I actually really love this video, feels like I’m just sitting in the backseat getting to listen to two very experienced backpackers just talk to each other casually, no script, no agenda, just organic conversation. Led to some really cool moments that probably wouldn’t happen in a typical scripted video that I really enjoyed hearing, especially Dan’s experience going back to the Grand Canyon, being vulnerable like that for your audience is so valuable appreciated! Also, nice to hear you guys just kind of talk back-and-forth about different gear that you like and dislike, and the reasons why are without any kind of agenda!

@@joshlarue2838You were about to blow my mind, but after a little research it’s not quite what you think. With the stakes, ropes, and nest the weight is 62oz or 3.87 pounds.

I had high hopes for this video, especially considering the enticing thumbnail. I anticipated a thorough revisit of the tent, complete with physical demonstrations of the issues you've encountered. After all, it was your original video on the tent that led me to purchase the X-mid 2, which has quickly become my favorite tent. While I acknowledge the large footprint and learning curve in pitching the tent, the overall tone and message of the first 10 min of this video seem somewhat off-putting. 😬

yep both the single wall and expense complaints are gone by going with the standard xmid over the pro. Also DCF fly is in development as we speak for those that absolutely need DCF in their life. Most of the rest are lack of experience/skinny pitch knowledge and them just being tall.

What defines single wall or double wall? Is it a minimum amount of space between the two walls or mesh and wall? Because many “single wall” tents have mesh and a fly as well. Many of which the mesh and fly don’t touch each other at all.

I don't have the Pro version, so I don't recognise a few of the problems they talk about. It have excellent moisture management (although no tent will ever be completely dry every night) and easy to pitch tight. But of course, no tent is perfect, every tent has it's trade offs. Hands down, my Durston tent is the best tent I have owned, for it's weight and for winter camping! In all other areas, I have tents that is comparable. This was designed to work in the bad weather conditions in the Canadian Rockies and is likely the only Dynema Trekking Pole tent that will stand up to our crazy weather. It is why the X-mid is my go to but I am willing to change my mind if I ever find a better one. So…what I’m hearing is you all don’t like one-person single wall tents. Only seemingly valid complaint is the footprint. Otherwise it seems a little directly targeted on Durston when what you all are really saying is you prefer to use a double-wall, 1.5/2 person tent and not worry about the weight savings the X-mid pro provides. What other ultralight single-wall one person tent do you find to be better? (Ps TOTAL CLICK-BAIT TITLE 🤣)
@907-q7u

Nah, none of the complaints were even remotely valid. Becker owns/owned the Pro 2, he could have had Emmitt draw an outline of the footprint based on the measurements Durston provided on the website and realized it wasn't going to work out before making the Pro 1 purchase, but instead, he bought the Pro 1, used it to boost his channel, gained ad revenue then bashed the tent he helped promote. "Yeah, I'm trying to be nice, right now." then Becker immediately cuts away for an upbeat ad commercial for OnX to edit the rant. 😂

There are a few quirks with it and I do find my ZPacks Atlaplex easier and faster to set up, I use the ZPacks when I know my sites could be tight for space, but the Xmid has more room. Water filters: I am usually backpacking with one or more other folks and I use the Gravityworks "dirty" and "clean" bag system but replaced the actual filter with the Sawyer. The bags are great as you said you just take the bag to the river/lake and scoop the water and then take back to the camp. We always have an abundance of water which is great for cooking, washing up etc and can fill all of our Smartwater bottles in one go. The sawyer filter with the syringe rarely clogs unlike the Gravityworks one.

