Everything *BROKEN* on my 20 Year Old BMW E39!

I owned one of these same engine and double miles as a stop gap for a year until April last year. I had no reliability issues in 10k miles. Parking sensors are readily available from ebay for reasonable prices. To find out which ones aren't working put the car in reverse with the ignition on and run your finger over the sensor and feel for the ones which arent pulsing. Also worth considering are blanking the swirl flaps if they're still fitted and deleting the egr.

I have just picked up a 2010 Volvo XC70 estate for 2.5K with 253,000 miles on the clock. Has literally none of these problems with mine for less money, however I do have an E46 BMW which I’ve had for years, a 330CI. 108,000 miles and the issues are endless. Not to mention I paid far more for it!

I think you might of overpaid for a non M sport 525d at £3500… but these are getting harder to find in lower miles and prices are a bit weird right now. I’ve had three e39 now including the 525d touring and I’m currently driving a 525i petrol touring. I hope this one works out well for you they are great cars

Nice car! Indeed These issues are not uncommon on a 20 year old car, nevermind a BMW. However, a couple of the issues you mention I had on the two E39’s I owned many years ago. The windscreen seals on mine were good on the sides, however the top strip was very worn but I was able to replaced it with a new part at home.

Boot lock breaks on them like the s80 mind you at 20 years old it’s probably been replaced already

When these do go wrong, they can ruin your wallet. Injectors, fuel pump, glow plugs, egr, turbo...premium stuff. Great cars, when they work.

It was bought new in London and resided in the windsor area for most of its life so it may be very possible :)
