I've always wondered if Silver from "The Search for the Legend" episode of Pokemon Chronicles was originally meant to be Ash's dad, especially if it's true that the writers were considering introducing Ash's dad in Season 5. Silver was surprised that Richie knew who Ash was , he saw Moltres much like Ash saw Ho-Oh, he keeps a Chikorita outside it's ball like Ash, and the timeline sorta matches up since Chronicles started in Japan around the time Season 5 was wrapping up. I don't think Ash's dad will ever make an official appearance personally, but it is fun to theorize.

Theory: Do you remember an episode from the Diamond and pearl series? I believe in the same episode that Spirittomb debuts in, an old lady talks about an aura guardian with a Pikachu. Maybe Ash’s Dad and grandfather are aura guardians. We do know that Ash as a powerful aura and auras can be past down form generation to generation. Pulse aura Guardians do kinda act like a very mysterious, and lonesome traveler.

During his stay in the Alola region, Ash was taught basic survival techniques like cooking, sewing, basic healing of both humans and Pokemon and how to properly do laundry. If the writers ever think to incorporate any of these skills into future episodes, he could shock his former travel companions with his cooking alone.

If Ash's dad was a successful trainer, I think his name would be known to at least some of the gym leaders, Elite 4, and champions, yet none of them have ever mentioned him. I personally would like to see an older Ash meet his father unexpectedly to finally learn the reason behind his dad's absence, and hopefully see that encounter change Ash for the better. Whether their relationship can be repaired or not would go a long way to seeing a new side of Ash Ketchum we have yet to witness.

What about the idea of Giovanni? He's a strong pokemon "trainer" and in a position of great power, but very mysterious. The fact that he always had his worst members of team rocket looking after ash to steal his pikachu ensures that he knows Ash never let anyone steal his pikachu or pokemon, Ash also gets "extra training" from battling them like everyday... I feel this theory because that's lowkey his dad looking out for his son in the hard way, if they ever delivered pikachu to Giovanni Ash would have to chase down the true boss of team rocket.. And potentially his father? Makes sense to me atleast

Whatever form Ash's father takes, whether he is a successful trainer or not, it would just be interesting to be introduced to his character and see what his personality is like. Getting to know new characters is always fun! They always come with their own set of problems. It would be like opening pandora's box. A new adventure would unfold! And that's always exciting! Thinking of all of the possibilities gets me hyped!

The contrast between Tetsuo Yajima's and Takeshi Shudo's thoughts about anime makes Yajima's ideas a kind of revolution. Takeshi Shudo was against romantic relations for Ash and he thought it would effect the story badly. However Yajima supported romantic stories. Moreover he showed it obviously with forcing limits of a kid show with the scene that was written by him. About Ash's father, in Shudo's novelization Ash doesn't like his father. He doesn't want to give up because his father gave up easily. However in Yajima's movie Ash admires his dad. He doesn't want to give up because his father taught him. I don't know what makes Yajima special, why hasn't nobody done before him but I'm closer Shudo's thoughts than Yajima's.

I like to imagine a future episode where Ash achieves everything he set to accomplish when he left Pallet Town. He is revered as one of the best trainers of his generation, and he has the accolades to prove it. And through an anticlimactic turn of events, Ash finally meets his dad. He isn't some fantastic trainer, in fact, he isn't the kind of person Ash expects to be at all. He is exactly how Delia described him: a deadbeat runaway who abandoned his family. When Ash learns of this, he grows angry. Ash had fought in every Pokemon League in every region he traveled to. Ash's initial drive was to be a formidable trainer, just as he imagined his father to be, but the man he has just met are none of these things. The remaining conflict of this episode would be Ash's struggle to accept the truth of his father, and whether or not his father even deserves Ash in his life. This episode could really hit home to viewers that have grown up with a single parent, and for those who struggle to accept their parents into their adult lives.

@@hannahgambino3884 uuuuhhh, that's not true in the slightest, Ash repeatedly mentions the legendary pokemon he's encountered and he's even pissed off a professional legendary hunter by having someone else (the gym leader of Ecruteek city) list off Ash's recorded encounters. Yeah, turns out Ash got fukin video footage of Ho-oh on his first day, and people in the League recognize him for it. Only reason I know this is because I sat down to binge watch the entire series from beginning to end, and found out that EVERYONE has been flat out lying about the anime for decades. You included. Just now. Pisses me off to no end. There IS direct confirmation that the Ash in the Origns film is not the same Ash as in the anime, as it's literally rewriting his origin story and having an entirely new encounter with Ho-oh and Marshadow. But both the Zeroura film and the Secrets of the jungle one act like he's the anime Ash. Complete with team rocket following him around, and heading into a new region with just a well trained pikachu. Dude, did you somehow miss pikachu using iron tail against the giant mecha?

Now that I think about this we never seen the appearence of Ash's father in the series at all even though his father was mention once by her mother which doesn't really make sense at all, I mean Ash's father have been gone since Ash started out as a Pokemon trainer. I wonder if this character Silver from Pokemon Chronicles "The Search for the Legend" could be Ash's father because when Richie once mention Ash's name he was surprised as if he know Ash too, if there's a photo of Ash's father next to his wife and Ash when he was very young then maybe we may know the identity of Ash's father at last.

