The demon couldn't possess him because Egon used the Tazer setting to kill himself before he was possessed. This in turn also also allowed Egon to continue on as a ghost, because his work was still unfinished.

@@Mr.Fulton I think the whole generally accepted mythology around possession is that the soul has to be present within a living human in order for a demon to possess them. In this case, once Egon was dead, there was no way for Vinz Clortho to possess him because, as is with generally accepted possession mythology, the soul leaves the body immediately following death. I love, love, LOVE this movie. I know it has some flaws, but this movie makes me so happy every time I watch it. So I'm definitely biased when it comes to defending it. Have a good evening!

I didn't know the actor was dead, but I find this to be a very respectull sendoff. I actually teared up when I watched it. Who wouldn't want to have their lost family member guide them in a desperate time. Phoebe clearly didn't connect with anyone, not her mother or her brother, or with anyone in school. 20:07 Before Egon died, he experimented on his old proton pack by supercharging it, but he couldn't finish it. He helped Phoebe put the finishing touches on it to complete the pack. You can see earlier on when Phoebe is testing the pack, the lights move at a faster rate, hense proving that it is SUPERCHARGED, like overclocking a computer to make it process and run faster, but at the risk of overheating. Phoebe's pack is stronger because it's supercharged, hense why her proton stream is stronger than the original Ghostbusters' proton packs.

I don't know that i would use the term supercharged, but it has definitely been modifedikely for this specific purpose and Egon knowong he would have to go at it alone. Funny, while this is so obvious i a tually hadn't considered this as the reason that Phoebe's pack can stand up to Gozer when the guys' couldn't. Okay but the basement lab thing perfectly explains why Egon was having trouble paying the electricity bill; he had that entire lab underneath his shed! In the movie it's initially used to make Egon seem like he was odd and struggling to even pay regular bills (Which isn't a funny joke to make on someone either way, but yeah) but the revelation of his underground lab thing explains that he wasn't struggling by simply being "too quirky to manage regular bill payment" but because he was obsessed with the paranormal and didn't stop Ghostbusting.

9:06 to be fair, literally 1 or 2 scenes before this he was talking to the girl he obviously has a crush on, and she said she's never been outside of town, or something similar, maybe that she wouldn't get to leave when she graduates or something, and Trevor said "because you don't have a car". He's a hormonal teenager with a crush letting his brain sketch out a future where if he can get a car, he can swoop in and save this girl he likes from being trapped in the boonies, and they can go have a glamorous life together, and he happened to just find a car, so he takes it super seriously and obsesses over it. And even today teenage boys have car phases. High schools in my town still have automechanics class as an elective and kids post online about the cars they're modding or fixing up. Trevor is shy so at first he seems like he has "no personality" but as he is motivated by things like fitting in with other kids, impressing his crush, helping his sister save the world, etc. he starts to show more of his actual hobbies, which happen to include dabbling with car mechanics. They thought that movies have too much exposition, so they imply his hobbies as they arise as his personality opens up more to the viewer and the other characters. You always sin over-exposition, this is how you naturally inject details into the story. Kid finds old car in house, has a crush, likes cars, it all comes together. Or would you rather have five minutes in the beginning of the movie where Callie is like "By the way Trevor, I'm tired of having to organize your collection of 200 Car & Driver magazines, if you want me to pay the fee for your mechanics summer camp I need you to help me out here." and Trevor being like "I'm sorry mom, I'm just so obsessed with cars, you know. If only I could find an old car that I can fix upand call my own someday." He has to have hobbies dude XD Also pretty sure he knew it was "the ecto 1" but he probably assumed it was a replica like the teacher assumed the trap was a replica. People in my city have Ecto 1 replicas, it's not hard to make one.

