Never before have I been so terrified by a game as I was when Henry discovered his and Delilah's conversations were being listened to, as well as Ned being in the lookout tower. That sense of having no security, no privacy, no safety is more terrifying than most horror games
@sapphirewingthefurrycritic9853 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's pretty much why a lot of horror is in isolated places like out in the woods. There's pretty much no security out there from anything, animals, weather, or other people. It's why you ALWAYS need to bring some form of defense while out there, whether its a gun, a big ass knife or even just bear spray. I'm pretty sure its why rangers carry guns with them, you never know when an aggressive animal or a poacher is going to come out of nowhere and kill you.

For me it's the whole "summer vacation" feeling, where you get to meet amazing people that you'll never see again. This game NAILED these emotions, and it's a fucking masterpiece because of it.

This is the Win of this game for me. The Win is the discovery of Brian's corpse, which you left out. Throughout the entire game, we were engaged on an adventure, uncovering a supposed mysterious conspiracy. We expected something strange and grandeur when we traverse in the cave. So seeing Brian's decayed corpse setting up the plot twist and the expectation subversion. It hits us like a truck, that the moment we expect one thing, it's something else, and it pull us back to that simplistic, but brutal truth and reality.

I saw a bunch of people complain about how unfulfilling this game is and I'm glad to hear someone talk about the positives. And while at the moment I was so disappointed that I didn't get to meet Delilah in the game I'm glad that they decided to have her leave without a goodbye in person. It was true to her personality and really hit a nail in the coffin to the tone of longing that I felt by the end. And all that character and development put into her room? Beautiful. Anyways, great review. You got a new subscriber.

I greatly appreciate it! If i had my way with the game, i would've removed any pictures of anyone put the ones of Henry. So you truly don't know what anyone looks like and continue that theme of isolation. Even Brian's head can't be seen when you view his body, but you find a picture of him later. I don't know why, but I feel it would've been even more impactful. Especially considering your one picture with Julia has her face covered by a white flash.

I have watched this so many times. because this 16 min video allows me to re-live everything I love about this 5 hour game that truly was an emotional and beautiful masterpiece of gaming as a whole. and this also encapsulates all of my thoughts and feelings precisely, so to see others found this game as beautiful as I did makes me love it all the more!

Theres some hidden dialogue here that I feel is important. When the June/flapjack fire first comes out, if you stare at Delilahs watchtower while choosing that option there is some extra dialogue that can be said that is fairly flirty. The other thing too that should have been mentioned is that Henry's ring comes off a small bit into the playthrough and you as the player can choose weather or not to put it back on. You also choose weather to keep your ring and picture of you and julia when its to to evac or leave them a burning memory. And finally if you choose the dialogue option that makes Henry talk about how he doesnt think any of this is real and that hes loosing his mind, Delilah actually calls him sweetheart wich I think shows that she really cares about him and probably feels a little bad after lying to him about everything.

I just finished this game and I absolutely loved it. By far my favourite part is the fact that Henry and Delilah will probably never speak again. There is something so real about that conclusion, sometimes you just lose touch.

I absolutely loved this game... and while I didn’t really take issue with how things unfolded, it’s hard to deny that it’s a little underwhelming... and not because it’s inherently underwhelming, because it isn’t. What makes things feel a little underwhelming is that the game sets up a couple things and then doesn’t pay it off in a way that feels worth the time dedicated to it... and it feels like the mystery of what could have been was far more interesting than the reality of what was. And maybe that was done intentionally, but it’s never a good idea to introduce themes or ideas into your story and not pay them off. It hampers the momentum. So... just imagine you start a story off like this: *“The sky flashed before a thundering boom and accompanying sonic blast permeated the night air. A most began to arise from the crater, a noxious cloud of gas stretched its tendril-like plumes towards my nostrils. This reminds me of death. The reminds me of the hereafter.”* Then out of the blue: *”But upon further inspection I can see due to high winds, the bulb has fallen out of the street lamp, and the noxious cloud is just powdered moth carcasses and fluorescent powder...” Do you see what I mean? Sure it’s an answer, but it doesn’t uphold the gravity of the set up. That’s how most of f Firewatches plot points end up panning out. But I think that’s fine… Because it’s true to life. Even if it makes for a less than fulfilling narrative

Firewatch is a really special game to me! Since I never had the opportunity to play it (I'm planning on it, buying it and playing on my PS5 once it arrives) I always watched playthroughs on KZbin. I fell in love with the game, it's unique visuals, the characters, the story and the dialogue, the music!!! I loved how it's always a bit different depending on from who I watch. I love that whenever I stumble upon the soundtrack on YT, I always close my eyes, see the beautiful wilderness of Wyoming, even get memories of the talks Henry and Delilah had. Also, I feel the soundtrack is amazing, but only listening to it don't really make me feel the way like when I see the red pine trees in the distance, the howling of the breeze...but in the game, with the whole package, it can free my mind from everything! Firewatch is the one and only game I watch through every single year, at the start of the summer, because that's when I first watched it, and I can't help but get this vibe, this emotional state that carries me through each summer! Firewatch is truly a masterpiece, and it will always be an important part of me, so much so, that I'm sure I didn't describe the game as good as I feel about it!

