I'm in pain watching this! What a hard car to work on. I have one of these SS Monte Carlos. Bought it brand new off the show room floor in 2006. It has 23K miles with all the original parts, right down to the tires and wiper blades. Never cared too much for it since it's FWD. I think I'm just going to pass it over to my son. It's been sitting in a carpeted garage for the last 3 years.

I kinda want a "Meet The Helper Unit" video, because I'm genuinely curious how Ray chose Troy, and what kind of previous experience Troy did or didn't have. A suggestion... learned from when I had a water impeller disintegrate in my boat motor. Force a large amount of water backwards through the coolant system. All the little chunks tend to go into smaller and smaller places till they get caught, partially covering what they got caught on. Forcing water backwards through the system sends them back where they came from to/through the larger tunnel they traveled into/down, and out of the engine. It was unbelievable the chucks that came out after it occurred to me I should do that! A kind of reverse flush

Some of Ray's videos trigger moments of nostalgia, and this is one of them. The last project I did with a Monte Carlo SS was salvaging a low mileage 454 ci engine to build out for my 1969 Z-28. Even with the extra weight of the big block I was able to take my breakout time from 6.15 (running a built out 302) to 5.85 seconds ET in the 1/8 mile (with 4.56 differential gears) while keeping the Camaro street legal. I tried running a 5.86 differential for awhile and while it produced better times at the track it wasn't good for street use. It's a lot of fun to not only outrun other cars but even very fast motorcycles when running 100 feet, 1/8 mile, and 1/4 mile distances. Everyone gets surprised when a car beats a motorcycle, especially over the first 100 feet. I don't know how many times I've heard "a car can't beat a motorcycle" before proving that old adage wrong. p.s. - Don't get caught drag racing on the street because they take your license for that (personal experience speaking). It's all fun and games until Johnny Law ruins the party.
@patrickchavez3848 Жыл бұрын
Or until someone dies from stupidity! Drag racing in the street is a stupid idea! You don't want to wake up in the hospital and be told you're on your way to prison cuz you took out a family while racing on city streets! Just don't.
@gaiustacitus4242 Жыл бұрын
@@patrickchavez3848 You're right that only an idiot would race on city streets where an innocent could be harmed. We always chose roads that had no traffic at night. The local industrial park was a favorite because the roads are four lanes wide and straight, there was more than a half mile for deceleration, all of the businesses were closed after midnight, and the only people there were those involved in street racing. Highways under construction which had not been opened for public use were another good choice. As for risk of injury and response, you're no more likely to be injured on a well maintained roadway and are far closer to emergency response vehicles and hospitals than at a dedicated raceway. FWIW, I've never seen an accident at these unofficial races, though I have observed a few injuries (which resulted from fighting over insults tossed about).

That car saw 30 of the 48 contiguous states going from music festival to music festival and short of issues with fuel pumps / intake & head gaskets was always a very dependable vehicle.
