I worked on a farm picking carrots and packing onions in Victoria. The treatment of backpackers is horrific, especially the non English speaking workers/travellers. 40C days in fields with no shade, then fire who they want, whenever they want. Aussies love having a high opinion of themselves, but honestly some of the biggest knobends ive ever met are Aussie farmers. I remember the wage for packing the onions was literally $2/hr. I did one days work before i found out the rate and quit instantly, but plently of backpackers remained. Don't take any shit off them, know your worth, be safe and have a good time!

I call BS to the wages of $2 an hour!! The minimum wage in Australia is $24.10 an hour.....just over $900 a week if you do 38hrs. As for treatment, yep you definitely find jerks everywhere sadly and in her case obviously doing a lot of dodgy things. 😜
@tomp46842 ай бұрын
@@gdaygday1209 You can call it all day long, obviously haven't experienced any of this. Besides the mininium wage doesn't exist when it's cash in hand alot of the time. I've worked on other farms for $15/hr cash. I knew these Afghanis (bloody good workers too), on a grape farm, busting their balls for $8/hr cash. With regards to the aforementioned farm I earned $20/hr for the work picking the carrots, but the wage for bagging the onions was $2/hr. Clear as day on my payslips for that particular farm.

$2/hr is an absolute lie. if they were really somehow manageing to pay anyone like that and you found out about it and did nothing then you're a PoS. but in the same vain, it's total bs because someone would of found out like how you did and reported them long ago. it's simply not possible.

As an Australian I am embarrassed of what you have gone through just to get a visa, I had heard the stories before but I had no idea it was this bad in the farms, I think in a capitalist society people will try to get away with whatever they can to increase their bottom line but it falls to the government to properly police laws and regulations. I love your videos and I hope you have more positive experiences in Australia. Namaste sis 🙏

The problem isnt capitalism, the problem is the australian government puts a condition on working visas that you have to work 3months in regional victoria on a farm to stay a further year. Its because australians wont go work on farms.
@user-gi7ky1rf4i3 ай бұрын
@@ScreenHackTV Australians don't want to work these jobs, and who could blame them? The stuff you hear about from the media is frightening. It is possible to employ workers on a farm and also not act like a complete and utter cunt to your staff. @user-gi7ky1rf4i the reason why they made this visa policy is because Australian won't work in farming. This is such a shameful scam. I know someone living in a single room in Morayfield with three other people, all working on a farm. Every inspectjom they had to hide three of the four mattresses. The whole housing setup was run by a man who isn't even from Australia, renting out multiple properties and exploiting workers by charging $200 per week x 8. They were expected to pick a set weight of produce, but in the end, they barely earned anything. It’s appalling. I absolutely hate this kind of exploitation.

This actually sounds like the farm I worked on. They own multiple properties and rent them all out for $200 per week, housing up to 10 people per apartment. I was lucky with the apartment I stayed in because we were 6 people. When I visited my friend’s apartment from the same farm the conditions were even worse. 3-4 mattresses in one tiny room and way too many people in one house. Truly shocking :(

I was a backpacker supervisor at a farm for many years, i knew the dodgy stuff that the owners would try to pull and always made sure the backpackers were looked after. Picking packing is tough work, thats why they can't get aussies to do it. I worked the paddocks for years before i became a supervisor and I'd never ask of anyone anything i wasn't ready to get in and do myself. My crew was always paid properly i made sure of it. Unfortunately your experience is typical. I met so many amazing people from all over the world and farmwork gave me those friendships and the ability to travel abroad. As much as i disagree with some of the practices, i can't help but thank the farm industry for giving me some of most memorable experiences of my life with the most memorable people. I know you said minimum wage but that can change based on the work apparently and it would be good to hear what you actually got paid (and how much they expected sent back too). Hopefully with vlogging experiences like this more attention will be given to this obvious exploitation. Good luck with your next job, hope it is much better. Pasta looked delicious!

And what do you think your typical Aussie can do here? It's not something we vote on - it's not even on the political agenda. Most Aussies are trying to get by with a cost of living crisis. It's up to the authorities and the backpackers themselves to deal with this. If you want to come live in this beautiful country, you either need to get an education (i.e, university), or try do risky things such as this. I know I would never do such things no matter how much I want to move to a particular country.
@JimsimiАй бұрын
@shootinputin6332 You give enough of a damn to find out what farms do this, who they supply, and boycott their product. Further than that, you can be outraged when you hear about exploitation since it brings shame and demand that the media covers these stories to bring attention to it. It's not that hard, cost of living is rougher now for sure but it's still a country where the majority of people live very comfortably so can't pretend that things are so hard here nobody has time to be aware of a bad company and avoid their products, or make social media posts like the one you made to me to their local politicians or media outlets asking for coverage and action on this exploitation that makes the whole country look bad. Uber and doordash pay well below min wage to their workers exploiting people with no other choice, aussie businesses still use them exporting the exploition, if you use them as a customer or business you're supporting it, simple as that.

Having only 30 minutes worth of breaks for a whole 12 hour shift isn’t even allowed under typical circumstances here in nsw. Yeah unfortunately 😬 12 hours 7 days a week

I've had English friends working on fruit picking in Victoria and they told similar stories, working 10- or 12-hour days in poor conditions for inadequate money. Frankly, I think it's nothing more than a gigantic scam - workers are desperate for visas or visa extensions, the employers rob them blind and the government turns a blind eye. It doesn't help that the farmers themselves are being squeezed dry by constant pressure from the supermarket duopoly. Essentially, foreign workers are funding corporate profits and salaries and cheaper prices at the checkout (though even they are not that cheap anymore). Sadly, Australia is not the fair and egalitarian place it once was.

