There has been a playoff for a decade now. And they are not RANK 7&8 they are SEEDED 7&8. The committee ranked them 5 and 6. AP had them 3 and 6.

Also, while it has happened several times that the 1 or 2 seeds lost, it only happened once in those ten years that the 1 and 2 seeds both didn't make the championship game. Here, they didn't even make the semis. That this happens in the first year of the expanded playoffs is one of the biggest indicators that the official rankings are not exactly reliable indicators of who is deserving of the championship game. Thus, the expanded playoffs are a better solution.

You might overcome 1 loss, but nobody got 2 mulligans. 2 losses will become so normal that it won't even be a story, and someday soon we will be celebrating the mediocrity of a three time loser as national champion.

As a longtime PSU fan I was watching the game with a few friends and when Penn State was going to get the ball back at the end of the 4th quarter my friend told me that they should go for the win and drive down the field. I said that they should just run out the ball cause I could see it ending in disaster. He then looks at me and says "It's not like they would do anything stupid." Not even a minute later: 👁👄👁

They should not have thrown, but it doesn't make sense to just kneel the ball down when you have a legit chance to win outright. Get into FG range and you win, you can't throw chances like that away for nothing. But passing was risky and Allar made a bad decision and got hit while doing it.

Fun fact: OSU opponents are the least penalized opponents of any team in college football. Only one opponent has been called for offensive holding all season, and that was Marshall. If I was the conspiracy type, I'd say it's pretty suspicious that OSU never gets held by opposing offensive lineman.

ND has a very fast, athletic well-coached defense. I don't see much else out of ND. If Aller had a decent game, PSU would have won. I can't fathom how ND will beat OSU.

I don’t understand how no one brings up that Texas had 2 high safeties and dared OSU to dump over the middle, the only other team that did that this year was Michigan (the only other team that gave OSU trouble on offense), every other team that has played man has gotten torched on defense by OSU, even Oregon in game 1 was one controversial offensive PI away from losing off a field goal in what would’ve been a 34 point showing

ND can win if it’s a low scoring affair. I think you gave the Texas defense too much credit. Many of the Texas “stops” were due to self inflicted OSU penalties killing OSU drives resulting in punts. The only team stopping OSU from winning the Natty is OSU. ND needs to be opportunists.

From a Notre Dame/Texas fan, OSU has the better team but I think ND will be, at the bare minimum, competitive. This might be controversial but imo if Manning had been put in and Sark had just run a qb sneak that goal line stand could’ve been a td and UT might’ve won that game. I agree with you that ND will need to have a miracle touchdown (or two pick sixes like in the USC game lol) but ND has a solid DB core that can hinder Smith and the other insane OSU receivers. Also, Leonard is a better QB than Ewers.

Notre Dame fan here, so clearly biased, but I don’t understand the skepticism of Notre Dame’s chances. Don’t get me wrong, I think Ohio State should be favored, but Ohio State showed clear struggles against Texas’s defense which was the best defense they played since Michigan which also stopped the Ohio State offense. Notre Dame also has elite defenders. The most likely outcome is a hard fought game that goes either way. The next most likely outcome is a superior Ohio State offense that wins comfortably. Last would be a Notre Dame dominant victory. That being said, Notre Dame has demonstrated an incredible fortitude to battle through adversity.

I think the bias here is just overstating confidence. Yeah, Ohio State looks like the better team, but it's silly to make specific statements like "it will require a defensive or special teams touchdown for Notre Dame to win". That's just throwing stuff at the wall hoping something will stick and they will look prescient. Notre Dame can win if they have a good day and Ohio State has a bad day. The two teams are basically in the same ballpark; no one should be shocked by either team winning.

Notre Dame just seems destined at the moment, the team really is clicking and all in behind the coach. Ohio State definitely doesn't have the same level of trust in Ryan Day, although I suspect it's been moreso Chip Kelly running the team since the Michigan loss.
