Such an incredible idea there with pens, thank you!

Our last d&d session I started using ambience music with a Bluetooth speaker and added the condition rings and it was really well received. The music actually kept people engaged and bumped up the pace. Of course I was using KZbin videos so when ads would come on it would pause so it kind of serve to start an encounter but then it faded away so that we could focus and we didn't even notice the music stopped so I kind of liked it starting off setting the tone and then fading away as we started going through the encounter.

I use a trunk that looks like a treasure chest for D&D stuff, because im a big nerd. Naturally I got the PHB and Monster Manual in there, no DMG (I print out anything I would need from it)... I have just a TON of dice, I have a jar taht I keep a bunch in... I also keep generic spiral notebooks (in a stack in there) for note taking. No Laptop, but I have a tablet for music and rules reference... Not session notes. Also got a dry erase battlemap, Vinyl sounds like a better material than the laminated one I got. My Dungeon Masters screen I use a lot for quick reference, but I tend to keep it half open... just isnt a good size for my... Frame. Houglass and condition rings... damn, I want those... Kinda wanna get one of those speakers too My generic tokens/minis are 2 things, a mimic dice bag full of glass beads with a flat bottom, and a bowl of rocks from the dollar store that my niece is fond of. I also have a TOOOOOOOOOON of minis, mostly cannibalized from Heroclix, I use a small plastic case and I take the ones I need for a session. And naturally I got the Monster Cards from Gale Force 9 as well. And I use an X-card as my safety safety tool in games, I like your system though with the pens. Always a good thing to remember... breaks let you go faster.

All great stuff! I love the condition rings so much. They're not vert expensive, and help a lot

We use X cards also in my group, but I’m absolutely going to steal the break signal idea! Love it. Maybe flip the X card over and put a B for break…

I’ve been using a simple hardware organizer from Home Depot for dice, pens, and other items like that. Makes it really nice because it comes with the individual dividers. Where would you recommend looking for small tokens like the ones you use for generic enemies? Never sure how to find them online.

My local game store had tons of tokens, I would always suggest looking there first. If they don't stock them or if you don't have a game store nearby I would suggest searching "flat marbles" on amazon. Those flat glass marbles work super well as tokens. Appreciate the comment, Riley!

No hourglasses? I can highly recommend getting 6 for different times. I use one for 30 sec, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes and when my players are stuck on a riddle with time constraint, I can whip out a 10 minute hourglass and let them see squirm!

good stuff as always. i use cheapo jenga pieces instead of dominoes. works a treat and i suppose you can write/draw on them too

That's a great idea! Never thought of that.

Good video as always, as a game master I will maby steal some of the tips, the domino cover system seemes realy fun to use, I always just write on the battle map but dominos seme good if you want to throw them around. is there anything you can use for 1x1 ssquares you migth want to have, like a urn och simular. Maby just cut the domino in 2? How do you solve that problem? However somethings we disagree on, I don't like to have a speaker wean me and my group play but thats becous some of us are realy senetive to noice and unable to focus if you hear something else. And I also realy like to have a pure pen and paper feeling wean we play. but I also like to play realy old rpg whean modern luxuries arent factored in wean the books are written so it works weal. However thats the buti in rpg's. We don't have to play simaraly. we just takes whats works for us and get inspired by others. Test the thinge they do and if they work. it's a win, if they dont just don do it.

There are so many styles of play! I love it, one of the things that makes this game so awesome. If I want to cover one square I just use a token or something, but I also have some cardboard that I cut up!

came back to say, after I watched this I looked at my D&D box... and realized I neglected to mention one thing in my D&D box... my collection of "d2's" Which is just me being silly about all the novelty coins I keep in case I need to flip a coin.

Back in the 1e days of my youth, I would have been *horrified* if I'd seen someone putting stickers on their PHB or DMG, but 5e is such a disposable low-grade product now, I'd say you actually increased both its utility and its value. Even tho this may be the last physical edition, it's still not worth trying to be precious with. (Besides, the rules are free.) Tho tbf I doubt the books themselves are as fragile now as they were bitd. My first copy of Unearthed Arcana, for example, fell apart at the spine almost before I could read thru it. And my first DMG (the orange spine) had the same problem, only it lasted a bit longer before totally collapsing into loose sheets.

Really, holding up pens to indicate you're uncomfortable, in a fantasy role playing game?