It's fun to think about who it could be or what he's doing now but honestly, I feel like it's much too late to give a definitive answer. Hell, with Chad dad Kukui, I don't think we need an answer cause that's the closest Ash will ever be to having a father in his life. That's just me.

I’d say that we may never actually see Ash’s dad for real. I prefer to think that way as there is little evidence to show that Ash’s dad will appear in recent times, and knowing the anime, it’ll likely stay that way . We know he’s not dead or, at least, someone Ash has no regrets with, unlike Mallow with her mom, but we may never see him. And to be honest, I’m okay with that.

If there were a way to introduce his dad, I’d say Ash and Delia both encounter him, and Ash learns that this is his dad. Ash doesn’t have much to think about when it comes to his dad, not feeling happy or angry and just treat him like any other person (remember, M23 isn’t in the main timeline). Ash’s dad would also not care much about Ash, instead most of his more impactful interactions would be with Delia. Not sure where to do after that, but eh. What can you do?

Well I have been going through a crazy theory for some time now... The theory is something like this Before Ash Ketchum times there was a great calamity that threatened the whole world of Pokemon and ashs dad was the person who saved the world and died people didn't recognise that ashs dad saved the world and that's how he wasn't recognised as a great trainer Before his death Ashs dad was with jirachi in his last moments... He wished for Ash being a trainer greater than any and that he got a lot of time which leads to the stop of aging of ash Ketchum and every other trainer there is........ Pretty cool theory huh?

(Currently Japan-only spoilers ahead) My theory is that Ash's father and grandfather are Aura Guardians like him. It's my belief that he's an ancestor of the most famous mentioned Aura Guardian, Sir Aaron. In the Diamond and Pearl episode "The Keystone Pops!", there's a mention and short cut to an Aura Guardian that sealed away a Spiritomb, and Ash later follows in his footsteps. Coincidental or not, this Aura Guardian also travels with a Pikachu as his main Pokémon. This is who I believe to be Ash's father. It is also possible that he has some relation to Riley, another Aura Guardian. Ash is shown to use Aura powers multiple times in more than one season of the anime (DP and Journeys) as well as in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. This shows that it remains canon despite the theory that Movie Ash is from an AU. The Aura Guardian concept has actually made a comeback in Journeys with the introduction of Ash's Riolu, now a Lucario. In the not-yet-localized episode 84, Ash is seen getting a Mega Stone for Lucario as well as clearly displaying telepathic abilities with it. I feel like if at any point we'll see Ash's father, it'll be during Journeys. Just my headcanon, though! If you consider the movie, it does a little more than paint his father in a positive light. It also disproves each main theory because he remembers his father, meaning it can't be someone he's met on his journey. Also, I don't have sources for this because I don't remember where I read it, but I believe the universe split was at the end of the first episode of the anime. Meaning anything referenced from before that (like when he was a little kid for example) is canon.

I really have no idea! Both just seem to make sense, but yet they are so different and might as well give a theory which may hopefully help shed some light in my words: There are many points about Ash’s dad’s character and yet for me the only thing that is confusing is the fact that Pokémon is hiding that Granddaddy and Daddy Ketchum aren’t registered (apparently) which makes you wonder. Try to picture this; you’re a writer for Pokémon and for years your team have been chatting about Ash’s dad to get ideas on how to bring him in when suddenly you hit a goldmine after looking through the bits we know about him, especially the fact the he isn’t registered as an official trainer (pls correct if I missed something as this theory is only based on the key points of this vid) and decide “How about we make him the opposite of Ash in ways of achieving his goals? He still loves his son and wife, but he has been training on mt. Silver for a few years after leaving Ash whom was 3 at the time and his mother before heading out on his journey with his trusty Gorochu which we can hopefully introduce into the games as well after getting an audience with the bosses” Yep that is the idea and just imagine an arc where Ash and his father travel together while having arguments almost every single minute about the way they approach the challenges of being a trainer. Plus I would love to see Gorochu back in action and it would be cool if Pikachu evolves into Gorochu levelling up with max friendship while knowing a dark type move. Yes this mirrors Eevee’s evolution conditions for Sylveon. … What do you all think of this theory?

What I like about in Gen 3 was Brendan Father being an gym leader. It was short ended but what would be great for Gen 9 or more he the protagonist Father is champion and you aim to be beat him the character always loses to their father has is learning and growing to be an better trainer. For Ash’s dad maybe at the beginning of his training he was an failure and down for his losses but still kept going and probably won’t return til he is an Pokémon master whatever that is for him.

