I bought a true 65 Deluxe Reverb in the late 80s from one of my brother's friends thst needed some quick cash . I offered him $100 but he refused and took $40 for it. Still a great little amp. I don't know if UPS is who those problems with the damaged guitars came from but I've had issues with them leaving guitars precariously balanced on the hand rail on my porche . Packages left on vehicles and some left at the foot of my steps on the rain. Even boxes with large dents in them. Thank God therecwas no damage. One guitar I may have even got from you if thats who you ship with. I filled complaints about the careless handling numerous times. I don't know if I have a new driver that delivers in my area but I haven't had any issues lately.

Your Marshall needs to be turned up really loud to obtain that classic Marshall crunch. My old Marshall Plexi has a measured output of 35W, it is crazy loud by the time the tubes start breaking up, that's just how it is. IMHO, your best bet would be either an attenuator or maybe a separate head amp with its speaker cabinet inside of an isolation box. Maybe collaborate with Robert Baker or some other Audio Pro to get the amp situation properly sorted out. I was going to recommend going all digital, but to be honest, the learning curve is pretty long and time isn't something you have a lot of. Its a shame about those damaged guitars, those shipping people have only one job, and yet they failed.
@JokersWild706 ай бұрын
@hkguitar1984 Use a volume pedal so you can crank the master volume on your Marshall, or, do the EVH thing, and use a Variac to lower the voltage, but run the amp all the way up (89 volts was his sweet spot) 🤙

@@clarkbabin9799 Yeah, I am fortunate that we have a relationship with our UPS Driver (he has been delivering to our home for 13 years now). And while our delivery driver is very careful he is still only the last link in a very long chain of custody as the parcels make their was to and from. These days we live in, so many people care so little, its sometimes very disheartening.

Have a family member that retired from UPS. Advice from UPS internally was to pack so it can fall 8-10' onto concrete and not be damaged. They use a conveyor system in larger facilities that can be that high. I have had issues with UPS and FedEx and dealing with their insurance is always a pain. Hope the run of bad luck passes

My buddy worked for both major shipping companies and he always warned me to avoid "handle with care" because unfortunate it invites nefarious people to maybe NOT handle them with so much care. I believe I know what's going, in fact I'm pretty certain, but I'll keep it to myself. It's not only just with guitars obviously. It's almost anything, including a more than well packaged first edition incredibly rare book. I was physically sick, still am, because it was irreplaceable.

i've had family who work for both ups and fedex. neither. you either have people who are scrambling to load the next transport (be it truck or plane), and don't care much about how things land or get shoved into the stacks. or you have the malicious ones who do things as sloppy as possible because they're just jagoffs. there really isn't much room for anything in the middle for the bigger packages. they're better than most of DHL, but not by that much. and yes, exterior labelling invites the bad actors to 'slip'. or, depending on the contents, make off with it, if they can. (obviously not happening with guitars, mostly, but it still happens)

I had a mail order company where we mailed out parcels. We used to drive our parcels down to the main shipping depot, where they sort them into bins for delivery to different areas. I literally watched the depot employees throwing parcels across the warehouse into the big metal bins (imagine dumpsters) and the far away bins they threw the parcels so they hit the rear concrete wall BEHIND the bin, then fell into the bin. Saved lots of walking. I learned two things; 1. Those guys had impressive throwing arms 2. We needed to revise our product packaging The way Trogly had packaged guitars here is NOT PROFESSIONAL and he should accept much of the blame...

I had a beautiful Gibson 25/50 Les Paul from 1978 shipped from Wayne Gretzky Land in Canada to Los Angeles last November. The shipper, a music store, under-insured it by 90% ($10k CAD) via Canada Post to US Mail. Yikes!!!. The headstock had some binding cracked off and a pickup ring was split. Simple fix by a good luthier, The binding down the neck had cracks, but I think that is like finish checking on a 45 year old guitar. The guitar must have shipped neck down in the case for 2000-3000 miles. I asked for 2-3 day shipping, so it came by air, but was still banged around.

TIP: As a precaution, always detune your guitars before shipping or handling to avoid too much tension on the headstock and neck and especially during an air flight. UPS and FedEx have sorting facilities that might only be 15 years old, but they're running at 200% capacity or higher. And they can't shut them down to increase capacity, so they literally buy property nearby and build new facilities. That LTD either got run over by a forklift or a very heavy package was dropped onto it. I'm going with forklift. Those facilities have conveyor systems with packages falling off and getting lost for a week, so kinds of horror stories. What a shame. I don't think there's any possible way you could've packaged that where it wouldn't have gotten destroyed.

I worked at UPS for years, sorting packages off of a conveyor belt at a high rate of speed coming in belt wide, I read labels and sorted the packages into chute slides that lead to semi trailers. I’d get my ice water bottles ready, climb up to the belt, do my stretches, as buzzers went off, & the belt fired up and it was on! & I’d be just buried over my head with packages 2 minutes into my shift, covered with sweat with all my loads backed up, & I’d be stacking packages up over my head, to keep the belt running no matter what, as the loaders were buried into trailers by boxes, no one’s looking all to hard at any fragile handle with care stickers, I’ve saw a guy melt down who couldn’t keep up with the pace, and throw a hissy fit, stomping his foot through a box and shattering an antique grandfather clock vandalizing it totally out of pure rage and frustration, times may have changed but I’d sure never ship a guitar or anything treasured through UPS!…🫣

I had a left handed fiesta red AVRI 2 strat arrive with the neck pocket cracked down both sides and keyholed neck screws. Then had an amp arrive with the cabinet completely smashed. Then another guitar came broken. I’m not sure if they’re deliberately breaking stuff or if people just don’t care any more, but it used to be extremely rare for guitars to arrive damaged. Now it’s something like a third of the stuff I order, music or otherwise, ends up damaged.