Uhhh because it's clickbaiting. How many Durston related videos have Becker & Eric made? The dust on the topic settled a long time ago, so when Becker runs out of ideas, he has to find the stupidest reasons to bash a product that didn't need bashing solely for the sake of views and sponsorship revenue? I wouldn't be saying this had he not chosen to use "Durston" in the title because the video does cover a range of other products and manufacturers. The non-issue talking points about the X-Mid are what made this a obvious hit piece and completely unnecessary. Durston IS a great guy, I'm not just saying this because I've purchased his tents (or that I'm in his "mafia" haha), but I have a lot of respect for his TRUE commitment to the community, he spends much of his time wanting to make sure everyone understands what is that they're buying and that they're happy. These two, however, bashed Durston in a weak & thoughtless way (clickbaiting title) and whining over non-issues that fall more into the realm of user error. Becker and Eric both know the nature of single-walled vs. double-walled tents, Becker even made a "5 things I wish I knew" video about the topic 2 years ago, they both know that if they want longer guylines to use the 50ft of coordage that came supplied with the tent for that exact purpose, they both know that quality DCF tents cost a lot of money, they both know how tall they were when they purchased the tent with the entire schematic was freely available on the Durston website, etc. It's a trekking pole tent, not a palace.

@@jmax850 I've watched most, if not all, of their videos over the last 4-5 years. The point that I'm making is Becker and Eric are senselessly beating a dead horse because they're bored and this isn't sitting well with a lot of people, including myself. Becker's review on the X-Mid several years ago was reason I pre-ordered the Pro 2, I've also seen others in the comment section for this video point out that they literally just ordered/received their Durston tent and now Becker and Eric are complaining about a tent that they previously hyped. What gives? Why do that?! I did point out the "5 things I wish I knew" video that Becker put out regarding single and double-walled tents, but here they are acting like it's Durston's fault when it's the nature of single-walled tents. I know the complaints in this recent video have already been discussed several times in other reviews, and that's where those complaints should stay. Not "hey, let's take a car ride and make a video complaining and agreeing with eachother for an hour and title the video what we don't like about Durston's tent!" I hope you understand how petty it is to complain about the length of the stock guylines for a tent that's meant to be pitched close to the ground when the stock length is more than enough. Durston included FIFTY (5-0) flippen feet of extra coordage when he didn't have to! The more they complain, the more they sound like little posers with gear acquisition syndrom that cry over simple problems real men LOVE to fix without complaining. 😉

Tell OnX to make their move into the European or global market, and I'll be clicking that link all day long. Not much point until then (last time I checked). P.S. Though I'm in the UK now, I grew up in the Milwaukee area. Greetings, fellow cheesehead!

Cops have to at least have their ambers on if they speed. For code 3, it’s lights and sirens in most policies. Ambers for lawful traffic stops.

Influencers can do a lot of damage to companies by their words. The title and the feel of this was uncalled for, and simply put, just rude. I also would have expected you to understand the difference in condensation with a single wall tent and the fact that he makes a double wall version at about 1/2 the price.

Basically the only thing I don't like is the stakes they include. The Paria Outdoor Products Needle stakes are far superior. On the Pro models yeah it's single walled. This is the same issue with the Zpacks tents, Gossamer Gear the One, Outdoor Vitals Fortius etc. Dan is coming out with a double walled version later this year. Pitching has never been an issue except if I was pitching on an extreme slope or on a solid rock.

Love the video format! Just three guys talking gear on a road trip! I'll definitely agree - on uneven ground the xmid is harder to get pitched perfectly - but it's still easier than almost any other tent to pitch. I live in the humid southeast US and honestly haven't found the condensation to be a problem. I had a worse problem when I used the non-dcf XMid version and it got soaked up in the Highlands with the dew/condensation. Switched to DCF tents and never looked back. I'll also note that the best setup for humid/wet situations is a hammock with a dcf tarp! Sleeping bags rule for ground dwelling ... quilts for me are too drafty when in a tent. Quilts are awesome in a hammock though! I predominately solo backpack - well me & my dog - mainly it's just easier logistically to make a plan/adjust a plan when there's fewer people involved. I don't mind going with people - I love sitting around a campfire at night - but during the day I like enjoying the scenery solo (plus I stop and film and photograph alot - so it'd drive anyone nuts!). Things I won't leave behind ... polished bowl long handled spoon, Sally (my dog), down pillow, some sort of beanie, alpha fleece hoody & pants (and socks!), and some sort of mat or pad to lay on by the fire, and delicous food.