Hello, a year has passed. And I bought Firewatch! Yeah, just before Christmas. You know, I feel a bit guilty. I bought this amazing game, this wonderful experience for 65% off online. I wanted to buy the physical copy, but I just couldn't find it anywhere, so I bought it through the PS Store. This game, at least for me worth so much more than 5 dollars, and I couldn't pay more for it! That's not something you hear everyday: I wanted to pay more for a game! I played through the story twice already: first time I fully went the nice choices, second time I fully embraced Henry's past to make things worse for him, and I didn't talk that much with Delilah. And it's a different experience. This is a 2016 game! And it took me 5 years to realize that if Henry make bad choices regarding Julia, it's so much more guilty to play as him. He became an alcoholic, and he even put a chair in front of Julia's door so she couldn't escape when having an episode... And it felt so sad and bad to make those choices... Then I played the audio tour, and it was like a museum! I got to hear why things are like that in the game, heard about things I didn't even know! And for me, that was very fascinating, to learn more about the game. It is still one of my favorite games of all time. I love this game sooo much, and this 5 bucks were the best money I have ever spent on a game. And still, I still think it deserves more! We live in a time where games cost 70 dollars. And that's stupid. But if I think about it, and I think about what experiences I could gain from just this game, not having two playthroughs being the same ever.... I'm crazy enough that I would really consider buying Firewatch at that price. For me, 50 bucks for this would be a no-brainer, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. So yeah, it is still really special to me, 6 years on...

I absolutely loved this game. The first half is just an insight into caricatures of normal people, the visuals were absolutely killer and the soundtrack was beautiful. Then the second half is a thriller where you’re investigating what feels like a conspiracy murder mystery, finding clues and beating the ticking clock of the wildfire. Great game, will always cherish it

I watched a KZbin play it back in 2016, but I actually did my own run just this past week. That ending with Delilah leaving still gets me. I don’t hate it, I just don’t like the idea of losing contact with someone or people missing the other person by such a small window of error. And I guess I project those feelings onto Henry. I also really don’t like the possible ending of Henry being left behind (yes that’s an actual ending, if you wait long enough, the helicopter leaves without you.

Spoilers for some key plot points in the games mystery, and the design around an interesting side mechanic in the game: After the amazing dialogue and the beautiful visuals, one of my favourite features of the game was the design around Brian’s camera. Some of my favourite games are those where the player gets to creatively express themselves in any type of way. Fora long list of examples this appears in stuff like creativity focused games directed towards art or building, stuff with a variety of strategies, expressive and varied combat in a fighter, games where a player could have any approach to a challenge (such as in a platformer or immersive sim), or stuff with more casual creativity such as any skateboarding. Firewatch’s camera is introduced as an optional tool with little affect on the plot with some comments on it in the dialogue. Players can use it to make little works of art in the game with photos taken of the beautiful environments or the very well designed spaces such as in Henry’s tower. Any of these could easily be taken as a screenshot, but I found myself using the in game camera and enjoying it. It’s also a very well designed limited mechanic, with the limited amount of film left in the camera giving you around 16 photos, making each moment you use the camera special and one you are present in to get the right photo, and make an effort to take good pictures without wasting your limited opportunities. And then as the mystery unfolds, I found myself playing as Henry shifting from using the camera to take nice photos to documenting the unraveling narrative and eventually everything around Ned and Brian’s body. And then, as the credits roll, you get to see your photos followed by the heartbreaking pictures of the first few photos taken, end see Brian’s face

I 100% agree, this game is beautiful in every way, and I say that as someone who typically likes the more action adventure type games, and honestly for 20 dollars this game is a steal I think they could charge 100 and you would still get more than your money’s worth, and it’s also quite available too.

there is a small detail that you missed: on the final day, before leaving your tower you get to choose whether to put your wedding ring on before presumably meeting Delilah in person for the first time. I believe that means that you get to choose which woman matters more to you: Julia or Delilah. Considering the way that the relationship between Henry and Delilah developed, this small detail hit home for me. I literally looked at the option to put the ring on for five minutes, and I thought if I were Henry what would I do? I still don't know the answer to this day. What do you guys think?
@R4tti Жыл бұрын
1 year without a reply to a good question is too long. Hopefully you see this… haven’t played the game in forever but I believe I chose to keep the ring on because I knew if I were Henry I’d feel bad trying to act like I wasn’t going to have to go back to Julia at some point. Wasn’t so much picking a girl as much as honoring the relationship. Even though I remember flirting a little bit with Delilah. Lol

Why people make this weird assumption that Henry will never talk to her again, I have no idea. Everything else in the story feels so real, but then people insist on going this romantic trope of "love never to be realised". These two have spent months with only each other. No, scratch that: with only each other's VOICES. There is no way they'll never speak again. Maybe they'll be long distance friends. Maybe they'll meet every other day for coffee. Maybe they'll fall in love and try to build something together. We don't know, but the possibilities are endless.

I just finish play it. I miss out one burn run down grandma witch alike house damn. I couldn't agree more. Music seriously a movement aspect to the game scenery . This game at least deserve to be 40 bucks or so. It just like top tier art but interactable and enjoyable more thoroughly. I wish they actually consider make that camera film more then 20 I think or 24. I just exhaust the f out it to capture important pic from the sun down canyon to evidence stuffs . I really teared when Henry deliver the bad news and the reaction from Delilah. Its unfortune for a kid like him to die . He didnt even like hiking . Basicly worse way to die. I bet Brian dont blame his dad and forgive him. I still not convince how the expensive gear at that wapiti station under use of brian and ned. The gov inclusion... The gov just abandoned the gear? Yeah idk still a mystery. As for Delilah... Idk I still dont trust her even she a lovely person. I end up with go both pathway. sugguest delilah to a place and bla bla while Henry go back to Julia. Loyalty no?

I still think the ending could be improved, at least have multiple endings, the game is about a lot of choice, but ultimately your choices dont change a single thing by the end, there should be at least 2 endings, a hopeful return to your wife, or face reality and hope for something with Delilah, both can be happy endings, shaped by your own choices
