When you mentioned "entering the winter of his life," it hit me: the entire movie has an autumn theme, hence the large amounts of orange. Mr. Fox is fully orange in his youth, but has hints of white in his face during the events of the film: his autumn orange is giving way to the white of winter.

I love that Roald Dahl hated the idea of on-screen adapatations of his books, and now that he's dead Wes Anderson made a movie that's arguably more beloved than the original.
@phousefilms5 жыл бұрын
Fun fact is that the ending of the movie is the original idea Dahl had for the ending of "Fantastic Mr.Fox". Publishers didn't like the idea that Fox tunnelling into a supermarket might be seen as "pro thievery", so thats why the original ending just ended with the farmers waiting forever. Anderson changed it so that the Supermarket is owned by the three farmers, thereby restoring the original ending.

10:17 Amazing fact about the wolf scene: According to an interview with Jason Schwartzman, "One day when we were doing this particular scene with this wolf, we were all about to shoot it and then Wes said, you know we should really get someone to play the wolf so that the guys have someone to act opposite, and we looked around and Bill Murray was standing there with his hands in his pockets. He took his hands out and said, “I can be the wolf.” And Bill Murray just took off running, or I guess trotting. And he ran, ran, ran, ran really far away until he was tiny. And he turned around and actually became the wolf, like he, it’s almost as if he embodied the wolf. And he acted it out for us, and it was so inspiring and so beautiful. And Wes actually took out his camera phone, filmed it, and then sent that footage to the animators to base the wolf off of Bill Murray, so Bill Murray is the uncredited wolf in this movie. And he actually, it was so good, it was as if he practiced it. I mean, it was incredible, his wolf performance."

I was able to watch this on my own and have my own thoughts on it, and i love it. Everything about it, the visualization, the dry and dark humor, the little things people don’t notice, everything. I watched this movie about 5 times before I ever learned how most others thought about it, but it was too late, I was hooked, and I’m so happy that I am. If I hadn’t watched this alone and made my own opinions and discoveries about it, I would’ve become one of the sheep just following everyone else on the hate train. People dislike this movie because it doesn't follow the book too closely? Kids, let me tell you something. I love and honor Roald Dahls books beyond everything but even I know that "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is only 81 pages long and that includes all the awesome drawings from Sir Quentin. What were they supposed to do? Make a ten minutes-film? Let's all just kick back and relish in the fact that Roald Dahl's books are still relevant and people still love the stories enough to be creative and try to find a studio that will finance the thing and flipping build all those flipping sets and create those characters and cast great actors and stuff. Rant over. I just have a lot of feelings about Roald Dahl, okay?
@DHynes56 жыл бұрын
Yeah, completely agreed! The reason why I love this film and yet think the Willy Wonka film from the 70s is a bit overrated as it didn't follow the book is because, with FMF, you can't really make that book into a film so Wes Anderson took the best/most important parts of the book and handled them faithfully in his own twist and you can see that this film was still made with passion in mind. I don't hate the 70s Willy Wonka movie (Gene Wilder was perfect for the role of Wonka), but they had no excuse for changing the book so much IMO as it had plenty of material to work with.

It takes so much focus, and only gets harder and more complicated the more complicated either/both movements get. Now this? Its next level. I have MASSIVE respect for the animators who worked on this, and all of his stop motion films, and hell, shout out to LAIKA, they make amazing things aswell. Stop motion takes dedication, patience, and time. Those last 2 esspecially. If you're a new animator, be patient with yourself, it takes time, you got this.

One of the most beautiful things in Wes Anderson films most people don't seem to notice is the brutal honesty of his characters. His characters always speak their mind in one way or another even when it is extremely unrealistic to do so for most people and it's so comforting. I thrive to always be honest and truthful because of Wes Anderson's characters and the beauty it brings them. Zero wouldn't really tell a random reporter he kept the hotel for his long gone wife in The Grand Budapest Hotel but it's a Wes Anderson film so he does and it brings people joy. Even if it's hard or sad it's always good to speak your mind, that's what Wes Anderson taught me and I'm so grateful for it.

I loved watching this movie when I was a kid (god it feels like so long ago) because it felt like a wild crazy adventure wrapped around a mid-life crisis surrounded with themes of insecurity and acceptance... I loved the book and I feel the movie took Roald Dahl's original work and did a great job at adapting the story as well as expanding/extending it, I'm sad that more people disliked the movie (including my dad that still doesn't understand why I love this so much haha)

This was one of my favorite stop motion movies in my childhood, and is still probably one of my favorite movies ever (partially because of the memories I have connected to it) and looking back on it I feel a lot of nostalgia. I had no idea who Wes Anderson was before watching this, but if the rest of his movies have a vibe like this one, I definitely look forward to experiencing them. Thank you, once again, for your optimistic and entertaining videos!

I remember watching this movie in the theatres as a little kid. I loved it, the witty humor and just "It makes me feels things" makes me love it. I haven't seen many of Wes Anderson's films - this is always the one that comes to my mind whenever he's mentioned.
@dannybob426 жыл бұрын
The film is certainly an acquired taste, there’s bits I like about the film and things I just feel meh about, I cannot show disrespect for stop-motion especially at this detail. I’m not much of an Anderson fan, I’ve only watched this and Grand Budapest Hotel, but I can see that he has his style nonetheless Might not be Anderson, but give Rango a try, the fact that the actors acted the scenes and the devs cgi the same movements is seamless, and it’s a great Western plot.

Absolutely fantastic video. It's tough for me to pick a favorite Wes Anderson film, but I'd put Fantastic Mr. Fox as #1 just ahead of the Grand Budapest Hotel. As amazing as Ralph Fienees performance was, I think George Clooney's is just so damn charming. This one just makes me smile and laugh a bit more than the other Wes Anderson films. I also agree that the Life Aquatic was my least favorite, but still good.

Before this video, I've always considered the wolf scene at the end representing how Mr. Fox has overcome his fears after nearly getting killed on numerous times. However, the way you saw (or potentially better yet how Wes Anderson wanted me to see it as) it made me realize I was kinda wrong. Mr. Fox has a wolf "phobia" because he's afraid he won't reach that level of wild animalness he had in his youth. He isn't afraid anymore because he realizes his family is more important. That statement was basically already said in the video, but I thank you Lee letting me realize the deeper meaning in an already awesome film.

I absolutely LOVE this film. Like pretty much every kid raised in the UK, I read a lot of Roald Dahl as a kid, and I thought it was a really great adaptation. The self-awareness of the film style (aka stop motion) was hilarious. The fact they filmed the actors on location so the sound was right is a really innovative (and NOT easy) way of making the film. The fact they tried to make Mr Fox's house full of actual furniture and objects from Roald Dahl's house is an homage they didn't need to do, but it's beautiful that they did. And the attention. To detail. My god. I've never seen more beautiful stop motion animation.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but I noticed in the clip of Mr. Fox's big speech that his expression is a really intimidating, wide grin with practically all his teeth clenched and visible. Which I thought was cool because that's what most mammals (aside from humans) do when they're trying to threaten or intimidate other animals: They "smile" and show their teeth. It seems to fit the whole "man or beast" theme that seems to be going on, judging from some bits in this review. Mr. Fox is a very humanlike animal, but he's still an animal, and you can tell when his anger comes out.
