"I know who you are boy, because you're me!" "Until everything is me." This shows the different perspectives of Yondu and Ego right there. Yondu sees himself in others, while Ego wants to force everything to be like him. It's someone who lives for and within the universe versus one who just wants to control it, a feeling person versus a utilitarian who just uses people. Quite powerful, and only just noticed it.

Piggybacking on your remark, but it's worth noting that Yondu is dissatisfied by the reflection he sees of himself in others, recognizing the flaws he shares with them and clearly understanding those flaws have harmed both himself and those he is/was close to. I would add an extra win for when Peter says "what's so wrong with that?" Mainly because it highlights exactly what it is that makes heroes of the MCU so brilliant. It's not the abilities or suits or magic powers or whatever - it's being decent people who stand up and do what's right when other people can't. Peter is a good person and does what he can to save people, flawed as he is, and doesn't need powers to do so. Because he's just like everybody else, and that's awesome.

After we left the theatre, we sat in the parking lot for a minute. I asked if I could take a minute before we left, so I took out my phone and called my stepfather and told him through tears how much I loved and respected him. She's encouraging Peter to give his dad a chance and see if he can really have the relationship he never had, but also recognizes that things aren't always as they seem, people will lie to try to get things out of you, and they have no qualms about killing people who cross them. It's simultaneously both very sweet and earnest but also hard and ruthless. The Guardians definitely exist in a moral gray area.

ThePopbanks007 Nope, Groot belongs to a race known as Species X. They are incredibly reclusive and mainly stick to themselves, they pretty much stay on their planet until they grow old and die, with Groot being one of the incredibly few exceptions, and they have a symbiotic relationship with the species that Rocket belongs to. Not earth raccoons, space raccoons that are sentient. Stupid, but it’s Marvel so they get a pass. Species X are barely documented, because they are literally living trees, and anyone who has visited their planet have not actually realized that the forests are alive. Literally every member of Species X utters the phrase "I am Groot." Every. Single. One. It’s not unique to Groot, it’s unique to Species X. However prolonged contact apparently allows the person to slowly understand what is being said, Rocket knows because he’s been with Groot for years, Star Lord and the others were around Groot for years and eventually learned to understand as well. Presumably the language would be added to an intergalactic language database at that point, and it is in Guardians of the Galaxy comics where it’s been over fifty years since Star Lord's Guardian group was formed. However, for the most part, the language is pretty much understood by very few members of different species.

Here's a thing, Gamora and Nebula both grew up as 'Children of Thanos' a 'father' who regularly pitted his 'children' against eachother, ensuring that they saw their siblings only as rivals. In such conditions, sharing ones inner feelings with _anyone_ would be alien and unwelcome, indeed, Gamora is so unused to any overture of friendship in GOTG 1 that she reacts to Peter dancing with her with anger... born of fear. Her willingness to give Peter and Ego the chance to be Father and Son in spite of her suspicions, shows how much she cares for Peter and then absenting herself to the hinterlands because it would actually be painful to see Peter experience a loving father, given that was something she would never have. She, in turn, is then confronted by Nebula, who was cybernetically enhanced by Thanos every time she lost a sparring match to Gamora, I'm guessing painfully, who then reveals all that Nebula ever really wanted was... family. While there are intimate moments between Gamora and Groot, Peter and Nebula, all of them happen in isolation with no onlookers, in any group situation, Gamora is all business, so her reaction to Mantis potentially putting her feelings on show is not unexpected. Not to mention that Gamora is learning restraint, she only threatened to break Mantis's jaw, not cut her head off.

Drax may not have gotten as much character development as the others, but there are two types of development: one where the character changes, and one where the audience's perception of the character changes. The scene with Mantis reading his emotions and being overcome with sobbing while he sits there staring at the pools has stuck with me for years, as one of the most perfect illustrations of deep pain beneath an unassuming surface and a beautiful sequence of someone understanding another's pain.

My small problem was the completely tone changing jokes that came after a really dramatic or sad scene, like something sad or bad or dramatic happens and you're really feeling it (they accomplished that, ugh) and then there comes Rocket with a funny (I'll give you that too) comment or something to say that completely pulls you out of your sort of sadness and go "oh haha yeah right oh rip wait what haha?", that really irritated me, but otherwise I also loved it, I really did. After another viewing of this movie, something occurred to me that I hadn't thought of before. Ego is the 'Light' at the center of the planet and he told Peter that as long as the light exists so does Peter and that is not true. Peter is his own light. A new life from Ego and his mother. Because of this, his power is made manifest when he held the Infinity Stone, which had nothing to do with the 'Light' of Ego. This is why Ego needed Peter as a companion battery for his expansion but the reverse was never true. Ego needs Peter, but Peter never needed Ego beyond conception. It's also why the 'Hear' or 'Light' of Peter so easily found and used that power very quickly as Egos' understanding of his power was always academic whereas Peter is both brain and his compassion, something that Ego could never comprehend. I'm probably making no sense, but I wanted to put it out there just in case.

