Like my dad used to say about being married to mom for 50 years, and 8 kids, faithful daily masses, houses, cars, jobs, sicknesses, feasts, fasts, new stuff, new friends, old friends, businesses, travels, wars, colleges, so much life him and mom had, me included, he said as he was dying: "Why you crying? We had a good run, son!" So I try and live with that in my mind.

The night before my dad died he and I were talking and reminiscing, I was crying, he said "it's ok, it's my time. When your number is up it's up. I've had a great life" Even on that last day, he got to witness one of his granddaughters take her first steps. I'm blessed to have given him one last joy. God bless you

@Elizabeth-mp6t Saint Augustine also said: "Love God, and THEN, do what you will." He also said: "If you do not understand Scripture so as to build up your love of God and neighbor - then you have not yet understood it aright." Most, if not all of these quotes, can be found in Augustine's "Confessions", probably the world's first real spiritual autobiography. Chesterton's "Orthodoxy: the Romance of Faith" (which God used to gift me back the Faith when I had gone astray) is a 20th century A.D. wonderful example of the genre

@@RexKochanski Dear Rex: After so much of reviewing things, and I see sooooo much division, in our Church, in our politics, in our policies, in most anything in life! Everyone wants to "make a point," to "ward it over" someone. People judging others, to make a point of righteousness, even in our Church clergy. I am sooooo disheartened! You, Sir, your comment, is extremely, deeply refreshing! Thank you for enlightening my heart and soul! God Bless!

My wife, to whom I have been married for 53 years, passed away a few months ago. Death is irreducible and specific in that it calls for radical detachment. Now, I truly live in the tension between Christ crucified and Christ resurrected. Christ offers not a consolation in that moment of radical detachment. He offers better: his presence everlasting. Bishop Barron, I am very thankful for your continued work in spreading the word of Christ. Amongst other helpful influences in my life, your contributions guided me back towards the path of catholicism. While initially raised as such, I became atheistic for years. It was a nihilistic and frankly depressing path, and after much inner reflection I've "returned to the fold", as it were. Thank you so much, regards.

I often ask God in the resurrection to give me perfect recollection of those memories with my children when they were little. The most beautiful and fleeting of events, intense hard work and transformational and yet almost ephemeral. I look at those pics together with them and mourn the passing of those days and hope God will allow me to recall and be grateful for them again when he returns.

It's so true that everything in this world is transient, and the wheel of life keeps turning. Jesus's word lives forever. I don't recall that I enjoyed the richness of life without. At least not as much as the moment of my baptism. One example that keeps coming to my mind is the beautiful scenery around my house, they looked different after one day of my Catholic baptism; they looked so vivid and rich in colors that I had never seen before. Through Jesus and his one Catholic Church life to me became more meaningful that I'm able to enjoy its richness by God's grace.

Thank you Bishop Barron. I’m almost “there”. But sometimes, I think we all NEED “a firework”. And unfortunately for me, I’m picky, and the particular fireworks I need are almost always… “forbidden” (for one reason or another). And that’s absolutely maddening. And lately, outside of mass, that deep frustration often leaves me beyond depressed, and just outright despondent. I’m so very grateful for the prayers that have been answered. And I know this “purgative” state most of us are in should be joyous. But for me, lately, it’s been anything but. And that makes me a bad priest, prophet, king. Sighhhh, I wish I could just be at mass all the time. But, knowing myself, I’d probably get bored of that too. The struggle you speak of is, indeed, SO very real 😖🙏🏻

@@BishopRobertBarron6 Bless the Lord oh my soul! Hello my brother in Jesus Bishop Barron! Thank you for taking the time to greet little ole me? A tear of joy for Love of God, for you & your team of angels at WOF ministry! Thank you for helping me to understand, intelectually, my lifelong faith, and the courage to evangelize others. Thank you for the Holy Hour book that has helped me to focus on my prayers. After my husband’s death of over 50 years, it had become very difficult for me to do. May the Lord continue to bless you and your whole Word On Fire ministry team in bringing us sinners his love and mercy to the world!