So - I'm going to drastically over-simplify here, but to answer the question about the 'Eye ghost' and others that appear non-human such as slimer and muncher, no, they aren't necessarily 'demons'. The more traditional ghosts that appear human and all depending on type are essentially residual/trapped energy (where it's sort of just an echo of the past) or just outright not moved on - like what we see with Egon in the film. Something like Slimer or the others, if not from a different plane of existence or dimension, are for lack of a simpler explanation just collections of energy - like an Elemental in video games or the like that has it's own intelligence but was not formerly a living being as we know it. And well, take whatever form they take, some you may be able to easily figure out why, others not so much. I actually found the more scientific nature and approach fascinating over the usual more mystic one so looked in to it a lot when I was younger.

A couple more sins to add: The burger joint kids hung out sitting in a rusted out mining lift hanging above the bottomless abyss. Mom character changed into her mating dress barefoot but then picked up a pair of high heels on the way into the mine. You did mention how Muncher flew away while always staying on the roads, but as far as I understood the use of the proton packs, their job was to immobilize the ghost for a successful trapping. Muncher just kept flying unfazed while being lassoed by the proton beam, and the trap was catching him in full motion. Either the proton pack didn't do its job, or it was unnecessary. But I resent the sins for Egon's ghost cameo. The whole movie was a farewell to Harold Ramis, and I personally had tears in my eyes during that moment.

Maybe because Podcast dropped the controls and it landed front first, and that due to the Ecto-1 going into the fish tail, the gravitational force that typically occurs when you apply brakes rapidly to a vehicle, ended up causing the remote to slide, applying weight to the controls onto the stick used to control left and right movement and that caused the RC car to slide as well.

@@mrcritical6751 i figured this was what they were going for, suring her footing and helping her aim, but the aim aspect is poorly executed. In previous films when the guys are flailing around while tethering/wrangling ghosts i always assumed they stayed on target because they had already made contact and the positive aspect of the beam was attracted to the negative energy of the ghosts and that the difficulty in maintaining that through the feedback down the beam is what caused this movement. But in this, when Phoebe first uses the pack on that hunk of metal in the field, she stays dead on target while she jerks all over the place. If she could do that, staying locked on gozer given what we've seen in the past, should not be a problem at all. I really dig the film and appreciate it for its effort and ability to reinvigorate the franchise, but Jason and his writing partner need someone to come in, maybe from the fandom of GB fans or the great KZbin channel "Channeling Spirits" who have a better understanding of the pseudoscience and lore, because for all their effort, and i can feel the effort here, they misstep a few times hard. Case in point: thats not how crossing the streams works and thats not why crossibg the streams worked in the first movie or video game. Again, i dug the movie but by not paying attention to stuff like that you miss a bit of the charm of what Dan Akroyd and his mad science was trying to do, which the team on the original really understood which underscores the zanyness of the premise. I don't know if he still does but a lot of what inspired the original is that Aykroyd really believed in the basis of the supernatural and the scientific means to interact with it back in the 80s. That very strongly informs the tone of what Ghostbusters are and what they do. Harold masterfully streamlined and cleaned that up into something that didnt sound like mad ramblings, and the props and effects departments solidified that into something that was borderline believable if you suspended your disbelief on one or two simple aspects of the real world. Keep going, but they gotta do better.

You missed a sin: when Ray said an actor bought up most of Tribeca and turned the firehouse into a Starbucks, yet the end of the movie shows Winston buying back the firehouse, now clearly abandoned for some time. Also, the Ghost Containment Unit was in the basement in the first movie, but now it’s clearly on the ground floor. If the firehouse was turned into a Starbucks at some point, you’re telling me people were running around serving customers right next to the Containment Unit, with the light blinking the entire time the place was open? Also, how did the place have power if it was abandoned? We saw in the first movie what happens when you turn off the Containment Unit, so that removes the possibility that Winston restored power when he bought the building. The only explanation is that somebody was paying the electric bill even though the place was abandoned. The fact that they never had a power outage (releasing the ghosts) in the 32 years since Ghostbusters 2 is also a sin. I also want to know what the deal was with Ivo Shandor. Nobody ever went into the mines where his body was just chilling there in a glass case? Nobody noticed he was missing for however long and thought maybe the places with his name plastered on them should be checked out? And he was definitely dead, right? So his ghost was just flying around, waiting for Gozer to return so he could jump back into his corpse and tell Gozer he freed “her”? Also, Phoebe called the number that was in the Ghostbusters advertisement, so how did it go to Ray’s Occult Books? Weird that he would take the number to the Ghostbusters firehouse and drop the number that his bookstore already had, but whatever. The movie was full of stuff that made absolutely no sense other than to invoke nostalgia, but I still loved it.

