Tbh if all you could do is sit inside and wait to die because there was just no "hope or safe place," story really has no end in sight and very little point to exist imo. A story requires thought, decisions, consequences, and progression between the characters, relationships, and overarching sub-plots. The way I see it a zombo film/series will either end with a way for them to kill the undead or they establish a domain to control with resources to protect themselves and co-exist in a world with undead. It's interesting to think about the different directions it can go though and typical tropes.

That’s getting to be ALL zombie shit these days. We’ve all seen and thought about the genre way too much & we all basically know what we’d do and how to survive. The number of times in zombie media now people behave like there isn’t a z apocalypse scenario going on like the douchebag banging the drums is painful. The lack of barricading that goes on, the lack of traps set around habitats etc. In the real world even if the zombies numbered in the billions we’d have that war won in a maximum of a few years. Spring traps, snares, ditches, remote sound triggers in view of sniper posts. Half the time you could wipe them out without them even seeing you. The writing for this sorta shit needs to get a whole lot better.

The thing that pissed me off most about the supply crate was that they could have just taken all the fucking supplies out of the crate and wrapped them up in the webbing and the parachute and gotten the supplies up the hill far easier.

I'd like to think I could take a pack of wolves bare handed and naked. But 'm pretty sure I'd die. Mostly due to me being scared stupid because I'm surrounded by a pack of wolves who would wreck me. This has nothing to do with how many of my brain cells work. Mainly because I'd be operating on fight or flight mode in a situation that is outside my element and current capabilities. This would cause me to possible make stupid decisions because I would be panicking due to my circumstances, of which I am in no way prepared to face. As most zombie movies don't have zombie lore, (I'm unclear if this show does or not) this would be a an unfamiliar situation. Take the Walking Dead, for example. Zombies weren't a concept to the characters before the outbreak. Also, and I'm not sure if you know this, everyone has more than 3 working brain cells. In fact, even the zombies in this show have more than 3. As it's kind of needed basic functions, such as moving and eating. Two things zombies do quite often. And since one of the longest running themes in zombie stories (whether stated or not) is; We are them, and they are us.

These people in the movie makes dumb decisions just to move out the plot. I don't even leave the door and windows of my house unlocked at night now, would you leave it in a middle of a zombie apocalypse? You don't need zombie lore to know that you need to lock the doors and maybe even barricade it to prevent intruders from just walking in. You don't turn your back to danger and you don't send a single person to deal with a dangerious situation in their own when you're in a large group of people. You don't go yelling, banging on drums and making up unnecessary noise. Its even worse that these people survived MONTHS and still make mistakes as if they just found out that zombies exist.

I would have barricaded that place like a boss and waited things out there at least till spring. They could of had spears sacrifice himself to clear that room of zombies then killed him after.

The biggest sin for me is when they left the lodge and the man-child dipped on ‘em, he didn’t just circle back to the lodge. Coulda had the whole place to himself. While terrifying to be alone in such a place during the apocalypse, once PROPERLY barricaded and dealing with that zombie room, who would care? And actually just thought of this while typing… Yeah there’s no way that man-child could’ve done that. He literally beat on drums out of excitement. He woulda died anyway. WSG is right. That’s what I actually like about the show. Throughout the show you see the main characters, who you’re convinced will be there until the very end, get killed off very easily. Screw the dramatic deaths and the fact main characters in every movie and show somehow survive everything (Like Glenn in The Walking Dead). This is the zombie apocalypse, nobody is safe, and there is no time for glamorized deaths. I hated to see Sal die so quickly because he was supposed to be the good guy, but his death and the way he died made it all the more shocking. He didn’t get a heroes death. He died on a cat walk and was shot in the head in less than 10 seconds. Same with Lance, shot in the drivers seat out of nowhere by some random survivors. There are a 1000 ways to die in the zombie apocalypse. Nobody is safe. I love the brutality.

I hated this season. It was a messy, boring slog to get through -- but I loved the episode with Spears and Braithwaite. I'm on the side of believing Braithwaite was a hallucination, so I saw the inconsistencies of his appearance and actions as evidence for that theory. I find that people tend to feel this way anytime a story tries to break away from norms we have come to expect. Though to be fair, most movies don't make sense as it's rare to find a work of fiction where people act like real people. IK as a big fan of season 1 (my favorite netflix season of all time).. I was disappointed in season 2.. There was some head scratching moments in season 2 that didnt make really any sense.. Also, i felt season 2 shouldve shown what happened at the stadium and how lance got to the point he was at.. Maybe found a new group with all of them dying cept maybe 1 ended up living and meet up with the girl that got lance killed unknowingly.. Also, whatever happened to that guy that just walked away with his dog in season 1 lol.. How he died from a zombie.. How did they all end up in that small town from the stadium ?. A helicopter picked them up and took them to a military base then so on and so forth? Then explained why those two groups were fighting in the first place and how they all ended up in that small town... I couldve made a much better season 2 tbh.. The reason why I hate this season is because of how the plot is just so inconsistent to what the characters want to gain. Hey atleast in Season 1, there was motivation to finish the main goal which was to reach the Stadium to save the daughter and infiltrate it by getting guns from a community ran by thugs; this season's goal is going to the Airstrip where the reason is to go onto a plane piloted by some stranger and onto an unknown destination that definitely might be dangerous. I also don't get why they even left Spears, why they tried so hard to go to the mansion, why there are so many useless boring scenes that are mostly fillers, why they left the lodge and so many more. I also hate how they are so bad at developing characters. They made the daughter so bland, the red shirt guy, the red shirt soldier and the two girls so uninteresting and the fact that we follow them for the whole series with no character development is just dumb. We can't emphatize with the characters because they only wanted them to be 1-dimensional dickbags that will kill each other because it's supposed to be 'realistic'. TL;DR shows sucks ass and I regret watching it at all. You guys might have found it nice and I respect that opinion, I wanted to try showing some reasons why we hate the show.

