Yes, I agree, that should've definitely been at least one sin off. Dan really started to show to really be loyal to Forrest, here and when he showed at up at Forrest's boat like he earlier promised. Also, even though cinemasins said that Forrest's diagnosis was never officially explained in the movie, I think alot of it is because Forrest was autistic and autism wasn't really known yet during the time periods this movie took place. But he was autistic and not retarded because he wasn't slow in every area like someone with down syndrome, he was slow in some areas and didn't understand certain things that many adults do, but he exceeded remarkably in other areas such as in the army, running, and ping pong

JFC, the point of Forrest gump is that someone slow, who would normally be treated with contempt, turned out to be a more noble character than people who were ‘fully functional’. The fact that he is named after a klu klux klan member, then goes on to give half of his fortune to the family of the black man who gave him a business idea allegorizes that one’s destiny isn’t predetermined, and that it can actually be virtuous to be simple minded.
@Super-Shafs Жыл бұрын

We were all fooled by this movie when it first came out. In actuality, the military will never recruit a below average person because he would put his life as well as the lives of his fellow soldiers in danger, and so there goes all his heroics, meeting his best friend, that LT and ultimately becoming a millionaire. And then there are some of those intelligent lines that he comes up with like the meaning of life is both accident and destiny which again can not come from a below average person, and if it does, then he is a normal person, and thus no Forest Gump with a limited IQ but a kind hearted person.
@kt9166 Жыл бұрын
Not sure about the correlation of being simple and virtuous, but my late sister's son and his wife have a child with down syndrome. She is now three years old, and is the happiest, smilingest little girl you would ever want to meet. Her six year old brother is super protective of her. She has gone through many hospitalizations for all that she needs fixed, and through it all is sunny and beautiful. She gets and gives so much love. And no one treats her as "Slow". This movie is fascinating bc there's such a divide in reception. You either love it or hate it for the same reasons but have the opposite reactions. Like I basically disagree with every sin having the opposing opinion of the scene or story. I think one of the biggest causes is that Jenny is one of the most misunderstood characters in popular film history. There was a period in the mid 90s where movies and TV were doing a lot of the "editing modern actors into old footage" thing because digital video technology and remastering had just reached the point where it could look believable. A good example is the episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine where the crew time travels back to an episode of the original Star Trek series and interacts with characters like Kirk and Spock. Honestly I think a good chunk of the early inspiration for Forrest Gump was the idea of telling someone's life story and showing them in historical footage as an unlikely background character.

You'd think though that she would've contacted it during all her drug shooting days in San Francisco, which was before the scene where she met with Forrest back at his house, but it looked like Forrest never got HIV or AIDS himself. Unless, since you can carry the virus for years before it makes you sick, what if Forrest did contact HIV and just didn't get AIDS until after the last scene in the movie? That would've given the movie a much darker tone. But luckily, I don't think that the filmmakers implied that that was ever to happen

On the Wedding scene, Lt. Dan could not sit. According to multiple people I asked, including my Orthopedist, prosthetic legs of the early 80s did not bend at the knee like modern prosthetics. Therefore, he would have to remove his legs to sit down. Now, think of the logistics; Lt Dan would have to take off his legs for the ceremony, put them back on to walk to the reception. Then, take them off again to sit at the table.

Very well said. As much as the movie makes a big deal out of Forrest supposedly being stupid, I never really saw the character as being all that stupid. He's slow but he's not really stupid. Like you said, Jenny spends the movie making stupid and bad decisions while Forrest ends up making good and intelligent decisions. The Vietnam war scenes were some of the scenes from the movie that showed how intelligent he is, as I heard some other people mention. He understands that he's in a life or death situation and how serious the situation is and you see him firing his rifle, engaging the enemy, showing courage under fire and bravely saving the other men( including Lieutenant Dan) in his platoon at the risk of his own life. If he was really as stupid as people claimed him to be, he wouldn't have survived the war in the first place( or even VOLUNTEERED to serve in the military in a time of war and to go to Vietnam when so many other people were going out of their way NOT to be sent and when so many other people were doing everything in their power to doge being drafted). There are a lot more dumber characters than Forrest in the movie( Jenny being one of them for the better part of the film) and there are certainly a lot of people with so-called normal I.Q. levels( and even high I.Q. levels) who are a hell of a lot dumber than Forrest.

Nonsense. He ends up doing what he’s told of the entire movie and his life works out. She dares to not be a sheep, and she gets made an example of. If Lt. Dan were to sit down his legs would basically be up in the air, sticking forward into the back of the person sitting in front of him :P

If you watch closely, you'll see that right leg actually have a join thats moving. But left leg is more like a stilt, and as you said, that's why he didn't sit down. I think that left leg is as a support and right is in order to more natural move and going through the stairs.