My theory: Winston, after he becomes wealthy, buys the firehouse to keep the power on knowing about the dangers of the containment grid getting shut off and then, for whatever reason, tells Ray and the others that it was going to become a "Starbucks." As for there being some kind of power outage that could have shut down the containment grid, he could have had a backup power generator installed to keep the power on in the event of a power outage.
@What.99
@What.99 2 жыл бұрын
@@SnakeEyedAndVenomous The way Ray said it was a Starbucks made it sound like it it had happened not too long after Egon left and the group disbanded. I would imagine it took Winston a decade or longer to become wealthy like he is in Afterlife, so I doubt he bought the property and just let it sit there abandoned and falling apart, but told Ray that it was turned into a Starbucks. The movie has a bunch of plotholes and things that don’t make sense, just so it can have moments of fan service and nostalgia, and this is one of them as far as I’m concerned. Like why Ray seemingly wasn’t concerned that the firehouse was turned into a Starbucks even though it had a containment unit that likely held hundreds of ghosts, which could be disastrous if the wrong person had control of it. The backup generator is a plausible idea, but I don’t buy it since that would mean it was gas (or updated to solar power) and would have to be running constantly as backup in case a power outage did occur. Otherwise, losing power and then the backup generator kicking on (which is normally how they’re used) would have to be very fast otherwise the ghosts would blast out of the unit. I’m not sure how much time the ghosts would need to escape, but it happened in seconds in the first movie. Anyway, the generator would require regular maintenance to make sure it always had gas (or solar power), and to make sure there was no degradation or rust so it didn’t fail when it was needed. With the firehouse being such a mess and clearly abandoned for some time when Winston visits it in the post-credits scene, I doubt anyone would have been making sure the backup generator was running properly over the years, if it did have one. But, it is possible. Maybe the sequel will have an actual explanation for some of the plotholes, instead of “here’s some nostalgia, don’t think about why it doesn’t make sense”.

@@SnakeEyedAndVenomous Or it had been a Starbucks for a few years after the Ghostbusters had sold it, presumably it had taken some years for WInston to become rich enough to just buy it, but that Starbucks might also have just failed to bring a profit and the place had stood empty for some years even before WInston went and bought it. But Ray simply hadn't been interested enough to keep up with what was happening with it, and since the last time he had, it had been a Starbucks he just thought it still was. Ray did seem kind of bitter over the whole thing so it would make sense if he had not bothered to follow what was going on with everything that belonged to that part of his past. He might have refused to discuss anything about it with the people he did stay in touch with, like Winston, so Winston hadn't bothered to tell him anything either. And if the place had been empty and seemingly abandoned for years it might also have been broken into. I'd presume Winston had paid for a security firm to install at least some alarms and keep an eye on it, but if it had happened they might not have noticed that the intruders had gotten as far as the containment unit and done something to it, so that might explain why it was about to fail.

I feel like kids using proton packs is essentially like kids using guns because the proton packs are weapons and they're extremely dangerous weapons. But the movie gets away with it and it's cute and adorable with having little kids using proton packs in the context of a fictional science-fiction/ fantasy movie because proton packs aren't real.

