The significance of that scene is so much more than people realize. Waymond says “in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you”, in every other universe, waymond isnt the best version of himself. The best version of himself is with Evelyn. While the best versions of Evelyn, didnt have Waymond in them :

Adam absolutely nailed it with the suicide storyline. I've thought the same from the very first time I watched the movie. Most people focus on the acceptance of family and whatnot, but the story is about overcoming depression. Joy says the following lines in the movie... "it's all just a pointless, swirling bucket of horsesh!t" “I'm Tired. I Don't Want To Hurt Anymore And For Some Reason When I'm With You, It Just Hurts The Both Of Us.” “Do You Know Why I Actually Built The Bagel? It Wasn't To Destroy Everything. It Was To Destroy Myself.” “Why Not Go Somewhere Where Your Daughter Is More Than Just This?” "You're feeling a good thing, you got your hopes up. I'm here to save you some time. Eventually, that all just goes away."

There are many layered themes in this film. I find that people who haven't experienced suicidal thoughts tend to miss it in this movie... which is astounding to me, because it seems so explicit about those themes.

Yes! I’d been in the middle of one of my depressed moods for a while when I saw this. Everything about Joy/Jobu’s story hit me so hard, and I was basically sobbing the whole movie. I love watching analyses & reactions for this movie b/c every person gives me new insight into it. In 2017 I was su-of-cidal, and it was my mom that pulled me out. Seeing her pull Joy out of the void, right from the very edge...oh man, it wrecked me. After I'd seen it, I had her watch it with me and during that scene I turned to her and said, "that's what you did for me". We criedddd, but in a grateful way. More than a key catalyst. He hadn't booked any show since his teens. He's talked about his white friends getting 10 times as many auditions as his 1 in a year. So instead he spend the next 25 years working behind the scenes in fight choreography. But then he saw "Crazy Rich Asians" (the real catalyst) and thought maybe he should get back into acting, maybe the parts for Asian actors were there. And then he auditioned and got this part. And won an Oscar for it.

What I love about this movie (aside from everything) is that it’s this massive, universe-shattering storyline with crazy special effects, a mind-boggling range of styles and inspirations, unbelievable and eclectic sets and costumes, etc…and yet at its core, it’s an intimate family drama about generational trauma, depression, and the experience of immigrant families. It is both so enormous and so personal at the same time.

Real answer, the Daniels wrote and directed a lot of short films and music videos, including the video for turn down for what. They were invited by Sundance Lab to develop their first feature, swiss army man. It was picked up by a24. It wasn't huge but was generally well received and has since built a cult following. The Daniels had also been developing the idea of a multiverse movie for around 10 years. With independent movies, you really only need to be pitching to investors who can help fund your movie, and there are plenty of people that are happy to invest in art like this. But all in all, creativity is something that can be practiced and developed. It also helps that the Daniels are two people that can bounce ideas back and forth. After that, a lot of people devote time and energy into making the film and the Daniels are pretty good guys so the actors and crew seem happy to be a part of it. That's how something like this exists 😊

I’m only a few minutes in on your reaction, but every scene ends with your mouth agape in amazement and disbelief, each time for a totally different reason, just like the first time I watched this movie. Love it!

This movie is very special to me. I saw this movie on my birthday with my wife, 3 days after our anniversary and I had never felt more like we didnt understand each other. We had such different approaches to hardship and depression that we felt like strangers over time. We saw each other in this movie so well we felt like the movie was somehow made specifically for us. We cried and laughed and held hands for the entire duration and fell in love all over again. Never a doubt about it since ❤

This movie is so damn fantastic! And this movie made me bawl like a baby. Coming out to my family was really tough. There were times when I wanted to take my own life growing up because I wasn't good enough. I found love within myself in order to bring peace into my life, and this movie awakened that. I love this film! Honestly, I hadn't cried that much watching a movie since Coco. And yes, I love you guys too, Jay and Adam! 💖

I’m glad you pointed out the symbolism with the googly eye. At several points in the show, there are black circles on peoples foreheads to symbolize the bagel, so when she puts the googly eyes it’s the inverse. Literal yin yang.
