As someone who's been a dedicated vintage and secondhand clothing store fiend since the 1990s, I totally concur with your general opinion that Tokyo is really not great for 'thrifting'. What it IS great for is highest quality, rare, unusual and beautiful things that you cannot find anywhere else. Prepare to pay but prepare to be utterly thrilled by the selection of goods. La Foret is terrific for shopping, for example, and there are so many indie designers to discover in Tokyo-- but there are no 'bargains' as such. Once people wrap their heads around this, the shopping experience totally changes, don't you find? PS= Nakano Broadway has so many stores selling ultra quirky second hand and vintage figurines and rare gachapon items, you just need the patience to trawl through the chaotic shelves and displays to spot the one laugh out loud brilliant figurine. Now that's where you'll find genuine bargains. I love seeing what people buy when holidaying in Japan. I never get bored of these sorts of videos. I loved your Calcifer purse.

thank you!! Nobody talks about the very curated hipster thrift stores here. I only buy at the thrift store if I find something I really love. and it’s not always cheap.

Japan IS good for "thrifting" and vintage shopping, most people go to the hipster ones in Japan that look like "thrift" stores in America, and hence only experience those high price shops instead of looking for Japanese resell shops that are selling Japanese and international brand clothes. And then actual thrift shops like donate shops are harder to find in tourist zones but def have gems.