About the Dr. Peppers at 3:56 - you state it is impossible due to bladder capacity. However fluid does not go immediately to the bladder once drunk. It goes through the GI tract, then circulation, then interstitium and intracellular exchange, then filtered by kidneys, and then transits to the bladder. So there are multiple compartments in the body, and the bladder plays only a partial role in fluid storage. The mathematics are more complex, and I daresay it might be plausible (but unwise) to drink 15 Dr. Peppers during the course of a meal.

I initially thought Jenny's diagnosis was supposed to be AIDS as well, but according to some more historically literate individuals than I, it's actually HPV. Either way, not really that big of a surprise.
@JLHunter614 жыл бұрын
Actually, from the book itself, and from a TV interview with the book's author, it is heavily implied (and possibly outright stated during the interview--I can't remember) that Jenny had Hepatitis B, another virus that emerged into awareness by medical professionals right around the same time as did HIV. I know that online, in many reviews and explications of both the book and the movie, this is often stated as a fact by people more knowledgeable on the subject than am I.
@MrLolx2u4 жыл бұрын
But.. It doesn't make sense that Jenny gets HPV tho because HPV is a sexually trasmitted virus but it doesn't kill. It mutates into genital warts, crabs and even causes testicular, womb or ovarian cancer but certainly not death like what Jenny had. Its most probably AIDS tho considering about all the heroin she was taking and I think what you're talking about is HBV, not HPV. HPV, human papillovirus, doesn't kill while HBV, Hepatitis B, kills. Plus not only did Jenny take tons of Heroin which increases her chances in getting contaminated by a dirty needle, her unquestionable of multiple sex partners also gave her a huge risk of contracting either HBV or AIDS.
@JLHunter614 жыл бұрын

@JLHunter614 жыл бұрын
@@MrLolx2u Yes, Human Papilloma Virus doesn't kill or weaken sufferers nearly as fast as does either AIDS or Hepatitis B. However, none of these viruses actually kill anyone. of course the kid isn't his. she showed up pregnant and humped him so she could later say the kid was his and go off galavanting again. until she got sick. then she wanted him to take care of her and the kid. she was so messed up by her rotten abusive 'father.'

Jenny IS a horrible human being when you think about it. I get she had a VERY messed up childhood; Not downplaying that- but at some point you have to take responsibility for your actions.
@jsowels195 жыл бұрын
Swen Boxum Swen Boxum ehhh i guess. But she’s still horrible. IMO part of being an decent human is self awareness. How can you take advantage of a mentally disabled man? Not only that but a childhood friend that’s been nothing but kind to you? I think you’re confusing being a decent human being with being a responsible adult which aren’t mutually exclusive. Nonetheless IMO she was neither
@kayhope26025 жыл бұрын
@@swenboxum3685 She didnt actually get her life together until she got pregnant. She didnt have a choice but to get her life together, then she reached out to Forrest. Not because she was being a decent person, but because she knew she was dying and needed him to take care of their son. And theres no proof thats his son anyways, yeah you can get pregnant by having sex just one time but Jenny sure did get around and couldve just passed the baby onto Forrest.

You skipped the two most profound moments: 1) the look on Lt. Dan’s face when Forrest introduces him to Jenny. How Gary Sanise put so much recognition in one look is amazing. 2) when Forest meets his son and asks “Is he...?” It’s the one moment when you learn that Forest knows, and has actually always suffered for it, exactly what he is. Those two moments together take the gloss off the whole movie for just a second acknowledging, yes, this stuff actually sucks as things do sometimes, but you make the most of it and keep going.

3:59 We're old, so we know that 20 oz bottles Dr Pepper came out much, much later. In the early 1960s, standard bottle sizes were 6-1/2 ounces, 10 ounces, sometimes 12 ounces, and, rarely, a giant 16 ounces. Yes, there were quart-size bottles, but those were not considered single-serving, and those thick-glassed quart bottles were heavy!. Until the Big Gulp came out at 7-11 in 1980, a quart-sized personal soda was unheard of except maybe in a movie theater. We don't remember seeing a 20 oz bottle until the 1990s.

Every time I would watch this movie it pissed me off that Jenny always was doing drugs or with the wrong people, because she grew up in an abusive home. Forrest was the only person that truly cared for her, even if he was ‘slow’. He accomplished so much in his life and then at the end, he’s left with a kid. She met with him only to crash at his place or have sex with, until a ‘friend’ came and got her, just to do more drugs and travel. Then when about five years pass, she drops the “ this is your son btw” 🤔

It's funny how back in the 90s we were able to watch real movies in school. I remember watching Water World in science class to learn about global warming in grade 6. Nowadays a teacher would lose their job for showing a movie where a woman jerks a guy off or offers her body to a man so he won't drown her child. It's sad really.
