@sweeney71634 жыл бұрын
Pink Kat you completely missed the point, regardless of you being right about the fact that ofc even if you threw money at someone, they’d still need to decide to spend that on their own favor, the point was that Bloomberg has the wealth to bring about or help bring about change for hundreds of thousands of people, if he really cared about them. But he doesn’t, which is why he’s throwing money everywhere but to those who need it, going against a lot of other democratic candidates, who would all, except for Tom Steyer, make for a better president or at least presidential nominee, than Bloomberg would.
@Sean-y1m4 жыл бұрын
Pink Kat “throwing people money” has actually helped and I would rather these social safety nets exists in the event that any of us need to use these services. No organization or government gives the homeless people checks or money directly, instead the federal government provides housing choice vouchers or section 8 vouchers which allow poor people to rent houses at a reduced rate. Any of us could fall on hard times, many of us are just a few pay checks away, and it’s comforting to know that I could have assistance getting housing rather than sleeping on the streets. Also the part about all homeless people being drug addicts isn’t true either. Substance abuse was also mentioned by 13% of cities as one of the top three causes for families. People who are homeless often turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with their situations. They use substances in an attempt to attain temporary relief from their problems. In reality, however, substance dependence only exacerbates their problems and decreases their ability to achieve employment stability and get off the streets. Additionally, some people may view drug and alcohol use as necessary to be accepted among the homeless community (Didenko and Pankratz, 2007). Breaking an addiction is difficult for anyone, especially for substance abusers who are homeless. • Motivation to stop using substance may be low. For many homeless people, survival is more important than personal growth and development, and finding food and shelter take a higher priority than drug counseling. • Many homeless people have also become estranged from their families and friends. Without a social support network, recovering from a substance addiction is extremely difficult. • Even if they do break their addictions, homeless people face the difficulty of resisting widely accessible substances in very near proximity (Fishet and Roget, 2009). • Unfortunately, many treatment programs focus on abstinence only programming, which is less effective than harm- reduction strategies and does not address the possibility of relapse (National Health Care for the Homeless Council, 2007). Substance abuse often occurs simultaneously with mental illness. People with untreated mental illnesses frequently use street drugs as a form of self-medication. Homeless people with both substance disorders and mental illness experience additional obstacles to recovery, such as increased risk for violence and victimization and frequent cycling between the streets, jails and emergency rooms (Fisher and Roget, 2009). Unfortunately, these people are often unable to find treatment facilities that will help them. Instead of penalizing people for drugs alcohol and substance abuse we as a society should give these people support, and the opportunity to get better in life instead of stigmatizing heir situations.

@Angelo Stevens proof that Canada and UK health care system is horrible, or stfu
@cmecoo31094 жыл бұрын
@Angelo Stevens The NHS has its issue, the main one being is that 10 years of conservative governments have refused to fund it to cope with demand. The problem isn't the NHS as an institution, the problem is right wingers campaign to dismantle the social safety net piece by piece until it's all been sold off to the lowest bidder. Also for the record, we still have private medical care and insurance in the UK, the point of the NHS is that you don't NEED private insurance, it's simply there for people who can afford and want it, but it's not needed.
@cmecoo31094 жыл бұрын
@Angelo Stevens about 10% of people also have private medical insurance. However your point about being "forced to pay" is ridiculous. Everyone pays into the NHS because at some point, everyone needs the NHS, private insurance for instance doesn't cover emergency treatment. Also this idea of not paying for something because you don't think you'll need it is ridiculous. That would be like saying "well why should my taxes go to a police force? No one has burgled MY house"
@Dennzer14 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It's all propaganda. the attacks against Bernie are uniformally weak or dishonest, they have nothing.
@cmecoo31094 жыл бұрын
@Angelo Stevens private insurance doesn't cover emergency medical care because it doesn't NEED to cover emergency medical care and the private hospitals that do exist don't have emergency departments because they don't need to have them. The demand for a private emergency care doesn't exist because people are happy with the NHS, not to mention it would make no sense for a paramedic to dive a patient to a private hospital with an ED(if they existed) when chances are they'll be far more NHS hospitals with an A&E closer. Also the main reason, at least from the people I do know that have private insurance, for them opting to buy it has nothing to do with the quality of service, they would just rather a hospital bed go to someone who isn't lucky enough to afford private insurance. You clearly have no idea about how the NHS works or why it's beloved here in the UK. The American health care system is a sad laughing stock to the rest of us in the developed world and it's good to see that sensible Americans are waking up to that fact

Americans need to remember that while Bernie calls himself a democratic socialist, he would be considered a social democrat in Europe. The difference comes from the fact that Bernie doesn't actually plan to abolish capitalism but rather to put safeguards on it that are common in many places. @davidslager28944 жыл бұрын
@BRITTANY BOND Actually, Raymond Marti has it spot on; the economy of Venezuela was ruined by US sanctions because they were considering building oil infrastructure with help from Russia or China (thereby potentially undermining the US' virtual monopoly on trading oil in dollars - thus propping up the US dollar in international markets and making it much stronger and more relevant than it otherwise would be). I'm not a huge fan of Chavez, but he actually did do quite a bit to reduce extreme poverty and all poverty in Venezuela. I believe he also improved basic healthcare and most measurable aspects of healthcare. Most of what we hear on MSM is propaganda; our government is the most responsible for a LARGE part of Venezuela's current issues, not Chavez or the people who supported him.
@AbsoluteZero1014 жыл бұрын
@BRITTANY BOND seems you don't know how economics works. Simply explained the reason Venezuela crashed was because the foundation of which Venezuela stood on was the price of oil being high. Once the price of oil plummeted the government had nothing to fall back on. At least in the US we have the national gold reserves if we were stupid enough to have the value of our money be backed by oil. But sure you can continue to think "sOciALisM" was the cause of it all. Edit: As for Venezuela I don't know the full history that has led up to it crashing. I'm sure the US probably had a hand in it just like every other central American country.
@qinby11824 жыл бұрын
@BRITTANY BOND Venezuela is not socialist, it has a full blown capitalist economy. Yes the oil is owned by the state but so is the case in Saudi Arabia... What creates the poverty in Venezuela today is sanctions and illegal confiscations of their assets by the USA and UK (who took their gold...)

