (happening in Manila). That's going to be a lot of vegan food and drinks! Yes, there will be a lot of merchants that are not that cheap but that's the reality of small business pricing in Manila. We try to price the products as affordable as possible but we also want to pay our staff fair wages. Glad you were able to enjoy your short stay in Manila!

I hope you'll keep on visiting our country. One tip though, when traveling around our country, it's better if you wear cotton fabric clothes, because it's hot and humid. If you like to walk around the city, it's good to come here during months of December to early February when it's not that hot. Hehe! If you like to go somewhere where it's a bit colder, you can visit Tagaytay, Baguio or Sagada. Stay safe and healthy, guys.