Hopefully, this didn't jinx a 1993 Gibson Centennial Flying-V in All Gold I have coming in late April. The 100th Anniversary Explorer version in the huge rectangular case was super heavy (60 lbs) compared to a Gibson Les Paul. In general, I avoid shipping a fragile guitar in the middle of winter from a cold and snowy climate to LA, when temps at shipping warehouse can be below freezing. In the early 2000s, when large flat panel Plasma TVs started to be sold, many arrived cracked when shipping in the winter. Back then, these large TVs weighed over100 lbs and shipped in crates.

After months and thanks to the sellers keeping after insurance, we finally got paid out on those two, but I just decided to swear off shipping vintage hollow and semi-hollows at this point. The slide systems they use (talking to a friend who works in the facilities) just doesn't seem like it'll work with shipping fragile guitars, and seems specifically dangerous for hollow and semi-hollow guitars. Seems they impact too hard at the bottom of the slide and both of my examples were shipped by guys who ship a lot of vintage guitars, so both were packed well.

This headstock can be easily repaired because the crack is with the grain, if it was across the grain (like 90% of the times with gibsons) it would be harder to fix it, usually needing some sort of reinforcement at the crack joint like a backstrap or splines.

A result of corporate cost cutting to the bone while pressing workers for ever increasing performance quotas (otherwise known as "sub contracting"). I still flatly refuse to ship guitars. I buy new and used guitars locally in my hands from the store wall or the listings. Dealers can take that risk and I'll just get to pick from whatever survives their shipping. The Hetfield LTD could totally be fixed, and for an experienced luthier wouldn't be a problem. While no break is good, if you do suffer a headstock break, you want them long and crossgrain like that. It's the short engrain breaks that are a bit more of a pain to fix, mostly for alignment purposes. Scarf joining a new headstock or replacing the neck would be much more difficult. The finish repair is kinda a different ball game, it really depends on what type of lacquer it is. Poly is more durable but tougher to repair, Nitro is easier to touch up but more prone to witness lines/checking/etc. If that kind of repair is appropriate for that guitar, I don't know, really depends on the value/how much emotional investment there is. But purely from a repair standpoint, long breaks are better, and glue is stronger than wood.

Salutations Austin! It’s a great thing that those guitars were insured, and that is an excellent example why those packages should be insured. Accidents do happen! Unfortunately, there are some bad actors out there that do not exercise the proper care that they should, while handling packages 📦, and once, that is why packages such as these should be insured. Another precaution that I use is a Post Office Box, there is absolutely no good reason why the delivery driver cannot find the local Post Office, and the package is safe there until I pick it up, no porch pirates can get their grubby hands on my packages, and the item is insured until I have the package in my hands. Thanks for sharing! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸

THAT SUCKS! IMO the box with the ESP in it was dropped headstock end first from a good height the interior padding slid in the case and that is why your seeing a gap, the head stock hit the inside of the case first when the interior of the case let go from the sides and bottom of the case. It might be wise to add some sort of ridged foam brace on each side of the neck/headstock area so if it happens again the interior of the case won't separate from the outer part of the case. The rigid foam will not let it all slide and protect the headstock and probably keep the glue from letting go on the padding. Of course I would be pissed if a guitar got broken in shipping. UPS trashed a Neal Moser Guitar I got from GC. I knew something was wrong when it seemed the package never got delivered sent back to FL and back to me again via TX. When I got it finally I opened the pretty beat up box and was happy to see their wild and huge headstock was still attached unfortunately it was a V shaped guitar and both points on the V were trashed. Obviously dropped body end from a good height. UPS paid me for it and let me keep it and I had it repaired by a professional. Truthfully I could have done the job myself. I wouldn't have an issue fixing that headstock. I would clean up the break a little dowel it and glue it back it would be playable but hiding the repair would need more work.

Thankfully never had wood damage, but I did have bad pickups and wires come loose on things I’ve bought and just recently a semi-hollow guitar I sold had the tone control wire get rattled off in shipping. Sheesh. (Thankfully it was on a control plate and didn’t need to be fished around like on a 335.

Any chance the blues breaker is for sale?

Clean up some of the loose fibres and it'll glue together fine.

"things" are getting worse.....everywhere......when folk get paid the same money for staying at home rather than "work" this is what happens.

i recently had the same damage to my case after shipping that your snakebyte did. somehow snapped the neck pickup off. UPS and Fedex are awful these days

That first guitar shouldn't require insurance. It was clearly someone's negligence in the process. Maybe the insurance company chases them down after paying you out.

At least you can salvage the pickups and hardware. Those EMG's aren't cheap on their own.