That idea was actually forming in my head! That would be awesome if we get to see Ash deal with his father who has chosen the path of no return. Would really make a great arc for Ash as he probably would struggle letting this revelation sink in and help him grow even further. Sadly I don’t think Pokémon would want to do an arc like this since I don’t think it would do well as it wouldn’t be for kids then. Why must good ideas be ruined by a fact?! I think giovani watching over Ash in all series not because that he is Ash father but i because he knows about the secret of Ash aura power from his ancestors and most probably i think giovani is the reason of missing Ash,s father or his death. I think he is waiting for activating for Ash aura power to his fullest so that he can use that to control on pokemon world because Aura in the pokemon world is just like how chakra was in naruto.

pocket monsters the animation books are interesting to say the least. i readed a translation of it. i do think it could be possibility of true. i though think it is a alternative universe. it doesn't make sense to have the pokemon world be a bad place to live in. anyway the book itself only thing that can be kept is his dad. anyway, did you think that the main villain of that zorark movie and the main villain of the secrets of the jungle is actually the one and the same? i have idea who ash ketchum's dad is. just going to wait for it to be told by the main series anime to show the truth.

I think he died in the war and his grandfather, too. I'm pretty sure his mom doesn't think he is ready or she isn't ready to tell him. Lloking at Kanto, many were lost. No priests, only one female cop, only a few scientists, criminals, lowlifes like gamblers, and bikers, the elderly men, women, and children. Most of the best trainers were likely conscripted, and many were lost.

A new theory based on the new episode of today. My theory is that the other world Ash is the same as the one that is seen in xy through the crystals. The reason I think that because the other world Ash is a bit wimpy compared to our regular Ash just like the one seen through the crystal in xy. I know it is far fetched but just a thing I thought of when seeing it

He is most likely an amazing Pokémon trainer on a special quest, or he got amnesia, or he died. He could have very easily met a legendary Pokémon and gone on an epic quest to save the world. Ash has done it countless times now. Why couldn’t his father do it? Between space, time and different dimensions he might not even be able to get back. He could be dead. Besides the contradictions we know most of the men died in a huge war. This was a fan theory later confirmed. A lot of moms lie to their children to keep giving them hope. Besides the war angle it’s very easy to die in Pokémon. Remember a few episodes in where ash is being chased by a whole legion of beedrills. That would easily kill you. Even experts like the crocodile hunter in real life are met with unfortunate accidents from wild animals. It happens. Plus going out in the woods or up in cold mountains, death isn’t out of the question. Even ash has died a few times. I know it’s different realities but I personally like to think ash’s dad is red. The greatest trainer of all time. And Gary’s is blue. It’s why they look so much alike. Would love to see them meet. And ash would have to mature to beat someone as strong and talented as red. They could also introduce him IF ash ever ages, and has questions about girls or which one to date. Or if someone close to him dies. Issues where having a father figure around would be very helpful.

My hunch is that his dad could have gone into a space dimension portal just like how a lot of characters have in the past including Cyrus, Lillie's father, etc. Which explains why nobody knew his existence as we'd hoped!

Ashes dad without a doubt is pikachu. From the quote saying he realized what his dad meant when traveling with pikachu and also there’s parralels in the Pokémon live action movie. It’s a stretch but in that movie the pikachu the main character had turned out to be his father (and also Ryan Reynolds’s)

I think the final season of Pokemon in Ash's arc should be Ash searching for his father. And then the last 10 episodes is him hanging with his father or doing tasks for his father etc. Or finding out that his father died, or etc. Its gotta be something drastic though. Thats how you get a watcher to stay interested in this type of arc.

It sounds like Takeshi Shudo was the Pokemon equivalent to Amit Bhaumik from Power Rangers as he was a writer who also had some interesting ideas that would have expanded the Power Rangers series beyond the status quo. Unfortunately, much like with Takeshi, Amit’s ideas were rejected due to various reasons which included the producers’ preference for keeping the series with the status quo.

@@charusharu Yeah, Amit’s ideas for Power Rangers were specifically for Power Rangers Ninja Storm, Samurai, and a proposed Power Rangers adaptation of the Super Sentai series, Go-Busters, that would eventually be adapted by Hasbro into the series, Power Rangers Beast Morphers. But as I mentioned before, his ideas and proposals were rejected due to various reasons as we can only imagine as to what those series’ would have been like based on the information that’s available online on them, much like with Takeshi Shudo’s light novels that go into his initial ideas for the Pokemon anime series.

I like to think red is ash's dad because in gild and silver, it seems like red gave up on being a trainer in Mount silver and went back to home. When he goes back he gets married, and when he sets out to be a pokemon trainer, he's just taking on the gym challenge again. Maybe he didn't finish for like ten years or got lost and/or dies. The explanation for team rocket bothering ash in the anime is that they reformed after red dissappears, because he was the only one competent enough to take down team rocket, and reformed, with Jessie and James joining team rocket, because pokemon yellow is based on the anime and not a separate thing the anime is based on, so therefore the events in Kanto happen like they do in red and blue, and not yellow. But that's just a theroy. A game theroy.

I wonder if maybe Ash’s dad may have left under the guise of being a trainer but actually had to protect a rare Pokémon or something that he could not disclose. There are so many rare and powerful Pokémon and evil organizations out there that it would make sense that he wouldn’t tell anyone where he is at. For all we know he could be in some unexplored region protecting a Pokémon that might be introduced in a later Gen. Ash’s dad could have become a Pokémon Ranger of sorts but his job makes him enemies and so he made the difficult decision to cut ties with his family to protect Pokémon and nature from a crime syndicate.
