I can't imagine the process of editing this masterpiece together. The way the scenes flowed seamlessly was so impressive, and it could have easily been a jumbled mess but it just...works.

Just saw it in theaters with friends and for some reason I kept holding in my emotions even though they were getting really intense inside. There were many scenes where I came close to releasing them (that rock scene came very close). But when Waymond said 'in another life,' that levee broke and I released everything and tears flooded and it was damn near euphoric. It felt like the whole theater let out one deep sigh of a dozen different emotions. What an amazing piece of love this movie is

That line is powerful but for me (as a man who really tries so hard to hide from everybody the pain, anger and sorrow I feel) when Waymond says "This is how I fight" that's the most brutal and intense line of all the movie, because many men wants to scream that loud, that the people knows that we are not weak, and that takes a lot of strength to keep moving forward regardless of how we feel inside.

The last 30 minutes of this movie hit me like a truck. I still can’t watch the scenes without it making me cry. lol. Such a powerful, crazy film.

The last line of the movie hits me SO HARD. Twice, Evelyn gets distracted by other universes, and twice, Deirdre chides her with the same question: "Are you with us?" The first time, near the beginning of the film, Evelyn gets defensive and insists that yes, she was totally paying attention (even though she obviously was not). I have ADHD, and that's so me. Obviously the distraction is me, but also the defensiveness. I don't want to get distracted, I don't want to make people feel like I don't care about what they have to say, or like the conversation isn't important to me. It is, but that won't do anything to prevent my brain from haring off without my permission. So... I grew up lying about it. I would insist that I was totally actually paying attention, shut up, and then I just got really good at using context clues that followed to pretend that I knew what the conversation was about. So the movie uses a punch-you-in-the-face method of showing us how much Evelyn has grown by having her in the same place, with the same person, having the same interaction. It's literally identical, so we can see how she has developed in how her response differs to the "Are you with us?" question. I think most movies would have the main character overcome the obstacle itself - have her actually successfully pay attention. But this movie, instead, recognizes that the distraction isn't really something that just magically goes away through willpower. It's just a fact of her life. Instead, it makes it okay that this is how she is. The symbol of her growth isn't that she stops being distracted - it's that she's not ashamed of it and doesn't feel the need to lie or get defensive. It's okay to ask someone to repeat themselves. PS: during the development process for this movie, one of the writer-directors decided to research ADHD as a part of Evelyn's distraction, which resulted in him staying up until 4am reading about it, crying and going "I think I have ADHD." He ended up getting a diagnosis and started treatment while making this movie. So it's definitely not an accident that there are so many parallels, lol.

Another thing I think is interesting is that at the start of the movie she is frequently ignoring her family/setting them aside to focus on other things, but at the end she isn't paying attention to Dierdre because she is paying more attention to her family members.

Something that I love about this movie is how Waymond is, he's not the typical Hollywood hero that at the end of the movie becomes a "strong" and "fighter" man of acction, he's kind, sentimental, open, if that would've been an ordinary movie Waymond woud've become Alpha Waymond, but the movie tells you that its okay been sentimental and kind, that, being that way its not bad and that doesn't makes you less man, it's heartmelting to a sentimental man like me to find a character like him that i can identify myself with

James Hong deserves a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award in honor of this film. How many actors can say they've been in 650+ Film & TV roles? A guy from Minneapolis who can hold his own in a film at 93 years of age?? He had roles in the original Hawaii-5-O, Perry Mason, Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China, hundreds of others and he's still working!! Bravo. Bravo.

Thank you. I loved Swiss Army Man, but for some reason I was stand offish with this film. Watching the reaction you did got me to sit down and watch it finally, Jesus CHRIST what a film. Jobu Topaki is easily one of the best antagonists ever on film. S Hzu is just unbelievable in this film along with everyone else. Never seen a film with a concept this abstract and wild stick the landing so absolutely beautifully.

The ending fight is most likely one of the best fight scenes in film.. in my opinion. Just what it represents. The fight between Joy and Evelyn. It’s a physical visualization of a verbal fight. Joy being aggressive and hurting her mother. Evelyn taking every punch and push, fighting to be there for her daughter. Joy being angry and confused why her mom isn’t fighting back. It’s chaotic and sad. Represented in the distorted music and visuals constantly shifting. All ending with a private, intimate conversation where each finally gains understanding of the other. A start of a new life together…. Sorry I’m a nerd for this scene

I know this was at least a year ago and I've been following Diegesis for a while now, but the sudden urge to watch all the reactions to EEAAO hit me and I'm seeing your reaction for the first time. And I've been crying in every single one when they start getting into the deep storylines even though I've seen it so much 😭🥺 I heard someone phrase this so well about the googly eyes-- it's Waymond's way of seeing humanity and empathizing with everything even inanimate objects and when she puts the Googly third eye on, she is starting to empathize and humanize everyone has an internal struggle. ❤

Having anxiety and depression this movie. Rue Bennett and Bojack Horseman really really hit me deep. I wasn't ready for this film to be so good and hit on so many levels. The thought of "what my life could be or would have been" enters my head at least 50 times a day. I am 34 and I feel like I wasted it all. The what ifs just bury me in depression all the time. So to see it played out like this by an amazing cast really hit home. SHE ALWAYS regretting leaving and not chasing her dream. THEN she saw what her life would be like with everything she wanted and she chose to be there with her husband and daughter instead. That is just beautiful. The googly eyes. White ring with a black circle to counter the "bagel" UGH everything about this movie was just pure amazing.

A lot if people don't realize that the original point of Buddhism is the same purpose the Bagel has... to actually die, annihilation... the cessation of suffering by dissolving into nonbeing via nirvana. That might seem silly to a modern person, but people in that culture weren't naturalist materialists, they were Hindus. And the weight of infinite, inescapable rebirth karma was something one might want to escape.

And Buddha pointed out that to live is to suffer, and he held out the gosp is to escape suffering, to cease the ego entirely and not keep repeating the cycle. Accepting death doesn't make sense as a goal when no one stays dead in Hinduism, and Buddhism is a response to the Hindu problem of eternal reincarnation. It's escaping the wheel through annihilation of the self in the cosmic blender of Nirvana. See, suicide isn't actually possible in Hinduism. You just get bad karma and come back anyways. So then how can you stop? The cessation of egoic life entirely. You're not dying per se, it's way m9recdeae than that, it's total non-existence of independent distinction. An analogy analogy physics is that it's akin to countering every force, particle and wave with its opposite... a true quantum vacuum flatline... all energy and zero energy all at once... as close as it's possible to get to non-existence. In the west it's sold completely differently. The ability to obtain serenity and suppress the ego is often embraced to address our western problems of egoic, ambition based suffering, and stressors of that sort, especially for westerners who have abandoned traditional western monotheistic ideologies and rheir respective lifestyles... Sam Harris being a well known bellwether for this trend.
