One thing I hoped you would mention: When you're in the top of the church with the bombs about to go off, they won't immediately go off. Joker foreshadows the ending of the game, after which he detonates the bombs. Here's the full dialogue piece: Joker: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. See you soon, Bats. What are you waiting for? We both know how this is going to turn out. You're going to come and find me. You can't stop yourself, can you? Sometimes, I wonder if all this will just end with one of us looking down at the other's corpse, trying to work out what to do next. The only question is, whose body will it be? I know who I'm rooting for. What about you? (Joker lets out a creepy and maniacal laugh.) Joker: Now get out of there now, or you'll ruin everything. BOOM. Credit goes to Batman Arkham Videos for revealing that Easter Egg.

You're videos great! You present your points well and I respect not every story is for everyone. As an Arkham City fanatic however, I think there are two things I'd at about your narrative critiques. 1.) Sometimes Batman just being Batman is great, I don't believe every story needs to destroy his desire to be Batman, especially after 70 years. 2.) The theme this game presents, in my eyes, is the importance of life. As you point out, Batman is constantly looking for loopholes to break his one rule, his first thought isn't to stop protocol 10 but to save Thalia and the cure is more important to him since it saves 'innocents'. This is an old Batman, he's used to his one rule but is tired of it. He's happy to let Nora, Solomon Grundy and all the criminals in Arkham die if he's not the one pulling the trigger. But right at the end, when he's lost the person he loves most and sees how pathetic the Joker is, he realises the importance of saving people, no matter how evil. It's the difference between crime fighting and being a superhero. He's still Batman, he never stops being, but he learns to save people again rather than stop tragedy, which is important for Arkham Knight as he needs to save Jason and learn he can't stop every crime

I really don't think its about wanting to give up his no killing rule. He's just that confident and smart enough to know what could kill someone. Batman in general is a cynical person so Arkham City is just another night for him.
@Finbars93 жыл бұрын
@@Aeluron I don't think it's necessarily that he wants to break it, as much as it's that he's so used to it it's stopped being important to him. As you say, this is just another night for him and we all end up slacking off at work eventually. He's looking for loopholes in the same way someone looks for shortcuts when sending their 500th email that day. His night in Arkham City, facing villains who believe they are good because they kill all criminals, losing the woman he loves most and seeing how pathetic and human even the Joker can be, helps to reignite the anger and passion for his one rule. It becomes important to him again, which is why he wants to save Joker by the end

If he was getting sick of it(He wasn't but..) Why would he even object to the not killing part during the League of Assassins part? I'm honestly a bit surprised you didn't talk about the DLC, Harley Quinn's Revenge, but to be fair with the points you made at the end, not much happens in it to warrant it aside from Harley SOMEHOW getting the Wonder City bots to serve her (seriously, how'd she do that?) I love this entry simply for the "Empire Strikes Back" feel it gives me. I remember getting this game on launch, just getting out of college, came home off the bus around 5, ran to the store, got my reserved copy and was like "YES, this is gonna be hype!" and then the scene were Bruce Wayne breaks his restraints before beating up all of Penguin's dudes, that was such a ton setter. That might be my favorite part of the game honestly, because it establishes just how tough Batman is. While City has good predator spots, the combat was so improved upon that it is always what shines in my mind. It is probably my favorite Arkham game because of the improvements, the quality of life fixes. Not just to combat but the diving while gliding, the kicking off the walls into another glide, the ability to just perch on a railing, which was SOMEHOW not in Asylum, the added running ninja flip Batman can do, and the forced exploration, fun exploration. I will agree, the story is kinda...like, honestly, the Ra's and Talia parts piss me off, they're shoe horned in. I loved how Strange was immediately a threat, and ever present but out of reach (like the Joker in Asylum) but they made him way more of a backseat villain.

