Redundancies are a must for me in winter i run super hot when hiking so a dry base layer is essential for me to change into then had down pants and down jacket when m at camp i never hike in down. Softshell pants synthetic base layer and a rab vr jacket for hiking 2 pair gloves 1 for hiking 1 for camp. No snow but sub temps i use the niak for snow i use the storm star. Weight is not considered for winter trips. So micro spikes are always carried.

Nice video, thank you. Very good winter gear. A lot comes from Europe, nortent, cumulus and exped, is something different than just american outdoor gear. I also had the nortent vern 1 but it was too small for me and my dog. I switched to the Fjallraven abisko lite 2, also a 4 season tent, and 600 grams lighter than the vern1.

Thanks! I'd sure love to try a Fjall tent, but they are hard to find here in the US. I looooove Cumulus! The two bags I have from them are incredible value and perform so well.

@@GunSheppard I’m a huge fan of the UltraGrid. I like it more than the UltraWeave. So I asked Brandon for the Avocado UltraGrid. With the UltraGrid I don’t have to be concerned about potential delamination that can happen with laminated fabrics.

@@BackcountryExposure Thanks for your response. Yeah I've been wary about Ultra delamination too. The idea of a fully-waterproof highly abrasion-resistant pack is awesome, but I think that the technology needs to mature a bit more. Maybe Aluula Graflyte fits the bill - time will tell.

I was initially excited about it with the updates they made, but ultimately wasn’t very happy with it. It’s far too short. Gear rubbing on the walls and getting wet was less than ideal. I ended up selling it after just a couple uses.

Nice video. I dig the tables. I see those types in Japanese camping videos. Frying with titanium is tricky. I end up hovering the pan so food doesn't burn. I like the Firebox 8" cook kit. Basically the same but it's anodized aluminum so can sort of season it like cast iron. I've been wanting to try to bake a pizza using coals on top.

Yeah I need to spend more time cooking on the pan to see what the sweet spot is. One of my all time favorite pans is the Fry Bake in the Alpine size. I’ve baked all sorts of fun stuff with it. Hoping I can do similar with this Toaks kit. Need to try at home though first.

The Exped Dura 8R is incredible. Dunno about the 5R and 7R but every other pad I've used seems like a pool toy by comparison. The down insulation is phenomenal and it's surprisingly comfortable.

The problem I see with down mats is they pack so much bigger than. Thermarest and also I find difficult to have the down evenly distributed. I've been cold in spots sometimes and at home with a potent light I've come to realize that sometimes down does not cover everything in the mat so there could be some cold spots. This is a bit of a inconvenience. But the feel and comfort is top notch

Do you not bring any insulated booties to be able to take your moist hiking boots off when you get to camp? This is something I'm looking into for this season. The outdoor research tundra booties are on my radar...

I haven't in the past. Although, I do have a pair of Sierra Designs booties that I've thought to try. I've used however a pair of goose feet gear down booties for sleeping in the past.

Okay that Nortent looks seriously bomber. How do you cope with condensation in the wintertime with a solid tent?

It's rad! The inner is still breathable fabric and so it's not really all that different from mesh getting wet. I still keep vents open, and the Vern has two floor vents at the end and the door as well up top.

Really nice load out! I really like the puffy pants. I take a pair in really cold and they are great for sitting around at camp. I’m with you on down. I tend to choose synthetic for my puffy coat, pants, gloves, etc. love the table. I have one similar that I use around camp and my hammock. Very handy and versatile.