0:51 - He probably closed it himself so that no one would come in. Now a ghost has managed to bypass the barrier and he has no choice but to ram through it, as he's running for his life 1:03 - Not only does he die anyway, so that makes this sin pointless, people can survive car crashes and still be relatively fine. This is one of those cases 1:07 - Because of this little thing called tension. The ghost is like an animal, in that is stalks its prey before striking. The Keymaster did the same thing before it possessed Louis in the original movie 1:12 - Well, this is supremely tone deaf. Pretty much everyone LOVED the inclusion of Egon. He's an original member of the Ghostbusters, and Harold Ramis was a major reason as to why Ghostbusters was a major success. This film was made in honor of Harold. He plays a vital part in the story, as the family that moves here is related to him. What they did for Harold in this movie was extremely tasteful in the majority's eyes 1:38 - Again, this "animal" is stalking its prey 1:43 - Because this ghost managed to slip through the defenses before it was turned on again. This was just a case of bad luck on Egon's part. He was literally building a trap at his house as a more permanent solution realizing this beam at Gozer's temple was only temporary 2:17 - What is the sin here? All you're doing is just saying what's happening. In other words, "Narration" DING. Did you expect all their problems to be solved within a few minutes? This simply solves one of their problems and establishes their relationship to Egon. There's nothing wrong with this 3:09 - You serious? Because she doesn't want to IMMEDIATELY stress them out with the fact that they can no longer live in that apartment and HAVE to move. She was going to tell them eventually and wanted to ease them into this new house before breaking the news 3:54 - She's clearly a curious person, for one thing. And second, she probably asked herself that in her head, who knows and who cares. In this scene she stares at the board for a while, clearly confounded by this. She can't think of an explanation and decides to humor the situation by placing a piece on the board 4:50 - That's irrelevant considering he was found in his house. They found no evidence suggesting any other causes of death, and so they ruled it as a heart attack 5:55 - Why would she IMMEDIATELY assume a spirit moved a chess piece? She's a person of science, and logic. And again, she stared at it for a while, meaning she thought about how the piece moved, and after a while she decided to humor the situation and move a piece herself 6:01 - Trevor is a person who loves working with cars. Plus he was curious about the car earlier but didn't unveil it until now 6:35 - The PKE Meter detects psychokinetic energy, and as we know, there are different classes of ghosts, and one way to identify a certain class is by the level of psychokinetic energy a ghost has. Egon's level isn't that high, and so unless he's very close to it, it won't go off as frequently as (hypothetically) Gozer 6:42 - Again, you're just describing what's happening. Phoebe only gasped. She doesn't sense danger as this spirit (Egon) has been nothing but playful, as evidenced by him playing chess with her 6:52 - Egon is happy to be with his granddaughter and wants to play around with her while simultaneously showing her where to go and what to get. Think about it. He played chess to get her attention. He obviously feels bad leaving his daughter and now wants to engage with his family for a little bit 7:23 - Why is that a bad thing? I think everyone wants to forget that movie existed 7:30 - Really? This is a sin? Who cares? This has been a things since the first Ghostbusters, where the trap released smoke after Slimer was trapped for a while. The ghost is obviously trying to escape and the smoke is a sign 7:54 - People can have the weirdest of friends. And even then, normal friends can say weird shit 8:20 - He clearly missed his friends and the pole reminded him of them? That was easy 8:27 - Yes, just like the first, there are stairs that lead up. But which way is more fun? Exactly 8:36 - Janine mentions how she helped