9:38 Okay, here's what happens, and it's rather simple: It's just a big window. Clayface Joker is on the side with Batman and Sick/Real Joker is on the other. Clayface Joker/Basil Karlo is an actor and his powers allow him to perfectly mimic someone down to their voice, expressions, tone, and movements. It makes sense that he would be able to perfectly copy Sick Joker's movements as Sick Joker stands on the other side of the glass. Hell, it isn't even a stretch to think that in all the downtime while Batman is running around, the two would be rehearsing their big reveal. We know that Joker loves his jokes and twists and Clayface would do anything to play the "role of a lifetime." So when it's time for the reveal, when Clayface Joker turns around to face Batman, Sick Joker backs away from the glass to watch the fun. There are a couple things to support this. First, when Batman is figuring things out in the Monarch Theater, the flashbacks of gameplay, we see a different angle of the Steel Mill cutscene and in it, when Clayface Joker turns, we see that Sick Joker, aka Real Joker, remains facing the way he is, revealing the glass to be a mirror. Additionally, when you look at their clothes, we can already see that Clayface Joker's clothes are lighter colored and not as stained, while Sick Joker's clothes are darker and bloodstained from his sickness. If you look closely you can also see that Clayface Joker's hair is still vibrant green and not patchy like Sick Joker's. So yeah, pretty simple. Big glass window, Clayface Joker on the side with Batman, Sick/Real Joker on the other.

(I wrote way too much here, I'm sorry) I gotta put this as third favourite of the Arkham Games. In all honesty, my order is the reverse order of release. 1. Knight 2. Origins 3. City 4. Asylum Now granted, I absolutely love all 4 of these games more than I care to admit. But I have the most memories with Knight, and the biggest connection to it. Beating the 240% a few times will do that. I'm not trying to brag when I say it's my most successful game either. The only platinum trophy I have ever achieved, and I am missing only 3 achievements in the whole DLC. But that's not what makes it good. People weren't a fan of the Batmobile sections, saying they felt all the same. I still couldn't get over the fact I was driving the Batmobile. The story is just... Perfection, in my eyes. There is no better way I could ever think of ending that game, and ending the quadrilogy. I can tell I'll get hate for saying Asylum is 4th, but it's the most fitting place for it. I just didn't enjoy my time there as much as I did in City, or Origins. And I still love Asylum. It was a revolutionary game and truly a masterpiece in so many ways. But I do think it has some flaws. One of the focus points for me in gaming is the voice acting. And I hate to admit this but... I didn't really like Kevin's performance in Asylum. It feels way too forced, and not as... Batman as the rest of the games. Origins, I have the same points as many others. Seeing a younger, angrier, tougher and more insane version of Batman and the Joker was a really cool experience. And going back to the voice acting, this is quite possibly my favourite game in terms of just vocal performance. Roger Craig Smith is one Batman I wish I could see more of. His performance was nothing if not amazing, and perfect for this young, angry Batman. And Troy Baker's Joker... Obviously, there is no Joker like Mark Hamill, but Troy Baker to me is an incredibly close 3rd, just behind Ledger (RIP). His performance gives me chills every time I play the game, even at this point 8 years later. But City. The way I see it is City is all of these games combined into one. Amazing setting, amazing vocal performance, pretty damn good story (even if lacking at times). And it does all of these... but when you put them all together, it just doesn't feel as right as the other games. It does all of these but just not as "at the peak" like the game with that skill. City is the first Arkham game I played and I still play it to this day, quite a lot. And I love the comic book vibes in the game... but putting it third just seems the best place. If you actually took the time to read all of this, I am so sorry. You now know the opinions of another random person online, so congratulations

So I just got done playing City, Asylum, and Origins like 2 days ago and honestly I think something that needs to be pointed out is that Batman isn’t worried about people dying, he just doesn’t want to be held responsible for their death. He will sacrifice lives at this point if he stops who he is trying to stop, like the Joker or Strange! We see a big difference from Origins to City and that is the transformation of vigilante to crime fighter, to ultimately, a superhero. When he’s faced with the decision doing what Bruce Wayne wants to do and doing what Batman should do, we can hear the internal struggle as he listens to Alfred! Great game! But in my opinion, it is the number 3 spot so far on my list. It’s not that there’s stuff I hate about it, just that there’s too many things I like about the other games

