The thing that you're not considering though is that decent supports are always going to have one slot in their inventory for control wards anyways. So the alternative is having a control ward with no stats, or if your game goes late enough, having those wards in a Watchful with some stats and possibly upgrading it into Vigilant for all the ward cap increases. If the options for that inventory slot are having no stats or having some stats, buying the item is always strictly better. That being said, most games don't last long enough for it to be bought, as it is most useful as a last item.

wardstone is a mid-late game situational item, you're never going it first. Their changes to it made it worse for non tanks to build.

I miss when it used give you a % of all your stats when completed. I still use it and find it op, but only because the other sup never takes it.
