Honestly, Steve Carrell's performance as Evan Baxter is insane. The dude goes from straight-faced to uncontrollable gibberish and seizures, then back to straight-faced at a moments notice. I'm aware it took him a few tries to nail it, but damn, the guy is insane! But one thing that always kinda bothered me is Bruce pulling the plug on his prayer mailbox. He specifically created it to get the voices of prayer out of his head, so are they back at that point? Or did he simply learn to ignore them?

Not to mention he could've, you know, just made it so he can subconsciously separate, judge and respond to each prayer individually as if he was giving it his full attention. Sorry, you cannot convince me there is any possible conflict when one of the characters is omnipotent.

In regards to blood type, while you CAN use all other types for AB+, the limit is one unit of blood, and it is inadvisable (another type's unit is only used if there is no other choice i.e. they don't have the needed type atm) So, no, AB+ is still one of the most needed blood types.

Speaking as if real life narcissists do not settle for those things... Might even be something some narcissists would prefer - to live in a small town and be successful! That way they have less competition! Narcissists have very fragile egos and very insecure people, so I doubt all of them would seek out big cities and successful companies + if that were true narcissists wouldn't exist in small towns and only successful workplaces would have them.

Regular blood donor here, Quick correction: Blood donations are every 8 weeks not 12. I sign up right at the end of each cycle. In theory the writers could have been thinking about platelet donations, which could be done every 7 days. But it is highly unlikely that equipment would be transported to Grace's school as platelet donations take 2-3 hours and require much more hardware than a traditional whole blood donation. It just wouldnt be feasible for a travelling blood drive.

You're right about the wait time. I'm also a regular blood donor, and the wait time is only eight weeks. It's actually still possible for a person to give multiple donations in fewer than eight weeks. Just go to different blood organizations. I don't think there's a national blood database that all blood drives follow. For example, I've given a donation to Red Cross, then after a month, I'd give another donation to a different company just because I was feeling extra generous.

I think the "too much time looking up" bit was about how so many of our problems stem from a lack of respect and love for the people around us - those in the "image and likeness" of God, as it were.
@Leith_Crowther
@Leith_Crowther Жыл бұрын
I mean, you’re right about where the problems come from, but that definitely wasn’t the point of the scene. The point of the scene was you have to solve your own goddamn problems because God isn’t gonna do it ALL for you. God helps those who helps themselves. It’s not a GOOD point, but it was their point.

One point that they touched on but didn't really explore that I think could've made a better point was when Bruce was doing all the signs to get Grace back. That could've been a clever metaphor for God doing little things for people throughout their day that they don't always appreciate or notice but they happen anyway. But with the obvious contrast that Bruce is doing it for purely selfish reasons.
@Leith_Crowther
@Leith_Crowther Жыл бұрын
It’s really hard for a movie with an omnipotent character to have conflict because there’s no reason that character can’t solve literally every problem ever and prevent all future ones with less effort than snapping fingers.

@@Leith_Crowther the exception being the issue of Free Will. You can change someone's environment or change their options, but you can never change their ability to choose - in the context of this movie, that is. It reminds me of how in later seasons of the Good Place they're tasked with getting the awful people to become good and can change their environment, what they get to do, etc. And the people for the longest time still *choose* to be terrible.

While throwing things is messed up it doesn't make someone automatically abusive. My dad has always struggled with his anger issues and thrown stuff in the past. It doesn't make him abusive.

Yeah this kind of bothered me. I've thrown things in the past (though when I was alone, not with someone in the room), and I've never abused anyone. I'm actually more likely to be abused since I'm not a large person, I'm only 5'8. Now I haven't thrown anything in ages, giving up coffee has helped my anger issues tremendously. I'm just saying being angry doesn't make someone abusive.

Maybe the abuse side of things comes from him throwing the thing she cared a lot about in that moment? Maybe that's a potential first step into trying to control someone, threatening them through the stuff they care about to get them to do what the abuser wants? There's a bit more context needed to say for sure. If someone throws a mug against a wall, is it a personal build up of stress resulting in a personal 'outburst', where the worst part is the broken mug at the end of the day, or is it an act targeting a response from another party present at that moment, and the person throwing it was in full control of their actions/emotions, where the broken mug is the least of the concerns? There are other conditions that can complicate things further. Autistic individuals for example can experience the world much more intensely than a neurotypical individual, and this over-stimulation can result in an overwhelming, uncontrollable emotional reaction. This could outwardly appear deliberately destructive and scary to anyone nearby, depending on what emotion 'has the lead' in the situation, when the person in that state wishes it wasn't happening as much if not more so than those witnessing it.
