Hey guys the shunt will be showing what you're drawing from the battery, but when you have solar coming in, and the size solar bank you have, it will be that minus the draw you have at all times. So shunt will be measuring input and output, so if you're drawing 100w and putting in 100w at the same time it will show no draw. Hopefully that will help you understand 👍 love the videos!!

In addition I saw their voltage was over 13v depending on the battery setup they may be reaching their float charge value. Not sure what he has it set at but the solar charge controller will also cut back how much charge is coming in from the panels as it nears full charge of the batteries to protect them.

You should consider putting the panels in series pairs then parallel connect the pairs. Mppt controllers work much better with as high voltage as they're rated for. This will give you more charge potential in the morning and afternoon
@ottigreenisgo2 жыл бұрын
100% correct. I’ve got 4 100w panels, 2 banks of 2 in series to up the voltage and then both banks parallel into the charge controller. So 200w at 40v. On a sunny day I still get over 400w of charge current from my Victron mppt charger controller. Sounds like their panels are 40v already so they have 800w at 40v that’s epic

Hello Chris and Ange, this is another exciting video and wonderful to see your progress. I have been cooking on induction for 6 months now with my setup. I have 60- 80 incoming amps an hour on a clear sunny day. If you can plan your cooking while you are bringing in amps during the day you will find less draw and impact on your state of charge thus having less wear and tear on your batteries giving you a much longer life span. It means your induction cooker is running off your solar incoming amps and not requiring the amps currently stored in your batteries. If your induction cooker requires 90 amps an hour and your solar brings in 60 amps an hour then you will be drawing 30 amps an hour from your batteries. It will not take you long to find what is best. Looking forward towards your travels and seeing how you both find your Unimog which you have obviously put your hearts and souls into. Best wishes to you. Jason from Melbourne Victoria.

Love how it turns more in more into a home. Noticed on the roof that your solars had a lot of sand on them. The more your panels get covered up with sand or leafs the less they will produce. If you clean them you should used cooldown boiled water so it does not leave limescale behind on your solarpanels. Look forward to the next week video about the bed lift.

Another tip chuck out the air intake filter supplied and use a dirt bike pod filter . You will have to put a bit of poly pipe in the end so the hose won’t crush when you tighten hose clamp.
@zeushellrider272 жыл бұрын
Just a tip on the diesel Heater put a fuel tap in because if the control panel fails you won’t be able to turn off with a fuel tap you can do a controlled shut down 1 turn off fuel 2 run until only cold air is coming out of unit then 3 pull fuse to turn off. Then buy another control panel and plug in.

Thats a great result with the induction and your battery system. You guys are starting to prove me wrong with my predictions. Happy to eat my words. Great vid. You should really relocate the diesel heater to the floor to eliminate that hot pipe in the cabin and potential exhaust gas leakage.
@vanmanivan2 жыл бұрын
If you can find a way of keeping the diesel heater exhaust and inlet pipes outside the cabin that would be nicer. The heat of the exhaust pipe is one factor, but the risk of an exhaust leak into your cabin is another factor... they don't emit all that much exhaust, but when you're in cold climates you're going to want to shut everything up and run it all night long... The space you've got there is a little awkward though, so might just have to be careful.

Chris, your portable folding solar 'blanket' looks like the one I bought from the big "Regal" store. Re the little flap thingo with velcro on it and which holds it closed when folded up - the flap was covering a small part of the panel .. even this little bit drops the power output significantly. These cheap blankets do not perform well at all if there is even the least amount of shade on them. The best I've seen from my "200 Watt" blanket is 92 Watts.
@wayne19592 жыл бұрын
Awesome work guys. Things are getting real now. I hope you can get that Christmas escape in. Seasons greetings to you both from us oldies here
@ottigreenisgo2 жыл бұрын
The solar blanket won’t show full 200w unless the battery is really empty. So don’t don’t worry it will work well when you really need it. And when running the ac like the comment below, it’s showing the difference between the solar and the the battery bank. You should get a clamp on amp meter like the unit-t UT210E and you can confirm the power draw for each circuit
@shanenorwell85802 жыл бұрын
Love the build guys. When you were running the aircon the meter is only showing what you’re taking from the battery itself. The rest of the power it’s using is coming directly from the solar.

@crasharo56992 жыл бұрын
Hey Guys, don't forget that if the batteries are nearly full, you won't see the absolute highest charge rate going in, it is regulated so you don't damage the batteries. If the batteries are drained, you will see the highest rate of charge going in until such time as the solar regulator or DC DC charger throttles it again until 100% charge achieved.
