I prefer it like that, no character should be a Swiss army knife. As someone who plays a lot of Mercy, it really annoys me when someone else locks in Mercy when there is no synergy whatsoever, especially when I already picked Brig, Lucio, or Zen because it just shows that they don't have any understanding of the game. And the worst part is they are usually bad at her too.

I dread pocketing Pharah when she's flying far away from the rest. And when I'm trying to keep the team alive and she died, I'd get call out by her for not staying with her. It's as if a Pharmercy is always expected even when she's not killed anything or done much damage. And when my heal counts are lower, I'd get called out by everyone else for not healing. I..

Not played the new patch yet, but I am worried that we are going into a heal bot meta. With more damage going out, bigger health pools and an "anti-heal" passive for DPS, that naturally means more healing is required. Sure they added a small passive healing, but it remains to be seen how much that will bridge the gap because it won't be useful during team fights. I feel the meta may favour Bap, Moira and Ana, but maybe I am wrong.

My experience is actually quite the opposite. I feel like more dmg is required from supports. I think heroes like Bap Could be really good this season. The bullet buff makes Bap crazy and quickly killing the ennemies means the dps passive can't slowly kill the team. Healbotting is in my opinion even worse than before. Because Heals are less effective , the Target you heal will eventually die unless they kill the enemy before that. Where as if you alternate between healing and dmg your chance of killing the enemy is higher. But I guess this doesn't apply to mercy.

I was talking about this with my bf last night, he thought Mercy was going to be bad this season (what's new, I guess). My only counterpoint is that I'm interested in what new breakpoints exist with damage boost vs. the higher health pools. Like, now Hanzo needs to be damage boosted to one shot most squishies, does that mean Hanzo + Mercy could be meta? What other similar break points exist?

i love not having to play pharamercy as a mercy, but it hurts that mercy will be even more of a niche pick now...i wish we would get some new tech possibilities that give us more choices for gameplay instead of things like sympathetic recovery that feel more incidental in terms of how i can use it, rather than an intentional, meaningful decision i can consistently make with my gameplay that will contribute to the fight...still, im excited for the season 9 changes overall and am ready to keep on playing mercy in whatever meta that forms!

I'm really glad mercy is finally getting buffs, even if its part of the whole gameplay rework. I am kinda worried about valk hitbox and the bullets increased hitbox.. I feel like I will be a flying airship that you literally cannot miss but we will see... Pocketing a pharah was one of my favorite things to do. I will miss being able to help pharah spam from the skybox, perhaps riskier positions will have to be taken to engage pharah. Oh my god I remember the last clip from stream, that overtime lasted an eternity. 😭

Ngl, i have been saying that if they gave her back some mobility in exchange for making har hitbox bigger she would have been more fun for me since they nefed her in that weird tanky way back then. We got some of our mobility back and everyone is now easier to shoot, not just us so i consider this a great change for her, obviously we need to see how she actually plays

Honestly, I am hopeful that the GA buff helps because it at least restores some synergy with the beam break cooldown. There's a much larger window now between using GA and breaking line of sight with target.

i’m curious what you think about the changes to the dps passive in terms of disincentivizing the healing of players who are being damaged. thinking very technically here, a mercy seeking to maximize their own utility/ult charge/sympathetic healing would be better off healing a teammate not being actively damaged than one who is, whereas before the changed passive it made more sense to heal a teammate actively in danger in order to keep them up. do you think changes to the passive will result in mercy players changing their priority targets for healing and therefore leaving endangered teammates to die more often, or will the desire to keep those endangered teammates up override personal utility maximization?

i can see your idea but it would matter less during resurrect as you are already an incredibly easy target so here the change actually benefits us since we are just flatout beefier and can sustain for example two kiriko headshots without dying. Also mercy damage boost is a buff, if you think the increase in projectile size for everyone will equal more damage constantly. So better to boost the damage of the more hitting teammates now, which also means more ults for your team in general. People complaining about a general drop off on mercy but I remember in OW where mercy was very niche pick because her ult was a aoe res which means you mostly had to hide in team fights swoop on point and mass res to win a fight.

