The argument that the relationship came out of nowhere and that they shouldn't have gotten together honestly just makes me think people didn't pay attention. 1st of all, at least they actually spent time together and didn't fall in love immediately like some other movies (yes I like those movies too but the relationship wouldn't be as realistic as the one in this one) Naveen was a play boy who knew how to have fun and win over women but he never actually cared for someone until Tiana, you could tell because when he was going to propose to her he felt nervous, something he didn't show when he was with any of the other women in the movie. They both have strengths that play to the other ones weaknesses. Tiana spins all day working and never has time for herself. Meanwhile Naveen is always partying and never works. Together they make a good team and balance each other out which is really what you need for a good business anyway.

It’s also established Tiana has a lot of work ethic and pride. I have no doubt Lottie has offered to give Tiana straight up the money for the restaurant, but Tiana refused. If anything, Dr. Facilier whispering “you’re almost there” to Tiana when he wasn’t even introduced as a character yet when she sang that song makes him even creepier. It’s demonstrating that he has knowledge and power far greater than her and maybe even implying that he knows her as well as she knows herself, even though they’re strangers. All from that one phrase. Also there’s nothing wrong for a woman to date a wealthy, elite, or promiscuous man, not to mention Tiana fell for the more genuine Naveen and showed no interest in him at all until he started to open up. The stereotype of black women always needing to be strong is actually known to be very harmful. Women aren’t caricatures or one-dimensional, they’re people, and people are complex. Turns out you can embrace femininity and want to get married while also being ambitious and strong, who knew????

It's really weird to me that Jeremy acts like it's bad if movies with a female lead have said female lead falling in love as if the only thing that makes a female character viable is being a sexless loner. Does he think if little girls watch a movie where the main character falls in love with a prince that that's all she'll aspire towards? There's literally nothing wrong with a character falling in love with someone, that's not 'removing her agency' or whatever. The whole 'independent woman who don't need no man' was meant to be a joke not something to aspire towards.

@DanMerry363 жыл бұрын
The main cause of that is because Jeremy is a fake feminist. A lot of people including Jeremy go way too far with being "woke" and virtue signalling that they end up being what they sought to destroy. Take JK Rowling for example, in her attempts to "protect women" from trans women she ended up reducing women to nothing more than ovaries and chromosomes, which is misogynistic (and transphobic but I cba rn). It's the same as all the 13 year old white girls on tiktok trying to speak for the black community by cancelling things, this doesn't help black people it silences their voices. Jeremy is a key example of a virtue signaller, he spends so much time and effort to always point out strong female leads and other things that just come off as something no real feminist would ever say, and then he tries to justify some bullshit right after by saying he supports strong women it's just all very tone deaf
@johnsnow043 жыл бұрын
Lots of woke lunatics like Jeremy have this idea. Even in modern Hollywood somebody like Keira Knightly is banning her daughters to watch "Cinderella". Because you know, she waits for the guy lol. Heck your profile picture movie has the same idea. Captain Karen needs no guy, she can beat whole universe herself. Hollywood has this idea that females dont need to be good characters but need to be role models. Perfect in every way. Which in turn destroys relatability factor. And creates empty shallow characters that rarely who likes. Tiana is great. She has a dream, she is hard working, but hey she would never pass in todays Disney. Because she didnt beat everybody and because she needs a man by her side to finish her dream. You dont believe me? Take a look at what they did with my favorite Disney animated movie from 90s, Mulan. And what kind of travesty that live-action movie is.
@AliceOfSherwood3 жыл бұрын
I'm curious if Jeremy simply hates all movies because he tried to present a screenplay where everyone makes logical decisions, no logos, no narration, no tension. Everything is explained. And they laughed him out of there. So now he just hates all movies. All of them.

... Am I wrong if I say that Tianas character arc was completely perfect? Don't get me wrong the message of "Hard work pays off" is certainly the one that is the most prominent. Tiana worked hard to achieve her goal of the restaurant she and her father dreamed of. But from the very beginning it was never about the restaurant for her father. He loved food because it brought people together. He valued companionship, friendship and (romantic) love. The restaurant was just a means to an end. So when Tiana gave up on the restaurant it was not because of her submitting to "the woman's role" but her finally understanding what her father meant when he said "Don't lose sight of what is really important" which would be relationships to other people (that she quite frankly neglected for most part of the movie)

No one is talking about how DIRTY Cinema Sins does Charlotte. She's energetic and a little annoying, sure, but Charlotte isn't a horrible person. At the party when she sees Tiana on the ground, she doesn't get mad that the food is ruined. Instead, she asks what happened and quickly leaves her own party to get Tiana some new clothes to wear - even sincerely telling Tiana how beautiful she looks. Then, at the end of the movie, she doesn't get upset that the prince doesn't want to marry her, even though being with him has been her goal from the very beginning. Instead, she gives him up to Tiana without any fuss and expresses how happy she is for her. Lotti was energetic, a little annoying and spoiled but she wasn't a bad character or a bad friend. She subverts the expectation that rich girls are mean and stuck-up. Not ONCE does Lotti belittle Tiana for not being of the same background or not wearing as nice of clothes or having all the things she has. She's supportive, even when Tiana gets in the way of her biggest dream.
@Samfry523 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Yes, Charlotte was a tad bit annoying at times and spoiled rotten, but she still had a heart of gold, a strong sense of friendship and understanding, and showed genuine care and kindness. And I love that cause it's such a breath of fresh air and a complete subverting of the "all rich girls are spoiled rotten brats who think they can get anything they want."

He sinned Doctor Facilier, one of the most intriguing takes on a villain in recent memory with one of the best songs. He's unique to the setting, has a cool look and movement, his comeuppance at the end is the right amount of too much, and he's voiced by Keith David! For sinning anything about him let alone his villain song scene, Jeremy deserves one of the little voodoo dancers sticking that soft spot behind his ear with a pin every day for 5 months.

@@LayMelody Yes, it is a sequel. It’s also a critically acclaimed show that tackled trauma, expanded the world of Avatar, gave us beautiful animation, and had one of the first gay couples and the two first bi characters in children’s animation (at least Western children’s animation). I know that some people just don’t enjoy this show, like with any other story, and I’m not going to invalidate that. But you’re ignoring the millions of people who love this show, their opinions, the views of professional critics, and several important points, while not presenting solid evidence for your argument. If they wanted lgbtq representation, they should have done it way earlier. And don't bring up the comics that came after, because not everyone who watches the show will continue to read the books, which means the message is already lost on them in the first place. Also, tackled trauma? By doing what? Allowing Korra to recover offscreen after her poisoning, and getting her help from her ABUSER to overcome ptsd? Nah fam, this ain't it. The question itself isn't necessarily bad. Most fantasy stories do have rules and limitations to things like magic/sorcery, and those rules are important for the audience to know, but simple stories don't need tons or rules and as pointed out in this video, in many of Jeremy's sins, when films DO explain the rules and limitations, Jeremy either complains about them explaining or ignores their explanations and says they didn't explain. Fireflies being able to separate shadow demons with their LIGHT, for example, is something that's pretty easy to accept, given that shining light on shadows literally gets rid of them in the real world... The magic in this movie though is simple enough that it shouldn't require an explanation.

Actually there is a reasoning behind the dead parent trope in Disney movies. I believe it was sometime shortly after Snow White had released, that Roy and Walt's mother passed away, walt took it particularly hard so for a while there Disney movies would have, specifically, the mother character be already passed away but eventually the trope evolved to be either parent.
