Can't "Blame" the Tampa Bay Lightning for playing "Within" the rules in regards to the unfair cap advantages, This is the Leagues fault. Can't "Blame" the Montreal Canadiens for playing "Within" the rules in regards to Mailloux, This is again the Leagues fault. Bergevin knew picking him would be a fuck you to the league, even if he was averaged to be picked at 35 which was left out of the video, Canadiens only picked him a few spots ahead. From a media/Life perspective, Austin Matthews is a great example of how a player can have a mistake in their history and still play in the NHL. I'd even argue that pulling your pants down in public while harassing a woman in her car takes a lot more effort to reach that destination, than it does to send pics from ur phone. I am not condoning any of these actions, just stating a valid point. Lets focus the energy where it needs to be focused though people, The League itself. They certainly have a ton of past and current issues all around them and yet nobody wants to talk about how many billions of dollars they are pocketing each year the cap is frozen since just signing the new TV deals. Should be a lot more angry fans that they are purposefully hurting the product of hockey on the ice to pad their pockets during a pandemic. Oh you poor babies, only made 5 billion instead of 7 billion, but will make 7+ with fans back in this next year and every year its flat is a fuck you to the fans and players. The cap was supposed to be north of 100 million year 2 of the new TV deal, as reported just before covid.
@voinyhelvetti3 жыл бұрын
If Bergevin thought that it would be just a 'fuck you' to the league *only* , he needs to have a real hard think. Your point is just whataboutism about Matthews and the Leafs, or how the league is giving the fans a middle finger by making money, and nothing about *how* this is the League's fault and *not* the Canadiens' other than "they were allowed to pick him by the rules". Nobody is claiming that Bergevin broke the rules of the draft. Then you go on to speak about how the league is fucking us the fans when it comes to frozen cap and revenue which has absolutely nothing to do with the Mailloux situation.
@MrWastedtalent343 жыл бұрын
@@voinyhelvetti your ability to grasp context in text is atrocious. I very clearly state that it doesn't fucking matter what Mailloux did, he's still gonna be an NHL player. Matthews was my example at someone who has done something that should be on their permanent record if he was a normal person, yet still plays in the NHL. Tons of people are claiming Bergevin "broke the rules" because Mailloux removed himself from the draft. Which has no effect on the actual drafting process since ONLY THE LEAGUE can remove him from the drafting process. Its so hard to be nice on the internet when dumbasss like you don't know how to read, and think your opinion of someone elses opinion is a valuable add. Guess what jack ass, your opinion is not a valuable add to another persons opinion, Matthews situation is terrible, There is 0 things to talk about in regards to mailloux, he's on his path to be in the NHL now his incident is behind him already, just like Matthews incident was gone from the media after only 2 days in the media. The biggest issue the league has, is exploiting Billions in profits during a global pandemic which is why I can so easily change the subject, after a new teams 650 mill buy in, after 2 new TV deals that the signing cost of those contracts - literally eliminate all of the "money they didn't make" gap that they were projected to make pre-covid. I'm just 1 fan, but I won't be giving any money to the NHL going forward in the future until they finally make right all the wrong they've been caught doing , past and present. Flat cap hurts every team in the league, just for owners to pocket a couple extra billion for themselves each year the cap is flat. So yes, EVERY fan of EVERY team should be pissed off AT the LEAGUE, not specific players or only a handful of teams, ALL Owners are guilty.

@MrWastedtalent343 жыл бұрын
@@voinyhelvetti Do you blame the Tampa Bay lightning GM for Tampa abusing their cap advantages? No, and why should you right? Its not any single teams fault for drafting any available player. It was the Leagues responsibility to remove Mailloux from draft eligibility and they clearly didn't feel what he did warranted that or they would have. It relates to Tampa because it is just another thing THE LEAGUE as a whole is doing nothing about. Its not a tone deaf pick at all for Bergevin to follow the rules and pick the player that helps improve his team. There is a risk to every pick, Would he have chose to risk it on a different player if the league did something about tampa exploiting cap advantages, he likely makes a different pick if the last couple years went differently. For one, Tampa abusing the cap had no specific victim, where as what Mailloux did had one and Montreal drafting him does send a signal that it's fine, which is what I'm blaming Bergevin and the Canadiens for. Players are supposed to be hockey heroes with decency and wholesomeness, not assholes. I could understand taking him in a later round but the first pick is about hope, pride and prestige. This is honestly equally as bad if not worst then last years Arizona 4th rounder. Character matters more then only there ability to play this game. In hockey you need 23 players that believe in each other and are dedicated to 1 goal, plus this is the team that moved on from guys like subban and galchenyuk over the wrong impact on the dressing room. This is nowhere near the Coyotes drafting Mitchell Miller. Miller showed no remorse at all for what he did and the only reason he ever put out an half-ass apology is because he didn't think it would resurface years later when the Coyotes drafted him. Its a case of he was sorry he was caught, not for what he did. Mailloux seems genuinely sorry for what he did and told the NHL not to draft him. The OHL didn't wait around for Montreal, they suspended him immediately. The Habs are pretty much banking on the high risk that he's actually really good and made a stupid teenaged mistake that won't happen again. As long as he doesn't drive a car while drunk into a tree or starts going after women without consent, this probably will go away in a few years when he's in his early 20's.

And why does this 17-year-old kid not deserve a chance to become a better person and perhaps make amends for his actions? 2) The Habs are drafting him for his potential as a hockey player...for what he can do ON THE ICE. Several other teams were considering taking Mailloux in the 2nd round so don't call out Bergevin for taking this calculated risk, and possibly outfoxing several other GMs.

Point is, it was the canadiens that got a hold of him, but odds are it could’ve been almost any other team. I was a big fan of Bergevin, seeing him swindle in order to keep Price and Allen after the exciting run, looking at his trade history, how few he actually lost despite leaving everyone scratching their heads. But there are red flags popping up everywhere, from concerning moves at the trade deadline which appear to have been aimed at taking on DeAngelo, to potential involvement in Chicago scandal, and now this. I have a hard time believing he looks at his job through a moral lens. He tries to make the team better, he's not there to look like an angel. That's not what I believe hockey should be about, because at the end of the day, it's just a game, meaning it comes second to doing what's right. After recent highs, it's hard to say, but I don't think I want Bergevin to renew his contract. I don't think Mailloux is necessarily deserving to have all opportunities lost to him, but he needs to have demonstrated serious growth first. And the words "demonstrated serious growth" are doing a TON of heavy lifting. I doubt Molson didn't sign off on such a controversial move and the man has money to help victims of such crimes and hope he invests in them as well as this specific case to better Mailloux and ensure the victim is better off
