Like my dad used to say about being married to mom for 50 years, and 8 kids, faithful daily masses, houses, cars, jobs, sicknesses, feasts, fasts, new stuff, new friends, old friends, businesses, travels, wars, colleges, so much life him and mom had, me included, he said as he was dying: "Why you crying? We had a good run, son!" So I try and live with that in my mind.

The night before my dad died he and I were talking and reminiscing, I was crying, he said "it's ok, it's my time. When your number is up it's up. @Elizabeth-mp6t Saint Augustine also said: "Love God, and THEN, do what you will." He also said: "If you do not understand Scripture so as to build up your love of God and neighbor - then you have not yet understood it aright." Most, if not all of these quotes, can be found in Augustine's "Confessions", probably the world's first real spiritual autobiography. Chesterton's "Orthodoxy: the Romance of Faith" (which God used to gift me back the Faith when I had gone astray) is a 20th century A.D. wonderful example of the genre

It's so true that everything in this world is transient, and the wheel of life keeps turning. Jesus's word lives forever. I don't recall that I enjoyed the richness of life without. At least not as much as the moment of my baptism. One example that keeps coming to my mind is the beautiful scenery around my house, they looked different after one day of my Catholic baptism; they looked so vivid and rich in colors that I had never seen before. Through Jesus and his one Catholic Church life to me became more meaningful that I'm able to enjoy its richness by God's grace.

Thank you Bishop Barron. I’m almost “there”. But sometimes, I think we all NEED “a firework”. And unfortunately for me, I’m picky, and the particular fireworks I need are almost always… “forbidden” (for one reason or another). And that’s absolutely maddening. And lately, outside of mass, that deep frustration often leaves me beyond depressed, and just outright despondent. I’m so very grateful for the prayers that have been answered. And I know this “purgative” state most of us are in should be joyous. But for me, lately, it’s been anything but. And that makes me a bad priest, prophet, king. Sighhhh, I wish I could just be at mass all the time. But, knowing myself, I’d probably get bored of that too. The struggle you speak of is, indeed, SO very real 😖🙏🏻
