The primary goal of CrossFit, the company, is to make money. The goal is no longer to forge elite fitness. In this respect it is “broken.”

And, as a consequence, CrossFit ultimately will end up making less money bc it lost its why. CrossFit used to have such a strong brand under Glassman before he got cancelled impulsively bc they were solely focused on forging elite fitness. It was like if Apple lost Jobs (vision: challenge status quo and think differently), Harley-Davidson lost Willie G Davidson (vision: maintaining heritage), Southwest Airlines lost Herb Kelleher (vision: customer service and employee satisfaction to democratize air travel) or Starbucks lost Howard Schultz (vision: creating third space for ppl to hand out besides home and work)

@@thedavenaugler shouldn't be that sad at all since that is the actual goal of every company on the face of the earth (excluding non profit). CrossFit just got way bigger and benefitted from fat initial investments to hire more staff that serve no purpose; "unstructured problem solving", what the hell is this lady talking about? Every problem solving methodology is structured by nature. They need to cut the unnecessary positions and invest in a stronger public relationships department; make CrossFit visible in schools so the younger generations do not only focus on the good ol' college sports.

@@alanbejarano4940 Yes, that’s the goal with each company. That was not Greg’s primary goal with CrossFit. CrossFit does need to make money, and not at the cost of its mission. Keeping focus of its mission and the “why” will retain its current consumers and will bring new consumers/adopters in. CrossFit requires an individual at the helm that, “get’s it”, clearly sees the old ways, content, and engagement of CrossFit. And move forward in that direction. Side note: Personally the abandonment of “Forging Elite Fitness” was a mistake. So many OG’d connect with that and still fly that flag, regardless.

I worked for a startup with only 160 employees. The head of HR, recruited and grew her team to the size of 36, just like Annette. Including DEI that contributed nothing, talent that used external agencies, business partners (some sort of HR advice to business units) all non- revenue producing. Meanwhile my team contributed a good portion of the revenue of the company. They ended up laying off 85% of the company, and finally selling the company because of the burden of people that did nothing.

I own a company with about 50 employees, both part-time and full-time. I'm telling you right now, the only way one of my staff is getting promoted and keeping their job is if they work hard and produce results. I could care less what they look like, how they were raised, or what they do at home. People who work hard and do what I hire them to do get rewarded. The entire concept that Crossfit has hired this woman to do is ridiculous and unnecessary. These heads of media need to go and be replaced with someone who can actually produce content. Her boss said people don’t trust her because she smiles too much, and she turned that into a discussion about black stereotypes. They told her she was at her ceiling within the organization and somehow derived that it was because she was a black woman, then they didn’t replace her with another black person after she left the company, and she can’t get over how at every meeting she’s “always” the only black person. MAYBE she wasn’t hired for that position based on the color of her skin, and MAYBE she was hired based purely on her merits and credentials. MAYBE even the next person was, OR MAYBE they were so sick of her playing the black victim card around every corner that even though the next candidate very well could’ve been black they decided they WOULDN’T hire another black person for the position. How about that? Maybe her emphasis on the color of her skin and DEI actually made it WORSE FOR BLACK PEOPLE?!

When I hear ANY claim from a woman that somebody said something rude to them, I’m immediately skeptical. Based on life experience. Like it or not, exaggeration happens. A LOT. When you find out what really happened, you realise the story had embellishments, exaggeration or at the very least paraphrasing. One thing stood out for me was she said on two occasions “I was told…”. First case was she was told she would never make partner because she’s a woman and black. She doesn’t say, it was her bosses, or superiors who told her that. I’d hazard a guess, she was probably told that by an equal. They we’re probably bitching about lack of opportunities. Her friend was probably like “You are amazing and they don’t give you the respect you deserve!” Followed up quickly with “and you know why, don’t you??”etc etc. I feel modern victim society is 90% people telling other people they are discriminated against, and the other people gladly agree. Because it makes them feel better than the other possible option. That they just aren’t great. I find it incredibly hard to believe that any bosses in the US in the last 20 years would bluntly tell them they aren’t getting anything because they are black. Even if they were racist, they all know now to be more subtle.

The affiliates aren’t happy with how CrossFit is being managed. The level one and training isn’t doing well. There is not much media and the media they have isn’t good and doesn’t get many views. The games team is having problems with leaked workouts-poor judging errors and different standards for different people. It seems more and more likely that CrossFit was purchased to destroy itself. Prospective buyers will do their research and see what a shit show it’s turned into they won’t want to buy or buy at a reduced price. Just my thoughts.

The problem with society in general nowadays is that it’s all about inclusion and diversity. When fit meritocracy became second to diversity. It’s just sad. This should had been an interview about a happy and diverse work environment. It’s just sad

I appreciated you sharing this. IMHO, CrossFit is replicating basically what Big Tech did in the 2000s and 2010s - in the land of 0% interest rates. When you are trying to make money and stay relevant, focusing on hiring people who address the bottom line must be forefront. IMHO the cited stuff here is a distraction and detracts from the main point at the beginning - that poor marketing, member engagement and driving targeted funnels for revenue is a major blind spot at HQ.

CPO at CF = DEI hire . . . pure and simple. She reeks of wokeness and virtue signaling. As far as the CF media team goes Andrew, be careful what you ask for . . . the best they could probably come up with is some play on the Taylor Swift tour. You know, the queen of pop wokeness. Oh wait . . .

35 people under the CPO is wild even for a 500 person company. Almost 10% of your people are worried about the experience of the employee at the company? You would think with a small team everyone would be worried about how to push CrossFit further.
