Whatever grip keeps me on the bar longer is what I’m going to use. My grip gets more work with bigger sets along with the major muscle groups. My abs don’t get worked if my hands hurt after 7 ttb. My hip flexors scream if I can get a set of 20 in.
@wildcatblue1313 күн бұрын
Grip strength is what holds a lot of people back , that and lat endurance / flexibility and strength in those bar movements .. so yeah it would be interesting without grips .. I don’t use grips at all . But I also work very hard on grip strength .. it’s important !

Schwinn Airdyne FTW. I have one sitting in my garage right now that I every once awhile get on and push. It calculates calories much faster than the assault bike. The durability and the quality of the chain and fan belt is much higher than the Assault Bike which allows it to spin so smooth and effortless.

Grips do help, but i dont see it as a bad thing, its just like belts knee sleeves wrist wraps. If you want to ban grips, good, do it. But ban all grips, rubber grips do stick very well. BUT so do leather grips on a proper bar. The thing with rubber is that it sticks to all bars, and leather sucks at sticking to smooth bars, but they stick great to other bars.

I've been a member of loads of gyms over the years and never had an issue doing hi rep T2B or pull ups without grips - in fact I massively preferred it. Moved to a new gym in the summer and I was really struggling and it was a massive shock. There's just something about the rig that makes even hanging from the bar with no grips a struggle. I notice that everyone has rubber grips, which I'd never really taken notice of before but it turns out on this rig that is what you have to use (or tape the bar). Opposite end, at one of my old gyms we had a rig with a really nice coating and thin bars and on that I could do strict bar muscle ups. Never been able to do them anywhere else. So, depending on the gym, using grips can be a requirement or it can be a disadvantage. They aren't crazy expensive so just allow people to use them, even at the Games.

I will say, regardless of rubber, felt, or leather, false grip can be used to take most of the tension on the hands themselves off the body and distribute it to the shoulders

The thing with grips is that I don’t see how there is an advantage when it is available for any athlete to utilize. Definitely don’t recommend them for absolutely everything, but ultimately if it’s a fair playing field I don’t see the issue. As well as, for the fastest time, not having to “chalk up”every single time you get on a rig is just going to make it much more fun to watch and truly see how fast someone can do a workout with modern gear. Totally just an opinion but that’s just my view.

I think the Hyrox athelte callout is dumb. Hyrox is by design an incredibly simple test of fitness, that's why pretty much any ablebodied person can sign up and complete it. Crossfit on the other hand has an extremely wide array of highly skill dependent movements, so obviously top Hyrox'ers can't compete. To me that doesn't necessarily make them less fit though. Take for example the pull up; a hyrox athlete can have the fucking world record in conventional pull ups and still stand no chance in crossfit events if they haven't practiced butterfly pullups. Are we really saying that this makes them less fit? There is obviously no doubt that Pro Crossfitters are much stronger and have a far bigger skillset than Pro Hyroxers. But does that really make them more fit? I personally think this get's to the core of what Hyrox is doing right that Crossfit got wrong when it decided to become a sport: The meassure of fitness should first and foremost be about functional fundamentals. Literally just move your body and some stuff around with as high a workrate as possible. Olympic weightlifting, technical kipping movements etc can be cool and somewhat useful, but I personally think they are far too skill focused to be considered a requirement for being fit. To me the clear example is watching hyroxers and crossfitters run. With very few exceptions top level crossfitters get so bulky that they have clumsy and unnatural strides that is somewhere between hilarious and painful to watch. They make up for it with sheer capacity and can definitely put up some incredibly impressive numbers, but the point still stands. Crossfit emphasizes leg strength to a point where the most fundamental movement of all, literally just getting your own body from A to B, becomes unnatural. Hyroxers on the other hand, holy fuck their strides are so smooth that I was literally mesmerized watching the world championship unfold. Now as a training regime and philosophy I think Crossfit is MUCH better, cooler and more interesting and I don't even find the prospect of doing a Hyrox myself even moderately interesting. But as a sport it is succeeding massively where Crossfit just ended up as the joke of the fitness industry.
@coachb53012 күн бұрын
Hunter is the one calling out Crossfit, so Hiller is giving it back. Hyrox is too repetitive and way too running centric. I do think Crossfit has ridiculous exercises, but elite Crossfit people are smoking Hyrox athletes.

telling people what kind of grips to use is micro-managing. if you want to build grip strength of course use you grips less often. But if you want to use grips to rip off bigger sets of gymnastics why should the crossfit games tell you you can't?
@alexroebuck530413 күн бұрын
Exactly , volume seems to creep up and since these new material grips I’ve never had a rip compared to the old chalk style . If they help protect people’s hands and ability to meet the increased volume demands I don’t get why they wouldn’t be looking out for athletes wellbeing . Oh I know why (2024 games…..)

I might be cynical here but I think the grip rule is because a certain company in the US was loosing too much business to a certain Australian company who mostly sell rubber grips and have signed a large number of rod high profile athletes recently. Said company ceo has then gone and had a cry to boz about it and boz has changed the rules accordingly. Or maybe I’m reading too much into this…

@ he’s saying you shouldn’t be able to use grips because they make it easier to complete the pull up… kinda like kipping makes it easier to do a pull up.
@NickCarter-d1k12 күн бұрын
@@shannonsteven3982 but he’s not saying you aren’t doing them properly. Making something easier doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not proper. Kinda like wearing a belt for a deadlift. But rubber gymnastic grips 100% make any gymnastics easier. I can hold onto much bigger sets of kipping pull ups, toes to bar, bar muscle ups, etc with rubber grips than leather. Funny enough since you’re pissing and moaning about Kipping. The rubberized grips specifically make Kipping movements easier because you stick to the bar better and your hands don’t slide around as much as you move on the bar.
@shannonsteven398212 күн бұрын
@@NickCarter-d1kfirstly I don’t use them so it actually isn’t aimed at me. My point stands though as you said “the rubber grips specifically make kipping movements easier because you stick to the bar” yeah, just like kipping movements make doing an actual pull up easier because you don’t have to to actually completely the movement.

They are great on powder coated bars, but you’re not supposed to get chalk on them (good luck with that during a CrossFit workout) and they’re also not that good on the Speal bars.
