Hey , Thanks for sharing your ressources! it really helps to grasp the different ciriculum that i know! as Graduate Bsc in Game development, we only did learn how game engine work and on high level ( with Unreal engine and Unity). we did some introduction to computer graphics with opengl with very bare thing (render box) but we didn't advanced in that, abd also math,physics and AI logic in game dev by using prebuilt engines that exist. but none less more advanced that i saw in your notion. I'm currently working on studio as AI/Game programmer , not Engine Developer or anything , we use pre built engine (in my case Unity) and it was a life saver from what i saw "how to create your own engine" by cherno lol. so i want to ask if Game Programmer should really learn these topics or should i enhance my ability to program in these existing engine?

Thank you so much for the motivational words and resources. Your channel is terrific. I have recently decided I want to get a degree in game design. I am also UK based and was wondering if you could give me insight into the best places to study. I have never been to uni so I'd be going in as an undergrad. As someone who is in the industry and has studied here I thought you might know.

If you're set on the game development track, then Newcastle is the best possible option for you, with leeds being a close second. With that being said, you could go to oxford to specialize in computer graphics and get into the industry that way, it's really up to you!

Lovely video! I have a question. I would like to start my career in software development through web development because it's easier to get my foot in the door in my current market space (Malaysia). Since I have a baby on the way, focusing purely on game development right now is risky since the game market here is more volatile and may not guarantee a quick foot in the door. My question is, how easy or difficult would it be for me to transition from web development to game development after, let's say, 2 years of working as a web develop?
@Edgar_SB2 жыл бұрын
I dont know
@joshwilliams48742 жыл бұрын
Well it seems like you could apply for game development companies that are looking for website development related things such as like a cash shop on their website, etc. However for actually working on the game itself would be kinda meh due to the differences in languages and engine choice(engine choice and knowledge is a real kicker) , I believe if u want a shot with your web development experience, you should be able to show them that you are capable of using popular engines and native language (Unreal engine/Unity and c++/C# respectively). Because I believe that HTML and Mysql are kinda different when we r speaking about actual game code. But then again you could be very valuable when it comes to database connections with player info on a cloud maybe. Dont wanna sound like a downer but, web devs are very common and guess it depends on company to company.
@embergamedev2 жыл бұрын
I have done exactly this except I haven't made it into the game development industry yet. Honestly, web dev is great in terms of pay and job opportunities. But to tell you the truth, the web apps I have built haven't really helped me to make good video games. Only benefits that I took away from my web dev job that I have applied are some general things like learning to code, important programming organization / components, user interface and user experience design, project management, and really anything you could learn just from making games yourself if you try to learn those topics yourself. Another benefit of the web dev job first I see is working on production code with lots of other developers. You can learn a lot of skills if you are working on larger projects with other people who also contributing code. But other than that, C# and C++ are very different beasts compared to javascript. I have not tried hard to interview or apply for positions in the games industry and honestly have just kept game development as a hobby for now until I can build up my portfolio and skills more. Best way to make games is by... well, making games. Not web apps. However, web development can help you in your career, development, and many other skills that you could apply to your future game dev job. Web dev also helps pay the bills in the meantime. I definitely enjoy making games as a hobby so far, but I will say one thing I need to do differently is keep myself more accountable with accomplishing and setting ACHIEVABLE game dev goals. It's also easy for life to get in the way of my hobby when I don't set aside dedicated time to reaching those goals.

Hello, I'm currently in the process of acquiring the skills necessary to become a game engine developer. I'm contemplating the idea of pursuing a master's degree, and I'm curious if your master's degree is Computer Game Engineering. I would greatly appreciate your insights on whether this program would be a good fit for my goals.

Your email "subscription" ended up in my spam mail, right next to the Viagra pills spam. Is using tricks to convert "kit" also taught in the course? I'm not saying this is useless, but you sure don't "share everything you learned in this video". You use sunk cost fallacy to manipulate people into becoming your audience. FOMO too, as I have no idea what you could actually be sharing until I subscribe.