According to Australian workplace laws, im pretty sure you are entitled to at least 30min unpaid and 15 mins paid break when working a 10 hr shift.

This is horrible, never thought this was going on in this country but i do want to mention that not everywhere is like that. I worked at a strawberry farm near Caboolture and got paid well, the supervisors were nice and chatty and the work life was fine, sure, it gets hot in the summer but they always provided shade, hats, sunscreen and spring water and we could take a small break when ever wee felt like it just as long as our work gets done on time.
@BegibouАй бұрын
Omg you were provided all of that?? Seems like I was just really unlucky with the farm I worked on 🥲

As an Australian I am sorry to hear how you are being treated at your jobs. This all sounds highly illegal! Is there a way you can get your RSA certificate and get jobs in bars and pubs?

I've heard so many horror stories about working in these places. Exploitation of work and also sexual harrassment of women. First time seeing a video of a person talking about it on video. It's has opened my eyes to the work that migrant workers do at these farms so we can enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables and I have more respect for migrants workers. I'm also a migrants, but I came to Australia as a teenager with my family so I didn't have to deal with this sort of stuff. I suspect a lot of these farmers are racist or just anti immigration so they take it out on the workers. It also doesn't help that big multi billion dollar supermarket corporations undercut their produce.

Thank you for your comment 🥹 exploitation and sh is really common. I experienced both and watched my friends go through the same thing. Hope it gets better one day!

It still amazes me that we have a program like this in Australia. My old house mate is Canadian and he worked on a farm for 3 months and hated it. Then at the end of it he found out the guy had no money so he never got paid. It's so unregulated and it shouldn't exist in this state in a first world country.
@Begibou3 ай бұрын
That is shocking to hear, holy moly. Not getting paid for 3 months of work is another level. I hope he is doing alright now!! 🥺

Why did you decide to leave Germany? I am an Australian but wouldn't mind living in Germany. Quality healthcare system and free education
@BegibouАй бұрын
When you only have a couple of really warm months and the rest of the year is cold, wet and dark and everyone is annoyed by it, it really crawls up on you. Apart from that, the government neglects its citizens and cares more about taking up millions of refugees, hands them in money, free housing and let’s them get away with everything. Everyone’s taking advantage of the government and nobody really cares about their own country anymore. Extremists that attack and harass our police on a daily basis. Half of the people have never been integrated properly and force their religious beliefs on us, demanding our government to change for them. I agree with the free education being a plus. But on the other hand, you don’t earn a lot of money and everything is expensive. The imagine that people have of Germany used to be the reality, but it has changed so much :(

Working 12 hours outdoors on a farm field is absolutely insane! It shouldn’t even be legally allowed as it is really back breaking work. 15 minutes LUNCH break?!!! Should be getting at least 40 minutes lunch break plus 15 minutes breaks every two hours paid!!! Unbelievable what they can get away with 🤬

The moment i saw you bending over to pick the strawberries i thought, my back would be DEAD by the end of the shift. Also, every so often it makes the news about how backpackers are being exploited by dodgy farms. I would have thought it would be fixed by now 😞
@BegibouАй бұрын
My back was pretty wrecked by the end of it. I couldn’t walk and bend for a couple of days and every single movement hurt 😂 me and my friends gave each other 5 min massages which helped. And yes unfortunately the exploiting is still very common :(

When you put tea three oil on your pimple and covered it with a piece of tissue, how did you manage to get the tissue to stick on your face??

You have to use a really thin and small piece of tissue, I usually take one layer of toilet paper and then it will automatically stick to the tea tree oil

This is beyond shocking and humiliating. City slickers Aussie have no idea what goes in an outback farms. This is a modern day slavery and very embarrassing for Australia who praised itself being a democratic egalitarian country. I am appalled to find that Aussie government have not done anything despite those multiple reports to fair work Australia. Thank you for sharing your painful struggle,I am so sorry that you went through that. I feel so helpless knowing that there are so many backpackers going through those ordeal in an Aussie farms. You know, all customers should boycott those strawberries.
@MysteryASMR7773 ай бұрын
I hope you found some other work cause it’s too hot to be working out there at the moment for a fair German lass. At least reapply some sunscreen cause the sun here is a killer quite practically.

we refuse to hire backpackers, they come and go when they want and are super un-reliable, one day they are working next they just up and leave.

I worked at a strawberry farm in morayfield not sure if it is the same farm you’re at but I couldn’t handle the long hours of physical labour and wasn’t “fast enough” I am a small girl myself I can feel the back pain watching you on the trolley, the weeding days were the WORST. at the farm I was at it was family owned and they were racist as hell, I remember the owner screaming at the Koreans “I DONT SPEAK CHINA” it was mortifying and also embarrassing to think these people come to Australia only to be treated this way with barely any time off to actually SEE the country! It’s so unfair
@BegibouАй бұрын
Oh my god 😭 I know! moving the trolley forward gives you the BIGGEST back pain. Had a few days where I couldn’t bend my back anymore or move properly until I got used to the work. Seriously so sad this happened to you!! I hope you feel better now :(
