You could also do a corner-to-corner on the square halter. You could also fold the upper and lower corners in a little and tack them down on the inside so the only points are where the side straps go and put your halter strap through the fold at the top and that way you wouldn't have this point poking into your neck and your bottom would have a matching flat end but it would still be almost a square, just with 2 blunted corners - still cute and possibly more comfortable.