This is one of the main reasons I really like this channel (the end analysis). O live a lot CS, and I'm sure I would like CW as much, if it was only the "wins". But the end analysis, the lack of 'fear of trolls' and even the 'I don't care, it's what I think' attitude that keep me coming here. I love when he talks about the music as well, because that's something I always try to pay attention to (sometimes the visuals take over, I admit). In the end, it's like CW is more than the opposite of CS. People might think it's only 'a copy in the other direction', but if you stop and listen to what he says, you'll see that he really understand the movies. And it's always a win, right?

I'm honestly shocked at the somewhat disappointed reception this film had with many fans. It's better directed, with better cinematography, a better score, better constructed action and most importantly - it's FAR more layered and thematically rich than the first film. Vol .2 says so much about parental and familiar strife, abuse and growth that I discover something new every time I see it. The first may be more streamlined on a narrative level, but that's its only upside over Vol. 2 imo. And I adore Vol. 1. The overuse of humor in the MCU is one of my biggest issues with it, and many people cite this film as one of the worst examples of intrusive humor....and when I first saw it I had the same problem. But aside a couple of dud gags here and there I feel that Gunn's humor is easily the most organic and natural to the material since the days of Favreau and Whedon. Most other overly funny MCU films simply feel like they are imitating either Favreau, Whedon or Gunn. Or all three. And it ALWAYS falls flat imo. Lesser MCU directors try and conform the film around the "house style" MCU humor while Gunn forms the humor around the film. The humor IS Gunn. Upon further viewing,, the humor doesn't stick out NEARLY as much as it did in the theater. I think at the time my tolerance for jokes in the MCU had been wearing thin, and I was hyper aware of it, looking for it to bother me instead of letting the film simply wash over me. While not hated by any means, I think Vol. 2 is pretty underrated and I hope fans come around to it more over time. Also, props for this being one of the only MCU films with a genuinely great villain.

Absolutely the amazing continuity they created between all the films is impressive, personally I like Guardians and Avengers the most but I think that's common but with all they have accomplished cinematically they definitely deserve a bit of gloating

Making a good movie is hard, and making a good sequel is even harder. What Marvel did requires godly amounts of persistence, time, and sheer ability. They set up their massive universe bit by bit, then put it all together with the Avengers. Then they continued to make more and more movies, and in just under a decade, they produced a universe as expansive and interconnected as our own. They used hundreds of actors, dozens of writers, and even several different composers to bring it all to life. They deserve to boast about this insane accomplishment.

Fun fact: From what I've heard, while they did animate Kurt Russell's face a little to make him look younger, most of the work was actually done from make-up. Another parallel I enjoy between Yondu and Rocket is that both of them stole 'batteries.' Rocket stole the Arbulary batteries in the film's prologue while Yondu kept kidnapping potential batteries for Ego. Even Ego tells Peter that he would use him as a battery once Peter disagrees to help.

Patrick Mahoney it's anulax battery, but still an "OK" for Drax. LOL
@movierates2477 жыл бұрын
Patrick Mahoney actually this was done with mostly CGI. Despite Kurt Russel stating it was done mostly with make up people that worked on the final product stated it was edited from by frame with cgi.

Aaron Schwartz was the body double for Young Ego. They had Russell's skin digitally added onto Schwartz' face.

Remembered watching this scene for the first time in the theatre and thought to myself:” Yeap, this is the saddest scene in the MCU.” Fast forward to now and it still is. Yondu died doing what was right, saving his kid.

Also to note is how Ego's ship looks a bit like a skull from the back as it goes towards his planet. Big white skull with glowing yellow eyes and mouth

I also feel that the ship needs a tail. When the ship is arriving at Ego's planet (self?), it looks like fertilization.

I also think that Peter will still have his powers to some extent in the next movies. And it's not because I think that Ego was lying to him. Ego left parts of himself all over the Galaxy in the plants he was going to use in the expansion. The purpose of the plants was to essentially turn everything into himself just like the planet Ego. Just because that part of Ego died doesn't mean that there aren't other parts of him still left for Peter to possibly tap into.