They still need to address damage boost. Throw a mercy pocket on a soldier and hes way more effective right now. Should make her damage boost similar to moira heals and give it a charge. Healing can refill it quicker, should deplete fast regardless

Update after playing and observing Mercy in play since Season 9 went live. I think the new healing changes with prompt players to make use of cover more, now that they will find that healing is not going to let them stand in withering fire and be healed through it any longer. This is a good thing! It is realisic that when folks are getting shot, they aren't able to get the trauma patched up as though they are Wolverine with a ludicrous healing factor. Having easier to land bullets makes learning to use cover that much more important! I am enjoying the new system. Learning about proper flanking and defilade is now an immense factor that other players will need to take into account if they really want to make proper plays as the game evolves. I'm excited to see these changes. Mercy is still valid! In fact, now her sidearm is even more relevant. You are less valuable as a healing AND damage beam spammer. Landing opportunist potshots from sidelines on people and weakening shields is a huge factor! It helps break down the opposing force's front line and gives an opportunity to push the objective. What you want to do now is get into position using GA. Take cover! Heal when people aren't in fire or are traversing open ground and taking hits so they don't die. Boost people and let them know that they are being boosted so they don't waste your time by not landing shots or not taking shots when you are tethered. If you aren't boosting outgoing fire, you are wasting time that could be spent firing your Caduceus blaster! Mercy is now a combat medic! Pull out the glock and get those headshots! Get elims and build your ult so you can get valk up and become an airborne weapons platform. When you can spam valk damage boost, you can turn team fights on their head super quickly. Damage boost wins team fights, especially when you have valk up. Mercy ain't niche. She's reborn. Learn to love the new approach and embrace using cover and new angles of attack. Our mobility gives us amazing advantage when we have teammates who can help us get into position.

I've played around 30 matches since season 9 begun and I cannot believe the extra amount of hate dps & tanks are throwing on healers because they "Are not healing enough" - I think it'll take some time till players realize how much the dps passive impacts them, especially tanks!

Rezz is getting an indirect buff too. Before, you needed to stand practically still to rezz shooting mercy was really easy to hit. Now, Mercy has 50 more hp. So even with the proyectile size increase (which doesn’t apply when mercy is rezzing because she was super easy to hit anyway) she will survive a bit more. Idk if she is niche tho. Her dmg boost is incredibly valuable now as it returns to almost all breakpoints, with good usage of cover she will be a menace to go against if you have a good dps.

Mercy has been a niche pick for a while as she benefits from being paired more with specific DPS otherwise you're normally better off playing another support unless you really just want to play Mercy Damage boost is good for sure but in actual play, Mercy feels like garbage from my now 12 hours playing her since the patch went live

Yeah, tbh almost all supports feel worse than last patch. Everything got the indirect nerfs with dps supports now doing barely damage and barely healing while more healer supports doing less healing. Just feel like you slowly watch them die instead of healing them. 😢

Tbh, phara-Mercy really isn’t THAT bad (in diamond ranks that is), I was able to keep up fairly well but it definitely is a little harder now. I’m sure it just depends on how good people are with Phara and how mobile they’re being. But aside that, I felt a little more in control of the fights. I could go for a little risky rez more often because of the hp increase, and the buff (albeit small) buff to her GA helped out in small situations. Other than that, I am hating the new passive of healing slower when they’re under attack 💀

I don’t think mercy really different than before really. Mercy has always been a niche hero. Her healing has always been weak in my opinion but the new dps passive just makes mercy healing even worse. I find myself being even more aggressive with her blue beam tbh and do less healing. Like for example, with the new passive everyone has now is to be able to regenerate their health, I would just heal one of the dps or support a little till their regen starts then go back to damage boosting the other dps like soj, hanzo, or solider. Healing the tank never changed really, only help the support out to heal the tank when the tanks is at critical. I also find myself being more passive with her GA now since they changed the hitbox. It’s now pretty easy for the dps now to hit mercy. So yeah, season 9 is pretty rough for us 😂. But can be adapted.

As a Sombra main, I appreciate Mercy being easier to hit. Yeah, the buffs make sense, since with health regen, you best believe I am NOT leaving that healing mosquito alone to go grab a health pack. EVER. EDIT: also helps that I can just pepper whoever she's healing with like 3 bullets to make her even easier to kill. Now to figure out how to survive the new problem instead; Zen

Playing mercy this season feels like there is really no point in using her GA I’m better off staying on the ground and doing small hops and jumps over and on objects to avoid enemies rather than flying. I wish that they would give mercy a chance to defend herself a bit more. Especially against Tracers and Sombras her gun could of used an added buff especially with all these changes to passive healing.

I've been playing Mercy for a while and I feel like since all the changes in season 9, I'm having more trouble healing during fights than before, especially tanks. However, I understood that Mercy has just had a small buff, I did not think that it would have such a negative impact on my way of playing. (thanks google trad)

So basically, there's a new passive for Damage heroes which reduces the healing received of any enemy they hit by 20% for 2 seconds (it does not have a cooldown). This reduces Mercy's healing to 44hp/s

I don't think the buffs are enough especially since I think mercy will suffer from a lot of the other changes this season but I will take what I can get at this point.