There was one line in the show I thought was on point. Just one. "Rich people never take everything." That one was probably on point. Rich people would also have enough in their closets so that people could at the very least change clothes. Same with the ski lodge. What, the place doesn't have a gift shop full of winter gear, over priced ski equipment, and snack food? Hell, the first thing I would have done was look for the gift shop. Second, find a room, wedge a chair against the door, take a 30 min shower, do a load of laundry. One other thing about the ski lodge. When the girl turned down taking a shower ... I was thinking she is just plain nasty. At the very least take what we use to call a "B***h Bath" in the military. Wash your crotch, your feet, your armpits, and around your neck and head. Minimize the bug infestation on your body. And if nobody is changing socks, their feet are going to be blistered up and nasty. Her bra would have worn her raw around the chest from sweat and salt collection. At this point underwear would have served but one purpose. To hold tampons in place. Whoever wrote this scene has probably never gone 6 hours without taking a shower. When you have down time, personal body care is one of the first things anybody does.

The mom was the character I wanted to get bitten or a stray bullet. She was just annoying as her daughter. The first season was her whining about finding her daughter but she was willing to work with others. Now we had a mom who had no loyalty for the people that helped her find and keep her safe. Yeah I was hoping for a stray bullet like at the end of the first season. Why leave the resort as you discussed? What was the point with dragging the Korean lady since everyone else was getting killed off? Did she have the secret plans to the Death Star ? I thought the first season was...okay at best, with the most interesting thing being showing the plots of different individuals interweaving before bringing them all together. The second season though...holy hell, it was boring. So many loooooong, drawn out scenes of characters staring each other down in silence or doing boring things on their own in silence. I can see having those kind of scenes every once in a while to draw out tension, but they seriously overdid them. I enjoyed the scene in the last episode where the guy kills all the zombies because it was at least interesting, even if it wasn't realistic.

I'm still wondering how this is going to tie into Z Nation, so far the only connection seems to be the title "Black Summer" and zombies, other than that it feels like it's its own stand alone zombie show. It seriously lacks the charm and enjoyableness of Z Nation, something that I like about Z Nation is the fact that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Not that being serious is necessarily a bad thing, if this were a stand alone zombie show I'm positive it would be interesting to see people attempting to be super serious, but this is a Z Nation spin-off/prequel. The mother and daughter story line pissed me off. I know Hollywood is pushing the strong woman angle, but the characters were just unlikable. It reminded me of the daughter in Army of the Dead. Stupidly written character that got everyone killed.

This season was so confusing. Why did Nazeri attack the house in the first place? They just left immediatly after everybody was dead or a zombie. Why did his squad turn on him/each other? What was the deal with the random, nameless group of people who attacked Nazeris squad in the most disturbing, most annoying, most stupid gunfight ever in movie history in that forest? They were standing 10m apart in the open, seeking no cover whatsoever, shooting at each other with no regard for their own lives. The first season was stupid to some degree, but this one really raised the bar. It's a shame. I like the show despite all shortcomings for what it is, but it could have been so much more

The storytelling is bad, but what drives me insane about this series is how evil and selfish EVERYONE is, including the main characters in seasons 1 and 2. (I don’t know why some viewers claim that the Latino guy from S1 was fine when he was actually responsible for that car crash that led to the death of one of the car’s occupants) Also, has anyone found out why that girl in the last season killed that guard in the nightclub/outpost leading to the death of dozens for no reason? Perhaps the primary example of how terrible the storytelling is in the show. I think someone thought that she knew the guy, had specific reason to hate him and everyone there (perhaps she had been a sex slave there before escaping) but the show FORGOT to explain all of that.

I mean, sure he was responsible for the death, but it wasn't his intent to kill the other person in the car. Which is why he is viewed as not being bad. As for the girl, it was subtle, but yes, the whole sex slave thing. Sometime stories use the "show don't tell approach". Her body language and reactions are indicative of a person who has suffered any measure of thought. Failure to recognize that at all is why people think most men are exactly those types of monsters.

Honestly my dad and I binged both seasons recently and throughout Sun's been my favorite character, but I didn't expect her to be the only one I found myself feeling for/rooting for by the close of S2.I especially didnt like the way the writers damselled her for so much of the season when she's proven observant and resourceful before, and the one holding the protagonists' proverbial brain cells most of the time.
