Loved what you said about Pride & Prejudice. The older I get, the more Romance I read. There's not much more important than love in our lives so it's good to read books where it's the focus, even if it is just one aspect of it.

Love your reflections on Tar Baby. I haven't gotten to it yet, but i'm excited. People don't realize how experimental Morrison is in her work, and it sounds like this centralized dining space (and Caribbean focus) is her experiment here.

Lauren Groff’s The Vaster Wilds is also set in 1600s North America, if you were disappointed by Mason’s book I recommend that book instead. Altogether a different hero and story obviously, but truly marvellous writing. I don’t think any book will top that novel for me in 2024 and it’s only February.

Would have loved to hear the quotes on grief you mentioned you still recall from the first novel in your review since you mentioned them

I don’t think it’s accurate that the warmth of other suns popularized the great migration as a concept. I was taught concept in elementary school/middle school before books release. Just a standard part of public school curriculum. But I’m sure the book has interesting things to say

I’d agree, but it’s probably as I come from an American education system background (which I’m assuming yours also is). Either way, the book seems great and I am excited to read it!
