I got in a losing fight with a 2 star berserker when the "You're being hunted" popped up. The wolves all showed up and fought with the berserker for the whole event while i hid on the rock. At the end i finished off the berserker with a couple arrows, gathered the like 40+ wolf pelts and carried on... most memorable thing to happen in the game so far.

I have had the troll event happen in the swamp and both trolls were the ones with the tree clubs... They killed my first abomination for me tag teaming the thing (also with a little help from a fire plume nearby). That was one of my favorite moments in valheim.

I've played games my entire life, sunk so many hours into every game. I bought rust in April of last year, found modded servers, blank my eyes and whoosh, 2700 hours went by. I still don't know jack shit. The hubris it takes to think you can't learn more or tweak better lol. I got 600 hours in valheim and just saw a video where I learned shit I should've figured out day 1 lmao! Wild

She can't even speak properly and naming mobs by their wrong name, unless you are as brain dead as the OP then this comment must be satire
@JimmyLongboat2 жыл бұрын
On my server I've set up an "AFK" zone that has just a portal and a chair out up a tree in the Meadows (the chair isn't even necessary, but might as well make your character comfy whilst you're off galivanting away from your desk). This ensures it's below the 3 base item requirement, wondering mobs (including those that spawn at night) can't reach you while you're in in the tree, and that pesky wolf event can't occur as it's not in the correct biome. Highly recommended when playing on a multiplayer server where you can't actually pause the game.
@Dale_Nightking Жыл бұрын
I’m 6 months late but how exactly can you achieve this? Do you build up and sit on top of the tree and then destroy the way up? A buddy and I had the problem where I had to do something but he was already gone so I had to wait impatiently for him to get back just so in case a raid spawned, one of us could defend ourselves
@JimmyLongboat Жыл бұрын
@@Dale_Nightking Now when I wrote that this was before I had defeated the Queen and caused Seekers to spawn at night regardless of the biome you are in so there are a few extra steps to be safe from even those flying fuckers but still entirely doable. I typically try to find an isolated Oak tree then build up (using the tree as the foundation itself to build up from, provided you don't knock this down then you're golden). I do this in the meadows as it's the safest mob wise and you'll never proc the raid that can happen wherever you are being the annoying wolf one. Try to stick to one workbench throughout too, as one troll raid could fuck everything up for you. Once you've gotten to the top and make a platform, pop a portal down and destroy anything leading up to the top so the mobs can't pathfind their way up to you when they inevitably aggro onto you from beneath. This part avoids annoying greydwarves during the day and much more harmful goblins at night. Now seekers are the only real threat at this point (if you've defeated The Queen) so essentially you're gonna want to wall this off and roof it. Provided they can't see you - they won't fly up to you. And they won't destroy your creations unless they KNOW you're behind it but if you're just coming to this area to go AFK they shouldn't be a threat. At this point you should still be safe from raids as you'll have only two base items, being your workbench and portal. Once you've done with your platform, wall, roof, and any decoration that doesn't include base items you can even destroy the workbench and add a chair if you so wanted (though if you want to remain practical then keep the workbench and don't add a chair). Provided you stay below three "base items" then you won't get raided. Another way to be safe from raids is to be surrounded by water. Though it is much more resource and time consuming, I've made a house in the middle of a large lake and as mobs cannot spawn in water any raid that occurs just ends after it's set time limit without anything spawning throughout it's duration.
@themorosov710 ай бұрын
One safe place where no mobs are spawning are sunken crypts (on swamps) that you have already cleared

@Darkkfated2 жыл бұрын
As counter-intuitive as it sounds, backing yourself into a dead-end of some sort during the Wolf Raid is actually one of the safest ways of dealing with it, since they're forced to run at you from only one direction. As such, you can hit them as they run up, often stunning them in the process. Wolves may not be weak to any damage types, but they have a tiny-ass little stagger bar, and any solid hit that doesn't kill them outright will leave them stunned and helpless for 4-5 seconds. Putting your back to the wall and swinging away is the way to go here if you can find a piece of terrain that allows for it.
@marky0462 жыл бұрын
Little tip if a timed raid catches you off-guard and you dont have the resources to take them on. Just kite the enemies around for the duration and only start attacking them once the raid is over. That way enemies won't respawn and you won't have to waste materials.

good advice if you want to make an impenetrable base. 1 build a castle out of stone and make sure you make it high enough that you can shoot from far enough away that the enemies can't break the gates/walls trying to hit you. 2 dig a moat, leave only the access route at the gates where it is easy to concentrate the defense. 3 if you have progressed to mistland, you can build an automatic ballista that shoots enemies

Ah, that Trollina scene...that was epic. 🤣 And a very good explanation of raids. I have some things to add though, from my own experience. Most of the creatures involved in the raids do not spawn over water. This makes tiny islands ideal for base locations, if you don't want to bother with the events. The events still will occur, but no spawns. Bats however, DO spawn over water, or probably over tiny shallow water spots which LOOK like water, but technically are land - I don't know. I have a very cozy island base and at this time I have to deal with only bats there. And, of course, you can block event (and all other) spawning with crafting benches, fires etc. This works even against bats, but you have to block spawning in the whole 42 meter radius circle. Just a tiny-tiny unblocked spot, and surpriiise!