Thats were it stops for me. Origins was my first arkham game. A friend of mine gave it to me around Christmas 2013. I gave it a go because I knew it was a prequel to asylum and city, so I wasn't concerned with potential spoilers as I didn't think there would be any. Surprisingly, prior to receiving this game, I wasn't really a batman fan. But Origins made me a batman fan. Seeing Bruce be so ruthless, unstable and angry was bizarre to me but when the story was about to come to a close, seeing how guilty he felt letting Alfred almost die, that lady in the bank die, the fact that he resuscitate bane, the one villain who knew his identity and tried to kill his only family and ruin his crusade against crime. That scene really resonated with me. It made me realise that underneath all that aggression and brutality is a man who uses his intellect and skill to do the right thing. A man who uses his pain for something good, righteous. Justice being dished out in a somewhat vengeful way, but never too much. I owe a lot to arkham origins and arkham knight(although the knight's identity itself was lame). I remember getting arkham knight and the day I got it, I will never forget how I felt during the scene of the ace chemicals "blast radius reduction" scene where Bruce says "It's what you taught me, do the right thing, that's all that matters." That line struck a chord with me. Roger Craig Smith was great. I loved him as Ezio and a young batman but Kevin Conroy will always be the quintessential Batman to me. As will Mark Hamill when it comes to The Joker. Batman is my idol when it comes to ethics. Those who are good deserve hope and those who do evil deserve to filled with fear so that may never do evil again, they also deserve rehabilitation.

As we know, he did not write Knight, but still I can give them a win for tying the plot to Bruce's hallucinations in this one. Totally agree with you about the comicbook feeling of this game. It still has some elements of gothic horror though, especially in everything concerning Wonder City. Some of the scenes are still stuck with me and it gave me the feels to rewatch Bruce talking to Alfred, surrounded by helicopters, while the definitive main theme played in the background. That's why when Clayface turns, the reflection doesn't (as the "reflection" is looking in the same direction it was before clayface turning) You can't notice it when it happens because then Clayface turns, the frame cuts into just showing him instead of him along Joker. You only notice this on the flashback after the reveal, in which the game pulls a Scooby Doo adding this detail along the others. You can also check where the "mirror" was and see that in fact, there is no mirror

3:12-3:31 A cool thing I noticed that may just be something no one who did it was thinking about is the movements of Two-Face’s head in each shot. In the first shot of Harvey’s side you see a sliver of the Two-Face side. The two times it cuts to the Two-Face side, you see parts of Harvey’s face when he turns his head. The last shot of Harvey’s side you only see that side. It seems like a visual representation of the internal conflict; Harvey appears to be fighting to keep his other side under control in this set of shots. I already liked the cinematography here, but I didn’t notice this until I saw your video.

I’ll never forget Christmas 2011. I got Arkham City and Skyrim for my Xbox 360 and spent the next months getting lost in each game for hours on end. Before then I had mostly played 3D platformers and a couple FPS games, but those two completely shifted my paradigm on what video games had the potential to be.

Jack Ryder infuriates me almost as much as the Riddler does in Arkham Knight, I wanna hurt them both- that’s gotta be a normal feeling…right?

9:40 I’m pretty sure that both Joker and Clayface Joker are there, and the mirror is a fake. Clayface Joker is just perfectly mimicking real Joker.

This channel and people from this channel gets me so much. My two favorite arkham games are origins and knight as well while most people like asylum and city more. But origins and knight are the best

1. City 2. Origins 3. Knight 4. Asylum City was the second game i played but the first one i really understood, i’d ran around a few times on assassins creed 2 and asylum on my uncles PS3 when i was a kid, so when i got City on my own PS3 (which my mum finally let me have) it felt special, i was doing it on my own i played the game full through but running round arkham city, doing all the side missions, beating clay face after about a million tries, it all seems like a distant memory as now after playing through the game as i’ve gotten older it sounds cliche but they were the good old days, i can’t replay this game and feel the same along with many other games so that’s why i treasure these games so much because they made me feel great as a kid i have so many great memories that i can’t replicate now games aren’t the same anymore, i loved the arkham series but City will always be my favourite.

My only real issue with this game was that in my first playthrough, I would get distracted by side mission and forget what I was supposed to be doing. It wasn't a problem in subsequent playthroughs.

With the mirror, i used to think that joker and clayface were just facing each other and that there was another track that mirrored the other one.

A subtle nod at 10:27. Catwoman when thinking of choosing to leave Batman, has the seductive Catwoman voice we know. But when thinking of choosing to save Batman, more of Selina’s voice comes through.

One of my favourite hints that there are two jokers is how Clayface Joker always addresses Batman as "Batman" and his tone is always dripping with disdain, whereas the real Joker only ever calls him "Bats" in a playful tone.

