I’ve owned a few town cars..from a 1979 as a senior in high school in 1989..to a 2004 ultimate that my son wrecked at about 100mph..the vehicle saved his life. Truly amazing cars. Love them. Would definitely own another and they’re getting rarer every day.

Wow! Glad to hear your son is alright and that 5-star safety ratings came into play! I always wanted to own any of the Panthers and last December stars aligned since my dad's 89 Grand Marquis which I remember steering from his lap at a ripe age of 12-13 as he operated pedals.

I never had issues with headlight lens fogging up, always were clear when I had my Lincoln Town Car Signature also I had to replace the brake light switch & the rear airbag suspension & pump other than that no other major issues. These are great cars.

You might want to consider picking up another set of rims from the junkyard and having them bead blasted. A pro paint store can mix you up a couple aerosol cans of either Silver Argent or Silver Sparkle and you can then repaint the freshly blasted rims. I'm doing that with a set of '03 rims from the junkyard...the fan blade style which is my favorite design. You can also repaint the center caps and then use a quality black paint pen to re-do the Lincoln lettering.
@VitaliyKofman3 жыл бұрын
I've touched up my rims over the last year, but obviously they are far from perfect. Maybe I'll do another video this year and will try to do a better job.

The original line that you're talking about on there was also plastic they just get brittle and wrought with all the engine heat and that is a evap line for the fuel Vapors in your gas tank to be recycled back to the engine

If you are going to take this much interest in older cars, it would make a lot of sense for you to become something of a mechanic. The plastic rivets on the underside of the trunk lid are just that. Pull on them (using a prying tool) and they will come out. To reinstall, shove them back in. If they get broken in the process, they sell them at the auto parts store for cheap. Whoever installed the backup camera should have known that and removed them. Then the lining wouldn't have gotten messed up.

I've got an 05 Town Car myself. Its my third panther platform car. I also have an 04 Grand Marquis. I have the same headlight issue as well on the passenger side. I was told the seals on the factory lens is junk and to replace the headlight assembly. I went aftermarket and haven't had an issue since.
@VitaliyKofman4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information! For me it's very intermittent and does go away by itself after an hour after forming. The manual does mention that it's "normal" so either they knew that their seals were bad or it's actually working as intended. After it goes away, there is no residual moisture so, who knows :)
@mikeblankenship45114 жыл бұрын
@@VitaliyKofman also the catalytic converters go bad as well. The car has four of them so beware lol. All 3 of my panther platform cars have had this issue. Others who owned one did as well. They either clog up or the filters inside break lose and rattle. Don't buy factory replacements. Price is in the thousands. I bought Walker converters for all of mine. Got the upper and lower assembly off of carid.com. Never had an issue since.
@VitaliyKofman4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! No issues as of yet, but who knows what the future will bring? :) I do know a good mechanic who has a lot of experience with Panthers when they were everywhere so hoping he can keep it running at a decent price.

The reason those parts rust is because it's exposed to the elements the moisture in the air and that was not treated metal so that's all normal rust that you see all over that engine that's normal every single one of them I've worked on tons of these cars and they all have rust just like what you're pointing out in this entire video every single one of them
@VitaliyKofman3 жыл бұрын
In retrospect, I should have done a bit more research on this Town Car before buying since those rust problems (although common) could have been a good negotiation tool at the dealership. On the other hand - gives me reasons to make more videos.

My first car was a 1989 Corolla in 2012 for $260 Canadian. My second car was a 1989 Ford probe for $540 a couple years later after some friends crashed the Corolla, which was actually the better car, but they both drove and shifted good and were in decent shape. I never drove either of them much, because Insurance in British Columbia is around $300 a month, and it makes alot more sense to not break the bank, and get around on my bicycle like everyone else. So I figure if I'm going to pay out the nose for the privilege of owning a car, I want a beast like this. My only other consideration would be a Toyota Avalon or Camry, but for ones that are $2000 - $6000 and 15-20 years old these are so much better, even if the Toyotas are a tiny bit more reliable.

Thanks for the comment! Here are my cars: 1997 Chevy Cavalier in 2001 (from older brother that he bought used) = $1500 2003 Sentra 2.5 Limited Edition (new) = ~16K 2007 Camry XLE (new) = ~19K 2010 Lacrosse CXS (new) = ~40K 2013 Elantra (new) = ~17K 2016 Forester (new - for wife) = ~24K 2006 Town Car (highly used :)) = 7K I also worked 7+ years for car rental/valet parking company so pretty much drove just about everything under the sun. Out of all, Town Car and that Buick are by far my favorites - although I had issues with every one of them. Some more, some less but I can say that Japanese cars have issues also - despite the popular belief.

I would have someone fix the little dings in the hood if I was you. Won’t cost much. Paint the rusty seat rails and try to get rid of the gorilla glue. Mine doesn’t have any of those issues. But it only has 43k miles and was in Florida before I got it.
@VitaliyKofman4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for all the advice! I thought about fixing hood dings, but I drive about 62 miles per day and inevitably they will happen again. Since those dings didn't break the paint will leave them alone for now. I'm afraid of touching those rails to be honest, but I will try to take the rust off (already got a bottle of rust remover). I don''t have a garage so waiting for the weather to warm up and planning another video on the project :)

On my 4th stinking Lincoln mine 2006 around 144K and garage kept. If you care about the car do a major maintenance before 90k, suspension, brakes, air conditioning etc. It’s built on a light truck frame. Never buy one from up north unless its garage kept.You can work on this car yourself, never buy one in this condition and take better care of it when you get it.

I did replace rear pads and rotors 2. Pretty sure mine wasn't garage kept 3. According to Carfax, my Town Car spent its life in IL 4. I can't really work on cars mechanically. Only light cosmetic work 5. I already bought it so a little too late on that :) 6. I think I'm taking good care of it since there are plenty other videos to prove it :) What do you say to that?
