I agree benzie. I don't know why everyone acts like ccp should get everything perfect and make everyone happy on the first try. I think it's amazing they've kept eve going for twenty years and are still developing it. I'm not much of a shooter guy but I'm excited to give this a shot. Especially when I don't have anything going on in the wormhole and I'm too lazy to roll. Even if it doesn't work I think it's retry sweet they are giving it another shot.

@@KhulX it's the second attempt. Something that doesn't come out of production isn't an attempt. It took FROM Software from 1994 to 2009, with literally DOZENS of fantasy games before finally hitting big with Demons' Souls. And "what people want" and what will actually work/sell/be successful are different things often. Games are a business and, historically, gamers are selfish idiots. We advocate for things in our games that would ruin them.

@@captainbenzie I do agree dust514 was not a failure at all, and it was heartbreaking when they closed the servers. But I also have to agree with @KhulX that vanguard is not the second attempt, they showed playable demo's before of nova/legion, whatever it was called at the time, but those sadly never saw the day of light outside fanfest. I am not a fps player either, at all, but got hooked on dust514 for the gameplay which was quite novel at the time. Aside from the fact that it was basicly eve online as an fps with its freedom of suits and fittings, dust514 basicly already had everything they are presenting now and is being perceived as new, from weapons/damage, lore and link with the eve universe (impact on factional warfare). Only dissapointing thing (to me) I have seen from Vanguard is that it looks more like an extractor/shooter then the lobby/shooter that dust514 was, where you could jump in for a quick public match or get invested in territory control in factional warfare with similar levels of corporate organisation that you only find in eve. I truly hope something similar will become a gamemode in vanguard as well and not only the gameplay they showed and talked about at fanfest

I was really upset about CCP putting Dust on PS3, killed the potential for the game and it looked quite fun, hope they keep the suit fitting mechanic, that was cool, it's interesting that they made it into an extraction shooter, should help with the onboarding of outside players since that genre seems quite popular but good extraction shooters are rare. Love the look of it, reminds me of Star Citizen Marine module which I liked a lot (back when my pc could run SC).

The integration with eve is basically already there, dust players were able to join eve corps, I remember adding my dust character to my corp back then, and even chating, so in programing terms the module is already built, maybe some adjustments but i'm glad it will work like this. One point of concern is the gun model... Looks too much like something from our age, I remember in dust we had allot of different types of guns, minmatar being the "normal" ones because lets face it, in rust we trust. Yeah I know it's pre alpha but still I hope they bring allot of the design from dust because, as you said in the video Benzie, it was ahead of it's time for sure. About the endless possibilites, all I want from them is to create something simple and enjoyable, then add it later. Have a strong core with strong mechanics and gameplay, then you start doing crazy stuff. All in all, i'm pumped for EvE Vanguard, I hope to participate in the betas or even alphas, as someone who still have dust514 installed on my ps3 :D

If you think about it, it's a famas F1 with vertical grip there, even looking into iron sights... imagine it had a camera in front of it and your helmet could "stream" the first person, so he would lean and "aim down sights" but it had that "video" feel of it

I think the sights ARE integrated with the helmet, hence the red/blue/green and rangefinding. As for gun models, some of the others look very EVE, like the Khanid one.

I played DUST back on ps3 it really was a pretty cool game whit a lot potential and yes I think it was a head of it's time the gaming tech wasn't really they're yet I'm pretty hopeful that now it will work looking forward to playing Vanguard

Good coverage and explanation of what this game is all about so far. I also would like to see if pilots be able to exfiltrate players from the ground. This would allow you the opportunity to play as both a ground alt and a space alt. So if the people you have on the ground with you betray you... You could then jettison them out of your ship in space, blowing them up and taking the reward after they've betrayed you.😅

It sounds like Vanguard will be so integrated they wont be able to just ignore it like they did with Dust. Also it being PC based and made in house helps I imagine and not being tied to a console with limitations will no doubt make Vanguard a successful FPS this time around.

Dust 514 was definitely successful. Being exclusive meant Sony paid a lot for it and the game ran for three and a half years. That's a longer lifespan than many modern shooters. How many people still play Black Ops Cold War? That's three years old and pretty much dead now.

I even still have my old Dust character listed as part of my old corp I used to run so he'll live on there forever and still says he's on Torvi Moon VII so I like to think he's just chilling there. Maybe I'll name my new Vanguard character after him or close to him in honor of him and the fun I had.

you know what you have to do the next time to see shortfall... get him a "I am a bot" tshirt. :P Your idea of eve players providing extraction for vanguard players would be fantastic. Obviously that shouldn't be necessary for every game mode, the game needs to be able to stand on it's own independent of EVE... But if an eve player could find a location... provide insertion... and then extraction... that would be pretty sweet. That could be one of the perks of omega for vanguard too... the ability to run both your vanguard character and an eve character on the same account, at the same time. (I'm all about finding ways to make the sub worthwhile without it just giving the sub more power than the f2p player.) I want CCP to open up the planets for EVE players as well. 100km warp disruption field around the surface of the planet... and a bunch of pois on the surface and in atmosphere. Some of which you'd be able to just interact with in the eve client to do normal eve gameplay, and other's you'd be able to interact with in order to do a vanguard insertion. It would also be great to be able to provide support from eve into vanguard. Not just orbital bombardment, but also guiding players via mapping (basically acting as an operator) or providing support through using a hacking module (turning systems on and off and opening and closing doors,) dropping security drone escorts, supply drops, flares, ect. The special pois on planets for vanguard to interact with would work great as a point of contact for fw and sov to integrate that game into eve gameplay.