I just started Velheim a few days ago. I never got Elkthyr's raid, but comparing it to the second one with the Greys, that's quite the spike in difficulty for a new player. From 2 boars and necks, to 12 Greys, 2 of them being variants I never seen before. I learned Shaman not only poisons, but heals it's allies, and the brute that one shot me when I walked out my door lmao. But I didn't know about a timer, and enemies respawn when killed within timer. Nor did I think they would despawn. So I just assumed I had to fight them off until none were left standing. What good that did me. I tried running away, but I didn't think they would follow me to the ends of the earth. I learned some new stuff thanks to this video. Stay within radius to have timer tick down, and don't really try fighting them until raid ends, and some despawn. Got it haha

I made a massive breeding area for my 1 star boars, like 25ish of them, each i gave cute names like "Bakonbitz", "Lardon", "Porkchop", "Hamboi", "Snouty", but i foolishly only made their enclosure out of fence gates, and got a troll invasion. They all tried their best to fight off the trolls but were killed before I could do anything. I ended up gathering all the meat and leather scraps, putting it in a karve and taking it out to the ocean where I shot at it with fire arrows until the boat was destroyed. Rip to the Pigboys They deserved so much better

Great review, but something to note about the AI of enemies that's really important in regards to raids is their priority of targets. The player is prioritized first and foremost. If enemies cannot get to the player, then they will prioritize any and all base structure pieces near them until they can reach a player again, and they will destroy any building pieces in their way of whatever it is they're targeting. For this reason, it's important not to die during a raid as even while you're waiting for the death window to play out, the raiders will automatically target your building pieces if there's no other players nearby for them to attack.

Outstanding guide! Idk if you'll ever due the a Mistlands expansion to this, but this guide taught me a lot about raids! I knew about time and boss dependent raids, but I had no idea killing certain enemies could initiate a raid event as well! Moral of the story I'm getting from this. DON'T EVER KILL A BAT! Those raids are the worst and I genuinely believe they should be removed from the game. Adding nothing to the game and restricted builds too much.

Best breakdown of raids I’ve seen. Well done. (Some spoilers ahead) Also, I’d like to add that since Fuling totems do not respawn, Fuling raids are the only renewable way of obtaining them, as the berserkers have a 10% chance of dropping a totem. So, if you like to decorate your base with all the shiny’s like dragon eggs, stone golem trophies, totems and extra boss trophies as I do, you might wanna hold off on ending Yagluth for a bit. Especially if you intend on summoning Yag a couple times, at 5 totems per summon. Now, depending on your seed, you may have totems coming out your ears. But at least for me, I haven’t been so lucky. After exploring about 5 plains biomes, I have found a grand total of.... 2 totems. If you’ve already ended ol Yagy, there’s always the seed hopping method that some use for harvesting extra ores like iron (of which you need a TON, especially if you build with it) or silver if your mountains are unlucky, or for frost caves to get things like red jute, Fenris hair, Fenris claws and cultist trophies. I’m tempted to do it for the frost caves. After exploring about 8 mountains, 3 of which were large enough to have frost caves, I’ve only come across 2 caves with the required “basements” that house the elusive cultists, jute, Fenris claws and Fenris hair. Not nearly enough to craft the armor or claws, never mind upgrading, which I think takes a total of 160 hair. I have 27 hair... 4 claws, which are also used to create standing braziers, 10 jute, which is also used for rugs and curtains, and a lone, solitary cultist trophy. NONE of these items respawn, making them a very finite resource. Well, look at that. Came to let everyone know about the totems, ended up going on a rant about RNGesus not granting me bountiful frost caves...

Awesome tutorial. Liked and subbed. I just started playing again, after a hiatus of a few months. I’m currently only within the influence of the second raid, though I’ve had them all before. I was wondering if they’d monkeyed with the settings a bit. The Greydwarves seem to hang around and de-agro much more slowly. During one of the raids, a troll showed up! But I think that was just random chance as there was no “shaking earth” warning. I do think that the troll attacks are still the most potentially devastating, since they happen earlier when you’re less advanced in training and equipment. I mean, they’re not hard to kite around and pepper with arrows. But if one of those f#$&@#s gets inside your settlement…. Anyway, this was my first of your videos, and kudos! It’s really good. I’m off to watch the rest!