Danny Bass ... You really think that Bernie is "telling it like it is?" LOL! So does that mean that you actually believe his line about the little "camp" he has in Vermont too?!?!? He can't even tell the truth about that ... it's actually a MANSION on Lake Champlain. Don't let this liar/hypocrite deceive you.

Bernie can promise the moon, but with a Republican-dominated Senate, he wont get anything passed, just a back and forth, do nothing political pissing contest!

***Long comment incoming*** You know what I have to say to anyone with "good health insurance"? My grandmother spends $400 for her medications a month. It is such a source of anxiety, that she's on anxiety meds. My co-worker, because our place of employment chose to go with a more cost effective health insurance provider, is now going to pay way more one of her medications. She doesn't know what she's going to do. My uncle dropped dead at work because he couldn't afford to go to the doctor, or the medication he needed. He lost his good insurance when he lost his good job. If we had universal health care, he might still be here, or at least lived a few years longer. I understand your fears, but this country needs this. If you're worried about your taxes going up, look at what's coming out of your paycheck every month for your employer based health insurance. If you're not going to keep that insurance, and you're getting the government one, and you end up paying the same or less in taxes, does it matter if your taxes are going up? You're already paying it. You're just paying it to the health insurance company, rather than Uncle Sam. Come on people. We've done this neo con/neo lib thing for 40 years now. What has it gotten us? Going the safe, and playing to the center game, is what has gotten us Donald Trump. And now there is actually someone who really gives a crap about helping out American citizens, and doing something so that not just your life is better, but the lives of your descendants are better. **Edit 2:23 PM** Another thing. If you vote for any one of these moderates, sure they may beat Trump, but I guarantee that they will pave the way for future Trumps. While Russian interference played some role, a lot of why people voted for Trump, is because Democrats have dropped the ball for years. Jobs have been leaving this country for China for decades now. Where have the Democrats been fighting that. Those companies have been making record profits, while our cities and neighborhoods crumble. Where have the Democrats been to say that those companies need to pay their fair share. Where have they been, while real estate developers do nothing but put up these luxury apartments? with rent anywhere from $1800 to $3500? A lot of them in blue states and municipalities. Then all the other landlords surrounding those buildings want to jack up their rents accordingly. Where have they been? They've been trying to find common ground with Republicans. We can waste trillions for wars that don't make us any safer. Since 9/11, 20 years, we could have been working on long term projects to update this nations infrastructure. That could have put people to work, and put money in communities, across this nation. What have Democrats done, but look weak, and let Republicans get away with whatever the hell they want, and be complicit in a lot of it. Now we have Bernie talking about actually doing something, and people want to say that he's polarizing. What is more patriotic, capitalistic, and the American thing to do, than to innovate green energy, and having countries like China and India coming to us for it? Because you know they do need it. We could have started working on these things 20 years ago, when people were complaining that it would take 20 years to perfect. Yet Bernie is the polarizing one, when all this country has done, is stop trying. Someone in these comments had the nerve to say that capitalism has brought us clean water. He's probably drinking lead. There's water running through pipes, that were laid in the early 1900's. Maybe earlier. Yes, you reading this, your water is coming from a clean source, but the pipes are all jacked up. But Bernie is the polarizing one?

When I see comments like this, I truely believe, that american people can change this world to a better one. I’m so sorry for your family member. I also try to do something on my own humble little way: one of the hungarian american newspaper was introducing Trump’s golf pal, mr. Bloomberg, as the only democratic candidate, who has a chance against his Friend, Donald (you know, the great friend of Hillary and Bill from those lovely photos). So I wrote down, what this guy was doing as a major. So the people can see the truth.

sorry to hear about your grandmother + uncle. unfortunately, this story is one of many. and it's crazy how we as a country criticize socialist/communist countries for their "brutal" treatment to citizens. yet 60,000 people die annually in the US because they can't see a doctor? capitalism kills. and to not see how evil and insidious it is to prioritize profit over people, particularly when it comes to their health and wellbeing, well, you're just being a sheep.

Dont let socialism into the US, it wont be any better here than in Russia, Wuhan, or Venezuela

@@warrensanders751 FYI, socialism has been in the U.S. since it's inception, 244 years ago. We have a: socialist, tax payer-funded military, police and fire dept., public schools, public parks, public libraries, public roads, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and much more, that tax payers pay 100% of, which is ALL socialist. We also have a strong Democratic free market system, hence, Democratic Socialism. Anyone who says otherwise, just isn't informed.

I feel like I might get roasted for not being an American and expressing my opinion but Bernie is not a radical left wing candidate in places where I’m from. In fact anyone who wouldn’t want things like Heath care for all would be seen as a radical conservative. There’s a list of problems as long as my arm for my country but the idea someone is left in crippling debt for healthcare is mind blowing
