I don’t know, I thought that sin was a bit of a straw man by Jay. I actually agree with Cinemasins, it’s pretty unbelievable that Loki (an intelligent character who seems likely to want to gather information about his surroundings) had spent weeks around the Grandmaster and his friends, and hadn’t seen the Hulk fight, heard anything about him, noticed the fans who parade through the street in his merchandise, or had the slightest curiosity about any of it. The way Jay presented it is far from the only way Loki could have learned about the Hulk being on Sakaar, so I’d say Jeremy’s sin was entirely valid.

Regarding the “I couldn’t stop her, so I imprisoned her” sin: this is kinda easy. Hela was too strong for Odin to defeat, so he banished her to the plane of Hel, then set the magic such that the realm remained sealed until his death. Granted this should have been explained better in the film, but it’s not that hard to understand. If something is indestructible instead of trying to break it you build a wall around it that hopefully it can’t break through

This was my favorite MCU movie by far. They blew it out of the water -- it was funny in the right places, awesome pretty much everywhere, and the character arcs were really good. My one objection was the scene where Banner jumps out of the ship to stop Fenris...and then faceplants into the bridge instead of turning into Hulk. I know what they were trying for here -- subvert audience expectation for comedic relief during a tense scene -- but it was the wrong place. It ended up being a letdown and served only to interrupt a really tense, high-stakes scene, whereas it could have been a real Moment of Awesome if the Hulk had landed on Fenris and gone immediately to the "throw each other into the water" scene. Still, that's my *only* objection in the whole movie. Everything else was spot on -- perfect pacing, great jokes that hit on just the right beats, fantastic fight scenes, and some really nice character interactions. Go Marvel! Excelsior!

The sin about Loki not knowing who the Champion was, actually makes total sense. The Grandmaster wouldn’t just stand in front of Loki describing him, sure, but there was no fight in weeks? The Hulk is a rage monster, if the Grandmaster didn’t let him fight in the arena for long enough to keep Loki from knowing anything about him, he’d turn the Grandmaster into a pile of elderly meat. Or his palace into another pile of trash

And, yeah, there was a certain similarity between Sakaar and The Junk Planet from the 1986 Transformers the Movie, but they're both planet-sized junkyards. If they were radically dissimilar, somebody really didn't understand what a "planet of junk" meant.

Sin 27, I've got an objection. "If you can use magic to imprison someone, why can't you use that same magic to stop them?" 1) Is imprisoning someone not "stopping" them now? Odin did stop her, that's why she was imprisoned. If Odin continued to live, Hela would still not be a threat. Hela only escapes imprisonment cause Odin is dying and his magic is fading. 2) It's entirely possible to be powerful enough to neuter someone but not be powerful enough to completely destroy them. 3) Also, just same reason we imprison people rather than kill them (well, usually anyway). Killing is cruel, and if you can solve the problem without killing them, that's morally better. Especially since Hela is still Odin's daughter. She might be crazed and bloodthirsty, but Odin is a very loving father, it's entirely plausible he wouldn't kill his daughter even if he really should.

You missed the part where Surtur is based on Surtr, an actual character from Norse mythology. And Cinemasins just assumed it was some random made up alien thing for the movie to work. Fenris ain't immune to bullets. Fenris is just really fucking tough and also might be slightly undead, so it takes _a lot_ of bullets and/or more powerful, bigger and/or faster bullets to take him down. So they need something more powerful to take him down. Not a sin. They don't even need Bruce to turn into the Hulk for anything other than defeating Fenris! Hulk doesn't do anything seriously major later on, so where does this claim that they _need_ the Hulk back even come from? I dunno what you're talking about regarding this movie not being serious. All the comedy comes from editing/presentation, as well as characters being idiots _in a believable way._ The movie is both silly _and_ serious at the same time. The fact that Thor seems to be taking himself less seriously stems from character development - he's learned not to take everything so overly seriously due to his experiences. He's learned that it leads to confusion, annoyance, even humiliation. And you might even notice that he takes himself more seriously at the start of the film than at the end, so the process is still ongoing. There's a lot of serious character development all throughout the film, and even some implied development with the Hulk from his long-term takeover of Bruce's body. Things that aren't hard to infer from what we see and how different he is now. The story as a whole is serious, and Thor is constantly focused on getting back to Asgard and saving his people and the nine realms as a whole from Hela. Everything makes sense, and there's always that thread of seriousness under the silliness, and to be honest, I don't think the silliness would work as well, and be as funny, if the seriousness wasn't there.