Egon by paying some of his bills, as she cared for him. She says he BARELY kept the power on. In the context of the movie, what she means is that although he barely had money he had enough to at least have power, even for his lab. Egon still had a ton of debt that his family now has to pay off 9:05 - First off, that wasn't a movie Trevor watched, it was a video showcasing a car drifting. Second, that scene established that he has an interest in cars. Some people who take interest in that also take interest in their inner workings and what makes them tick He clearly took interest in the car when he arrived at Egon's place as well. And now this scene is further establishing that he's interested in this car enough to take it for a spin. He may not NEED it, but he WANTS to drive it. Key word: "wants." It's not hard to follow These scenes are here to ESTABLISH his interest and knowledge of cars 9:25 - He's clearly having fun, and he gets to test it out in an area where he can't damage any property or hurt anyone 9:43 - Because he thinks they're just that, stories. I mean, when he arrived at the house, he sees Egon's warning about the Apocalypse and thinks it's a good things his mother didn't grow up with him, implying he was crazy This takes place in 2021 and the original takes place in the 80s. As far as we've seen, there are no video recordings of the actual ghosts, and the team was disbanded. There's almost no tangible evidence that the events of the first two movies actually happened, only the word of the people, which isn't enough. Most people, if not everyone, forgot about them. Those that do remember them probably thought they were frauds, like Walter Peck, or they believed what happened but weren't taken seriously Egon wasn't a part of his daughter's life, and so she barely knew anything about him, same goes with the kids. Egon's daughter Callie, was around 2 years old by the time Ghostbusters 1 took place. She wouldn't have remembered those events and probably thought those were stories As far as Trevor is concerned, there are no actual ghosts and the team was making stuff up about ghosts Also, and it's a wonder why you cut this part out, literally after he says this, Phoebe literally says, "Yeah well the stories are real." And Podcast says "So are the guys who climbed the building and saved the world, and fought back an invading army of the undead. Not to mention a 100-foot marshmallow man." Then Phoebe says "Our grandfather was Egon Spengler, he was a Ghostbuster." Later Trevor says he thought his grandfather went nuts This further proves that the world forgot about the Ghostbusters and that the events of the first two movie were labeled as stories, and so Trevor's mother would've had no idea of Egon's adventures or the world almost ending being real. These kids were born almost 20 years after those events 9:54 - What he means is that the person reporting the incident saw bite marks, and not the creature. But even then, what else would the person say? Who would believe him if he said it was a ghost? 10:05 - Maybe it took a bite out of the garbage, and didn't like it, and so it left the "food" and went to find something tastier. Who cares? 10:16 - Ok......I'm waiting for your point 10:20 - An undefined amount of time passed between Trevor picking up Phoebe, and the team chasing Muncher. Podcast could've figured out the controls during the trip to town 10:29 - It's almost like they get arrested later 10:41 - That's because in the original they had to keep Slimer in place above the trap, and because the trap was non-mobile they needed 2 streams to keep him from moving. But now, with this trap, they can follow the ghost and keep the trap under him since it's MOVING ALONG WITH the ghost. So this negates the need for multiple beams. You can see that only using one beam still allows the ghost to move, in contrast to using two to keep in place like in GB1. With the trap being able to move, they can now move at the same pace as the ghost giving the same result. Also this took three Ghostbusters as well. Someone to drive, someone to control the trap, and someone to use the proton pack. (This continues in the replies....)

