When you stepped from Canada to Alaska, I actually got tears in my eyes. I am so happy for you guys that you are able to make this dream trip that you have worked so hard for. As far as Trinity getting sick on your bedding, we too have had our dog get sick on our bedding while we were camping. Laundromats are no fun, especially when it intrudes on your travel.

Every so often ... there is a moment in a video ... where something happens ... and Joseph has these looks on his face ...towards YOU! Kalyn... and we all get to see ... that he ... just ... absolutely ... adores you Kalyn. So happy for both of you! Living your Dream & the love really shines through!
@OpenRoading6 ай бұрын
She gives me those looks too. 😉 It's funny because the first example that always pops in my head of those "looks" is in one of our videos. If you watch the beet harvest video where I'm struggling to fix my truck there is a spot where she says "I thought cutting the line was the stupid part." So many people missed what really happened in that moment. I was stressed. I was tired. I was anxious. Kalyn knew (intuitively) that what I needed most was a moment to laugh...a moment of putting life in perspective....and she nailed it. Probably not the best line for every guy out there in that moment...but she just knows me perfectly. The looks I give are just me knowing that I totally married a woman out of my league. -J

I love watching you guys! I'm especially interested in your Alaskan Adventure as I am an ex-Alaskan (30 years). I left 20 years ago and it is amazing at how much has changed. I laugh every time I see the sign post forest near Watson Lake. We first drove the Alcan in 1973 and the "sign post forest" was 4 poles on the side of the road with a few license plates on it. I used to have a photo of it but it got lost somewhere over the years. Can't wait to see what is next in your adventure! Stay safe and have a blast!

Even though we were driving the speed limit and maybe five over, the RVs that passed us, some flying, and no exaggeration. you could actually see their tires come off the ground. Watson Lake store was out of a lot of essentials like milk when we were there. Apparently they said they only got deliveries about once a week at that time.
@OpenRoading6 ай бұрын
Oh wow! Yeah, we were just talking about portion sizes at restaurants and stuff up here and we ended up chalking it up to the fact that except for fish they probably only get deliveries once a week or so and they have to make everything last as long as possible.

Um...well THOSE were words I hadn't expected to hear! Guessing I won't be the only one waiting on the next video! And it appears you were right, more issues getting back into the US lol Much ❤

I drove the Alcan in 1982 and it was all gravel and dirt except for about 30 or so miles around Whitehorse. Oddly enough I never got a chipped windshield nor a flat, though I picked up a hitchhikers rolling multiple flats a couple of times, one was from about 30 miles from where I live in south Georgia.

Thanks so much! Yeah, we crossed over on June 17th. Crazy that it's almost a full month behind real time now but we've shot so much video on this trip! It's a good problem to have. It's just earbuds in my ear. I listen to a couple podcasts in the morning and sometimes I forget to take the earbud out before we film. 😂 -J

I get the 4 day setup/take down rush! When I'm doing my long motorcycle trips I'd try to save money camping instead of a hotel, but I found I lost a LOT of time setting up and tearing down camp if I'm sandwiched between travel days. So if I'm doing that usually I'll find a hotel, because I think I lose 1 to 2 hours at night and again in the morning just because I camped instead of like, 20 minutes in a hotel.....but I pay for it lol.

1000% I haven't done a big motorcycle trip yet but it's on my bucket list! I want to do both styles (hotel and camping). -J

Most people know the town of Gander Newfoundland that took most of the Air Traffic headed from Europe to the U.S. during 9/11, ,but most people don't know that Whitehorse took the Asia to Alaska on 9/11. There were a couple of 747 that landed and being a smaller regional airport, it wasn't designed for such large planes and probably the only since that have landed there.

As I'm sure you learned, you can't get lost in the sign forest. About 2 blocks away from there is a nice lake we walked around when we were there for exercise. Alaska roads will get worse and your construction delays will be a real thing. But you will enjoy it. Have fun.
@OpenRoading6 ай бұрын
So far we've only hit one long delay where a road was getting washed out (somewhere around Chickaloon.) It was a pilot car situation and we ended up waiting for 2 long cycles. But the nice thing is, since the sun "doesn't set" if it delays us a bit it's not too big of a deal. -J

@@OpenRoading That is a good thing, but it will get worse. You do have the proper attitude though. Enjoy the rest of your time up there. I do enjoy your adventures.

One Canadian snack you should try if you can find it is a Nanaimo Bar. You won't find it commercial packaging, just have to check deli's or refrigerator's in gas stations marts.