To be fair, he meant the 80s Transformers movie, the animated movie. Still bad that he did 'Oh no, a thing looks like another thing!', but it's not a Michael Bay reference. Also, don't give him the point on Fenrir. Fenrir is super-durable in mythology and no less here. Also, he's a resurrected Fenrir, so he's undead, meaning harder to destroy.

Jay, in EWW TLJ, jeremy wonders how the dice can be felt and picked up. the reason they can be is because the force can exert pressure on things, and would make the dice seem solid.

8:33 I mean, true, Grand Master talking about Hulk out of nowhere is kind of weird, but I still think Jeremy kind of has a point: Loki has been stuck there for weeks as his servant and hasn't seen Hulk once? Hell, they organize parades for the green bundle of rage outside in the streets, it's not like it's easy to avoid seeing him or coming into contact with something pointing you in the right direction.
@localdingus67884 жыл бұрын
I have to agree about Loki knowing about Hulk the Grand Master seems like the sharing type so I think he’d at least casually tell his new friend about his favorite gladiator like. “Oh yeah we have gladiator fights here you’ll love it I have a favorite he’s this big green guy he’s super strong.”

C m Every time Jeremy says "This works", I feel like Jeremy wants the good guys to fail, and since he's a jerk, I feel like I should give him 5 sins for wanting the good guys to lose. It's also in EWW Home, Boss Baby, E. T., Jumanji, Bee Movie, Lorax, Gnomeo and Juliet, and he even gave Scooby Doo 5 sins for the ghost trap that worked.

9:44 This is something that cinemasins is actually completely right about. If a ship with quality parts is on a planet full of people that take apart materials and parts to sell and make things out of, it wouldn’t make sense for it to just be left alone by everyone
@zingzaber69896 жыл бұрын
"Memelord" Murphy People probably respect the Gramdmaster's champion. The ship is right outside of his palace where Hulk can see it, meaning it's being looked after.

[hi, I'm 3 years late] 7:03 Jeremy says Hela has been banished "for decades". We know Thor doesn't know anything about her, and it's implied Hela has been banished before Thor was born. Thor is 1500 years old, while technically that can be defined as "decades", I think it's more accurate to describe it as "centuries", or even "millennia" (we don't know that she hasn't, but I'm willing to concede it's just centuries)

I’ve never understood the whole “roll credits” thing. It’s probably the case that the title came after the film was written, right? They didn’t jam the word in the script because they decided it should be called that.

For the last Jedi, try to mention that the methods for using the force has evolved and that Luke as a character has changed because maturity comes with time and age😅 (I notice that a lot of older fans complain about Luke’s change even though he’s a lot older than in episode 5😅)

Does it, though? Who ACTUALLY cared about Justice League?

Earven I did. I liked the movie, and so did a lot of people. The vocal people are the haters, but there are people who loved it. Granted, it has flaws, but it’s still a fun film.
@ChloeAriT6 жыл бұрын
Wait but what haters? That's the thing I was saying, the opinion on Justice League seemed - to me, at least - to have been a collective "meh", unlike the reaction to previous DCEU films, or The Last Jedi.Also, apparently, there is no EWW Justice League, I wouldn't know, I don't watch CinemaSins, I think their videos are boring, but I guess the video not existing would make sinning it quite a bit harder.
@diamondspiderproductions48446 жыл бұрын
Earven by “haters” I don’t refer to the haters of Justice League. The people I refer to are the haters of Joss Whedon. They think he ruined the movie. Also, since when are the reactions to the previous DCEU movies positive? The only one I remember being loved is Wonder Woman. Lots of people hate Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.
@ChloeAriT6 жыл бұрын
And a lot of people liked Batman v Superman - Suicide Squad, admittedly, less so.Also, wait, what? There are Joss Whedon haters? Or do you just mean people who preferred Zack Snyder? Because they liked Batman v Superman.

12:28 I question as to just WHY didn't he steal the Space Stone earlier and keep it on him to use in a emergency? Surely Loki would recognize it as the perfect tool to use to escape in an emergency? Considering how cunning Loki is supposed to be and has been to shown to be in the first two Thor movies (Avengers doesn't count because he was under the influence of the Mind Stone) He would have surely created back up plans for an emergency which is what makes Loki's death in Infinity War seem unrealistic. Loki was Asgard's best sorcerer after Frigga died yet he seemingly didn't know the spell that Heimdall used to summon the Bifrost to send Banner to Earth? Also, I find the Bifrost to be the most awesome thing in the MCU.