15:29 - That's simply how it works. A fictional world has arbitrary limitations on magical and fantastical concepts. Shocker, I know. It's magic, the reason as to why this magic operates like this (in this instance; in the Ghostbusters world) is simply, because. That's how magic operates the majority of the time in stories. Welcome to sci-fi/fantasy. 15:38 - The Keymaster has possessed a human for a longer amount of time, and has a head start over the Gatekeeper, so this point is moot anyway. 15:52 - I'm with you on Egon showing her where the trap was despite his efforts to hide it. I think maybe it could be him trying to help Phoebe understand what he was doing easier by showing her the actual ghost trap, and that maybe he simply didn't account for her releasing the Keymaster. Basically, with everything that's happened, he was just taking a huge gamble hoping it would pay off, as he believes in his granddaughter. However, your next point about Gozer's minions passing through I already discussed. Egon knew the proton beam defense wouldn't work forever, so he made a trap for Gozer knowing the defense would fail eventually. He was right as Zuul and Vinz Clortho managed to slip through despite his best efforts. And your point about why the two minions mating is what's needed is simply because. That's simply the how the ritual works. Specifically, they need to combine the power of two human souls with their demonic powers, and they can't do that until they possess two humans. With their powers combined with the human souls they've obtained, it creates enough energy to allow Gozer passage to the physical world. Podcast even says that two human souls are required later on in the film. 16:28 - Because there was no need. He basically gave her all the answers by showing her the lab underground. You know, the place where he has his ghostbusting gear and almost assuredly notes on how his machines work. Phoebe was smart enough to figure it out, and was able to explain it using the model of the trap in the lab. Egon knows his granddaughter well enough to know she's able to figure it out on her own now. What you're asking for basically happened. Why write a note when all the answers were already in the house and lab, and your granddaughter is a genius? 16:45 - What is the sin here? No seriously, I'm so confused? If it's a joke, what is it, I don't get it? 16:56 - Well yeah, this earthquake is clearly more dangerous than the last ones, which weren't that big of a deal, and the cops are out there trying to help civilians. I'd say this scenario requires every cop they have. And this is a small town, something tells me there aren't many cops to begin with. 17:31 - F**KING Agreed, YOU DO NOT WASTE J.K. SIMMONS LIKE THAT! 17:38 - You realize all that shit you said doesn't matter right? Who cares if they're demons or ghosts, and who cares how they look. They're supernatural creatures, they can look like anything the filmmakers think of. 18:28 - But that's exactly what they meant. They explicitly say that Gozer needs both the Gatekeeper and the Keymaster. Then the film shows what they actually mean. Gozer is not complete without one or the other, but both, and so she's weakened. It's not them changing the rules, it's them clarifying what they meant. You simply took the statement at face value. 18:55 - Yes, that's exactly it. That's what they're showing, and it's not inconsistent with the rules presented prior. The Gatekeeper and Keymaster have already completed the ritual, so there's no need for either Callie or Gary ANYMORE since they completed their quest and Gozer is now in the physical world. This means that now they only have to function as life support and don't require any specific human, but they can use anyone. Since they already acquired two humans souls and used them to help Gozer cross the border, its free game for either Keymaster or Gatekeeper since their job is done, as they used the power of two human souls already. 19:03 - A powerful deity has supernatural capabilities, I fail to see the problem here. Gozer wants to make them suffer slowly. 19:09 - I'm not sorry to say that you're SEVERELY in the minority with this opinion. Most people who watched this movie actually enjoyed the fan service, as it was used in a way that didn't make your eyes roll, and was actually worked into the story in a way that feels natural. 19:30 - Supernatural, and powerful deity. What other explanation do you need? It managed to survive four streams crossing in the first movie, why is this unbelievable? It seems you're arbitrarily drawing the line with what to accept. 20:00 - I can't believe you're sinning this moment. Pretty much everyone who watched this film, including Ghostbusters fans, loved what they did with Egon in this movie. It was tasteful, heartfelt, and actually pretty emotional. This movie was made in honor of Harold, and I'd say they honored him well. 20:07 - It's not that Egon helping makes the stream more powerful. What he's doing is helping Phoebe by keeping the thrower steady, and making it so the thrower doesn't move around so much, thereby making the proton pack more efficient that it keeps Gozer in place so it can't move. It took 4 streams to stop her last time, and they simply need to hold her long enough until the trap works. Oh look, that's exactly what happens, and all due to an extra 2 streams. They needed more power, and they got it. Is that difficult to grasp, or accept? 20:17 - More bad takes. I am absolutely shocked (not really) 20:30 - Well yeah, he gave power to the capacitor which turned on the traps. What's the problem? 20:44 - We don't need any further context. But here's one reason this could've happened. Maybe one of his old students could've contacted Dana and complained about it, and Dana decides to punish Peter. Maybe they were reminiscing about the past and Peter accidently said too much, which prompted Dana to learn more about his teaching methods. The movie isn't even saying it's their "thing", whatever that means. All the context we need is that Dana found out about what Peter did to his students, and is punishing him with his own teaching methods. That's it. You're simply overthinking it. 21:02 - Who knows? That's why it's in the end credits, to tease the audience and have them speculating what could happen. That's kinda the point of showing this at the very end, to get the audience to ask questions.

McKenna Grace stole every scene she was in with her spot-on portrayal of Egon's granddaughter (yes, even her bad jokes! I loved them!). And the inclusion of CGI Egon had me all choked up at the end. It was a thoroughly enjoyable movie that I feel did the original justice as well as any modern movie could.

Or is it just you throwing your personal feelings into the ep, like you did with the second issue... 2. You treat Egon being in the movie like a travesty, and claim that it was overwhelmingly disliked. From what I have seen, the people that have issues with Egon being in the movie are in the very small minority.