Congrats on meeting CCP Hellmar and him knowing who you were. Pretty awesome! Would be all over this game, as I used to play FPS games hardcore in the past, but unless they port it to mobile tablets, probably won’t get to play it. BTW the number in the diamond at the top middle of the screen is an emphasized directional indicator as well (ie 227 degrees). Not sure why it’s duplicated when you can see the direction roughly on the main line above it. That said though, the overall interface for the most part is pretty sweet.

Am i the only one a bit sad that it will still be a different game and not inside Eve Online? If it was in Eve online they could have done missions where you have to secure a station that pirates took over, kill them outside of the station, then dock and get a bunch of people inside the station and then it becomes an FPS and you have to clear the station from the pirates etc

Interesting I've gotten 2-3 surveys over the past 2 years asking if I would like to see the return of an FPS and did I enjoy Dust 514. Of course I said I loved those game and would love to see an fps in some form return. I know I'll be playing this like crazy when it releases in December or so the site says.

​When looking this concept, first game to come into mind is Tarkov. Because that aligns alot with the "Risk Everything" theme that EVE has. Based on that assumption, I'm guessing you are buying, crafting and equipping your base gear before you enter the mission. And seems you start with 50 biomass already, that would give everybody 2 clones, that would greatly decrease the risk. Tho that icon really does look like beacon or something. Whatever the case, super hyped!

Two games that were made by studios that had no history or knowledge of the genre, demanded by publishers that just wanted to jump on a bandwagon. Instead, here, we have a game being built by a team who've worked on FPS games in the past, and because they've learned the lessons and decided that now is the time. They're not the same 😉

Bandwagon or expand their IP? I do believe you read much more into my comment than I intended. I didn't say that they were the same, I alluded to it reminded me of. Going the same way, I meant that it isn't well adopted by the intended audience. The big issue with Renegade was that the C&C audience had little interest in FPS, their preference was RTS. I believe an integration of being able to take charge of a unit as opposed to a full on FPS would've been a better use of Westwoods time. But in itself, I did enjoy Renegade and put many hours into it but outside of nostalgia it didn't feel like C&C. I believe you really do enjoy this IP, and that's commendable. It seems like an interesting project and I do believe it would go far in bringing new people to the IP. I hope that it does. I like the idea of integration they're going for here.

ccp sold eve to black something or other years ago. they have made eve unplayable for the foreseeable future...does this belong to eve of ccp's new overlords? what this looks like so far is, nothing like dust, in fact it is more like eve in that you can get loot, but have it stolen from you at the last moment. no more fighting per se it looks like, no districts to defend or attack. so its eve on the ground? how much extra will this game cost? it shows on the launcher as free for 30 days. also...does eve/vanguard isk travel? meaning, can you use both types of isk in both games. can your eve player transfer funds to your vanguard player? it didn't from dust. i still remember when ccp announced the end of dust at fanfest. i never got to play the other 2 iterations on dust though i want to see more about vanguard. if it is indeed just eve on the ground...no point, i'm out. when will this iteration be folded up? when is the next iteration coming out? dust was a good game i agree...but eve on the ground is pale at best.

Uh what are you on about?? EVE is unplayable? That's news to me and the entire playerbase - we thought it was going from strength to strength and is the best that it's been in a long time! And yeah, this isn't Dust. That's why it's not called Dust. It's a different game. Bro, I get it. For some, hating on CCP has become a weird replacement for a personality, it's the "cool thing". @@captainbenziei do have fun in eve still..i dropped most of my accounts and became a pvp'er in nullsec. to be precise, killin' goons is my business and bussiness is boomin'. so knock off your sarcastic crap for a sec. when i started in eve, i was amazed by all the things there was to do. for 5 years i spent in hisec mining, building, selling rinse repeat. i loved doing that. then came my time in null...the end of the rorq good times was about when i came to null. then bit by bit, and sometimes in big chunks, ccp tore everything away from nullsec and put it everywhere else in eve. to add insult to injury, they added a bunch of new materials to make capital ships. even to the standard parts you would have to make already. i call these new modules "buttplugs" because they don't make the ship bigger, better, faster, or have more dps. they are there because they are and no other reason. btw, i came to eve through a dust/eve alliance so i played dust first then eve. this isn't me being salty, its just my observations. also, my killboard looked abysmal when i was in highsec. fewer than 100 kills for 5 years. then the war came! that was an exciting time to play eve! i went up to 4500 kills after the war and 15 trillion in isk killed...lots of keepstars that goons didn't want i guess. so there is still one thing in eve to do...pvp. i haven't touched my rorq or orca's in 3 years almost....not likely to ever use them again. but that doesn't mean the game is ending, i just wrapped it all up in pvp now.

This is more like tarkov, which is known as the fps version of eve already. Full loot death, pvp and pve all on the same map. Not going to be a call of duty like game at all.

But dust launched on a platform almost nobody in the eve fanbase had. It wasn't even console exclusive, it was PS3 exclusive and launched 3 months before PS4 came out. I'll try it as I would have tried Dust 514 if it launched on PC too.

So no, Sony paid allot for the exclusivity, it had micro transactions and the servers ran past the ps3 into Ps4 era for allot of months before it was shut down, so no it wasn't a failure, so much so that they made another one for pc, go figure why...

Dust 514 wasn't a failure. It ran for THREE YEARS as a PS3 exclusive when the PS4 was being pushed hard.