I could understand this being not your favorite Arkham game (it’s mine easily). Having played all 4 at this point I think this is still the best. To me this is the Dark Knight of comic book games and even with Origins and Knight coming after they don’t resonate the same. Having Batman in a super-criminal version of Hamsterdam from The Wire is dope and I think the dynamic of Batman coming to terms with his own mortality this far into his career is interesting. It’s the middle ground of Asylum and Knight which makes a better balance.

I just finished rewatching your Origins and Asylum video earlier today and was wondering when you would upload the City video. Great timing! I agree with you on the fact that this game doesn't really have much going for it when looking at the plot. The entire thing just feels like a wild goose chase for the cure until the end when protocol 10 is activated and we have to stop it. The story is definitely the least impressive out of the 4 games. That said, it is still my second favourite out of the 4 (number 1 being Knight, because as much shit that game gets, I kinda enjoy the tank sim sections). The story might be lacking but just like you pointed out, the fact that it feels like a comic book in video game form, the greatly improved combat system from Asylum, the wide range of Villains and the overall quality of gameplay are reasons why I love it so much. Also it was the first Arkham game I played because i was a little kid who did not know back then that this was a sequel, so maybe nostalgia also plays a big part in me loving it so much Great video, eagerly waiting for the one on Arkham Knight now! :)

Arkham City is my #1 Fav game of all Time, Serious enough to buy into the Stakes, Yet Campy Enough for the Comic book Feel. And the Fact they made an Open World Asylum was amazing. Btw the Mirrior thing was Dramatic Effect ;)

What happened with the Joker mirror situation is that R.J. (Real Joker) was on the opposite side of the glass (I think it's glass?) And C.J. (Clayface Joker) was on the side where he jumps down and the boss fight commences, you can even see it in the flashbacks where Batman figures it out before it is to late

He added two wins to Ra's dying at 11:56 This had the best plot twist in the series (second is Black Mask being Joker in Origins). Also, when fake Joker talks about the church in the Steel Mill, you can hear the real Joker coughing while filming it.

So in the mirror scene this is what I think. I think it’s clayface with healthy joker’s back. And he looks like sick joker from the front. But when he turns around he molds himself into healthy joker. Also I love the touch where he only calls Batman by Batman instead of his joker nickname “bats”

Personally to me. What made the Arkham series so great we still get Batman BS rules. At this point in the series Batman lost a lover in Talia and a son Jason Todd who he believed the joker killed. after all that Batman still says he would’ve saved the joker is great narrative writing

I remember playing this when I was a kid and it being one of my favorite games! I spent way too much time trying to beat Riddler lol. I'd say my favorite area is the Cyrus Pikney Museum because it's filled with easter eggs and references to both the Arkhamverse and the comics. I would've loved it if you also covered the Arkham City comics and how they tied into the game but I guess that isn't essential for the video. Thanks for covering it, I think you did a fine job, even if I slightly disagree with your Disney Star Wars comment lol.

Personally, Knight is my favorite (spoiler alert) because I love how Jay and Bruce interact. Bruce being willing to help Jay after all that he did. Its a far departure of comic bruce and i love it. Me and my friend often look at Jay ad the only real "Robin" of the gang. Despite his early murders later on her becomes the guy that'll drop a chase to help a old lady cross the streets. Jay the robin that relates to the people of Gotham and wants to help THE PEOPLE and not just stop bad guys. He just also happens to be a bit of a idiot. And thats why I love knight, i treats jay the way he should be treated, a Victim of a monster. Someone in need of help, someone in need of support. Jay is no where near beyond saving and has red camouflage clothing shows he still wants to be a Robin despite him thinking he isn't anymore. And Bruce acknowledging that and being willing to help him and support him is my favorite part of it all. It supports my believe that no one is beyond saving and everyone is deserving of help, support and a second chance. And that often times the people that do wrong are victims themselves. No their actions are not excused, but they deserve to be helped. Just like Jay does.

This was the single player game of my childhood. Sure there was Transformers War for / Fall of Cybertron, and Minecraft (can't be challenged), but this was the game I probably have the most hours on. The intro of breaking the cuffs, kicking Penguin's ass, and climbing Ace Chemicals to suit up is just *chefs kiss*. And we can't diss the score, especially the predator theme. And that Freeze fight was lowkey terrifying to me as a kid. "twinkle twinkle little bat, watch me kill your favourite cat.."
