Dude, "that guitarist right there"? I seem to remember on your early videos, you saying you were a Deep Purple fan, or at least you said you heard a lot of Purple. How can you not recognize "that guitarist right there"? Ritchie Blackmore, Deep Purple's original guitarist, one of the greatest ever!

Dude, "that guitarist", Ritchie Blackmore is at least as much a legend as Dio (the band was actually initially called "Blackmore's Rainbow") and Cozy Powell ("the drummer") not far behind. These guys and 3 or 4 others basically invented Heavy Metal, before that was even a term. Blackmore's solo in Highway Star (when he was with Deep Purple) may be the most important guitar solo of all time--it was the first metal shred solo. Yes, today there are tons of shredders out there, but at the time, no one had ever even thought of playing like that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3KudIVtoLaAirM&pbjreload=101

In fact BLACKMORE is more legend than anyone there .. extraordinary guitarrist composer ahead of time compared to others. No one could even get close to his playing till Eddie Van Halen arised. Still Eddie is perhaps the greatest Blackmore skills and knowledge of scales .. modes .. triplets .. were not usual to find in rock musicians by then. And Sir Ronnie ( rip ) and Powell ( rip ) teamed up with him to blow us away .. tryGates Of Babylon fron the Long Live Rock n Roll album

It pisses me off that Blackmore is given a back seat by first time listeners now, without Blackmore Dio would never have got where he did, Elf were going nowhere with only two records in seven years, Blackmore financed Rainbow and paid all the bills, when he wanted to move into more commercial stuff because he was bleeding out so much money Dio didn't want to know, back in the 70's you went to see Rainbow and bought the records because it was Ritchie Blackmore on guitar.

I’m kind of tired of these reactors saying it’s Dio. It’s Rainbow. Have you heard of Blackmore? Have you heard of Cozy Powell? ITS RAINBOW and the band belonged to Blackmore. Having said that, the singer in Rainbow was Dio at that time and he was amazing.

Rainbow drummer was Cozy Powell, one of the greatest of all time, as you quickly noticed ;) And at least to me, Ritchie Blackmore in his prime (which this is) is the best guitarist ever! Are you familiar enough with Deep Purple? In the early 70s they were up there with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath - another band where every member is one of the best of the world Know 'Child in Time'? (a 70s version, when Ian Gillan still had all his vocal range)

Besides being a great vocalist, what makes RDJ so good is how he expresses the lyrics. He takes you on a ride with his storytelling that usually leaves you with chills. Now put that together with one of the greatest guitarists and drummers in rock and you have magic. Rainbow was a magical band. Ritchie Blackmore is so freaking great on the guitar. Very few can match his skills. Now, you really should listen to RDJ when he was with Black Sabbath. Heaven and Hell is one of the most, if not the most, iconic metal songs written. A bit different style, same magic.

Yes my friend. Ronnie is within my top 10 metal/rock vocalists of all time (along with Bon Scott btw). Mainly known for his time in bands such as Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio. Before this he sang in Doo-Wop bands. He was a very versatile vocalist and I am just glad I got to see him perform with 'Heaven & Hell' (Black Sabbath) here in Perth WA, before he unfortunately passed away from cancer. Seeing as though this is early on in your RJD journey, check out the Sabbath song with him titled 'Heaven & Hell' as it's probably the most popular one I have noticed people react to (along with Rainbow's Stargazer). So much great music from this man. Enjoy your journey bro. \m/

Rainbow and Deep Purple played live in Japan in the 70s and 80s and that is why we now have Band Maid and Nemophila and Lovebites and Baby Metal, etc....They loved Rock back then even though they did not know the English language and now they are giving us fantastic music in return. I only mentioned Rainbow and Deep Purple here because they are my fav bands and I saw Deep Purple in 1973 and Ritchie Blackmore is a guitar god. Loved your reaction as I see people like yourself enjoying this music and giving it air time. The 60s and 70s were fantastic for music that's for sure. Then came the 80s...then later on it got sort of dead and now it is being revitalized in the Japanese bands and reactions to Rainbow and Deep Purple. Dio is unbelievable as well as the others. Keep up the excellent work in exposing these great bands of the past.

Cozy Powell, one of the greatest Rock drummers to ever live. Tragically died in a car accident several years ago. He played with many of the godfathers of hard rock and metal. Rainbow was an early super group. Ritchie Blackmore the guitar god from Deep Purple. Ritchie discovered Ronnie James Dio and David Coverdale who went on to form Whitesnake. You are not quite old enough to remember the godfathers of hard rock and metal. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. All three started in late 60's and went thru a couple decades or more.

That would have been around 1976, it's amazing that his voice had hardly changed from then until 2010 when he passed at 67. \m/ RJD \m/

Blackmore created Rainbow after Deep Purple. Blackmore recognized talent and he always surrounded himself with it to go along with his own talented quality guitar playing. This band is what propelled Dio's solo career.

Cozy Powell was a legend/classic drummer with a unique style. A person with tremendous talent in him who wasn't recognized as Keith Moon, Neil Peart, John Bonham, Ringo Starr, Roger Taylor were regarded. Even Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters was regarded at the same level as those guys, which is okay. There are drummers like Cozy who still remain unnoticed to date: *Ian Paice (Deep Purple) *Phil Rudd (AC/DC) *Vinny Appice (Dio/Black Sabbath) *Bill Ward (Black Sabbath) *Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) *Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones) *Stewart Copeland (The Police) *Bobby Rondinelli (Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow/Blue Öyster Cult) *Steven Adler (Guns N' Roses) *Rick Allen (Def Leppard) *Sib Hashian (Boston) *Tommy Aldridge *Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) To name a few

Man, this is Ritchie Blackmore's band! Also, to really appreciate this track you should listen to A Light In The Black straight after it as they are connected and frigging amazing. This album is generally regarded as one of the best rock albums ever. Period.

Oh man you really need to see Mistreated by Deep Purple at the california jam where the guitarist Ritchie Blackmore goes a little bit crazy. P.S Ritchie Blackmore is the man who wrote Smoke on the Water.🤘🇦🇺

This was always the Dio/Rainbow track for me, I remember painting that album cover on denim in 1985. I feel there is a structural thread in here that leads all the way to my favourites Epica, and even Wintersun-my wife startled me by saying 'Sons of Winter and Stars reminded her of stargazer'

Ah man, I wanna throw in a wrench and say, you would absolutely love Shogun (song), by Trivium. It's nearly 12 minutes but worth every second. It has some fast paced parts, some soft parts, and it'll be one of your favourites for sure man. Love your content! Stay safe!

I am not a native english speaker. One of the things that fascinates me most about Ronnie James Dio is that I can almost always understand the lyrics that he is singing. This is very rare. I still struggle with half the american tv series when subtitles are not on, but here was a guy singing at the top of his voice and I can still understand him! (most of the time)

Deep Purple survived quite well without Mr Crankypants actually, and their guitarist since 1996 is Steve Morse, who is every bit as good as Ritchie.

Thanks for great reaction again. I wonder about one thing though... Rainbow has such an amazing catalogue of great songs. Why do youtubers only react to Stargazer? Temple of the King, Man on the Silver Mountain, Kill the King, Catch the Rainbow...

I love Stargazer (one of my favorites), but you are right soooo much more. Catch the Rainbow is also one of my favorites. Temple of the Kings is awesome. I tell people if they really wanted to know how good of a singer Dio was, listen to "Rainbow Eyes". I am not sure if there is a more beautiful song. Then get heavy and go listen to Dio with Black Sabbath .... "Sign of the Southern Cross". Then tell me another singer that can sing both those songs.
