I’d say nothing we judge can truly be a 10/10 simply because nothing is perfect. Desiring improvement isn’t pointless, but the desire for absolute perfection is a truly pointless endeavor.

I've never seen the original CS video, but I'm gonna call typing on a 10-key with two whole hands with only one finger each a sin. Not a cinema sin...a regular sin.

This is because a lot of people lack nuance, they see everything as black or white
@grizzly_manbanimation84362 сағат бұрын
Admittedly I don’t even see a need for a rating number scale at all in this regard. If I like you then I like you, if I like the way you look i like the way that you look. Same with movies and TV if a like a movie or TV show then I like them. It’s a simple concept that just doesn’t need a complicated rating scale in order to explain why you like something. You of course have your reasons but not always need to explain yourself. At least that’s my perspective.

Well said. I can’t help but think of the IGN nonsense whenever somebody gets mad over 7’s or 8’s out of 10… even though the scores are literally listed as “good” and “great” scores, respectively. It’s like this subset of media consumers just want all complexity and nuance taken out of criticism!

Thank you! When did people forget that a 5 or 6 isn't a bad score, a 5 is a perfectly acceptable game or movie. This drives me nuts.

This is exactly how I feel towards the Call of Duty Community. Ever since Black Ops 2 knocked it out of the park as the best CoD in the entire 20 year series, people have done nothing but complain about the next Calll of Duty games being simply average, or slightly above average. Like, outside of Black Ops 4 and Vanguard, these CoD games have been average to above average, but because they aren't masterpieces like Black Ops 2, the community treats them like the worst thing in the world. And THEN they have the audacity to go back to these games claiming they were underrated after a new game comes out.

7/10 and 6/10 are the most generous ratings. I'll take those two any day.
@ShinobiPhoenix-YT08 сағат бұрын
At this point, ratings scores aren't for judging what one likes, it's for putting down what they don't and expecting they should be taken as dogma. On top of the fact we still treat things like high school, all peer review is subjective and contemporary as in subject to times and emotions affecting the decision at the time. They aren't to be taken literal or regarded unless it's valuable to you personally in some way. People want to be taken as valuable and get mad if you ignore that. No one wants to give lower than a 6 anyway except in spite. And no one wants to admit most things are in the middle by default and the rest is your own emotions towards it.

It comes from advertisers threatening to pull money out of review magazines/shows unless they get a good rating. There was a joke about this in 'The Critic' from the mid-90's.

just like in school. A is good, B is acceptable, C is a failure and everything below is a death sentence.
@ShinobiPhoenix-YT08 сағат бұрын
C has literally never been failure. Ever. Even under sarcasm, someone will take this seriously or already has because of parents. It's almost making the point of the video. People need to understand this. Two C/D students have literally been President.
@abthedragon49217 сағат бұрын
I think that might be part of the issue. Some people consciously tie movie rating scores to scores one would receive in school and when they see 5/10 they'll see that as a failure.

Don’t get me started, this annoys me so much. Not least when you see stupid scores like 2 or even 0 out of 10, which is ridiculous in the context. These are shows with decent acting, music, special effects and costumes. That’s worth at least 4 at minimum, you don’t even have to like the plot or the content, the costumes don’t even have to be particularly good. I have seen stuff that genuinely doesn’t manage the above, and do deserve 1s and 2s. People only judge the plot and message. Which leaves out a lot.

I get annoyed when someone refuses to rate anything a ten on a 1-10 scale acting like ten means perfect or on the level of god. No it doesn’t it just means what you would judge as the best. Sports, beauty pageants, etc all have competitions where their is a number one. It doesn’t mean they are perfect just the winner and one to beat. It’s not a big deal.
