Fostering emerald shiner populations to enable yellow perch populations to rebound would be a preferable scenario. They probably predate on white perch and spottail shiner too

And also you hardly ever hear about spring Perch fishing ! Is it not good or everyone just worried about the walleye this time of year ? Anyway thanks for your time good fishing

first time I fished lake Erie was in 1987. I had a small bass boat. I caught two 10 pound walleyes in the first hour I was there. It was July 7th. Next time I went I got blown off the lake. Sold my bass boat and bought a deep Vee. Lake Erie is incredible fishing. Thank you to the DNR and all those involved in the management of the greatest walleye lake in the world.

I know he is your buddy and its a walleye channel but you should have got him to admit they dropped the ball on central basin perch they said for years the numbers are good that they changed the way they eat and they are suspended people i know have wrote them letters and they reespond with change how you fish for them they are there but now this year they finally admit there is a issue kinda like you said admit its a problem before its a problim limiting the fishermen to 10 limit is not the answer its the netters anyway thats my grip for the day awesome video keep them coming

Great podcast towards the end you talked about deep water walleye in the fall of 1995 we were catching limits of walleye from bottom in 100 fow off Nanikote Ontario. You never seen a walleye fight till you try to pull them from that depth they try to stay down because of the extreme pressure change and come up with bladder and eyes bulging.

Several years ago, eleven year old Will Tibbels caught a certified 14 lb Lake Erie walleye through the ice on a 3/4 oz Sonic BaitFish.

Lot's of good info. So only 5% of the walleye population stay in the western basin year round. How many migrate to the western to spawn? Did I miss that number in the video? What's the walleye population in the western basin in March/April? Just curious.

Great information! I would be interested to know what his take is on alot of charters running 2 and 3 trips a day and what that impact is and or will have on our Fishery in the future? Or how tournaments like the fall brawl effect the quality of fish?

Mike. I am a Canadian. We still have commercial fishing on our side of Lake Erie. The fish your talking about is a point of concern considering the big female spawners. The commercial fishing is far and away a much more serious issue if the numbers are in decline. Proper and controlled harvesting of lake Erie Walleye should be under the scrutiny of MNR/DNR. Great information. Just a note... most of the walleye harvested in Lake Erie commercially end up returning to US markets. If anybody can offer clarification of this fact. I'm all eyes. I heard this in a DNR seminar over 20 years ago.

Everyone should have a fishing license on Erie, stop the loading up the boat with kids just for their limit , stop all netting also

Benthic species were plentiful before goby and zebra mussels. Ecological disaster unfortunately
