The NECA Sewer Lair Diorama sure looks nice, but is it worth the $300 price tag? One thing is for sure, there are plenty of reasons why it's not.

I think $200-$250 would’ve been fair. With shipping, it would be close to $400 and that’s just more than I can justify. I want the lair really bad, but I’ve spent way too much on their stuff lately. I bought almost all of their SDCC stuff and that was a hefty chunk of change. I didn’t expect the lair to go up so soon after SDCC. If they spaced it out till say December or so, I probably would’ve got it. But they dropped it way too soon after SDCC and I haven’t had time to replenish my funds from SDCC stuff.

I agree with most of what you said except for the part where you compared a 350 dollar 3 lb piece of plastic in the ghost rider car to a 2 foot wide 1 foot tall 10 lb piece of plastic in the sewer lair.

Do not “buy this anyway” if you’re going to make videos like this. We need more awareness in the community and unless people get out of the mindset of fomo or that they’ll die without newest plastic slab, these companies will only up the ante on their abuse.

yo amazing video do you recommend any 4 packs of the turtles within an £100 budget?

You’ll likely have to up your budget just a little bit. Most of the current four packs are kind of sold out online so eBay might be your best bet. I’d recommend the Eastman and Laird 4-pack that just recently came out. You might be lucky and score that for around £150-160 on eBay. But if you’re patient I’d wait a little bit. NECA is coming out with ultimate versions of each of the four cartoon turtles. They’ll probably be out sometime in 2024 and you’ll be able to piece together the best versions of each turtles with more accessories than you might find in a four pack. With the going rate of necklace prices I would expect them to be around $35-40 a piece in the U.S. I hope that helps!

I will be buying this because the quality of the diorama is really high. The same can be said of the kitchen and Donatello's lab too. These pieces all look fantastic and kudos to NECA for not skimping on the quality. These three upcoming diorama pieces are much better than the street scene diorama in my opinion. They are also better quality-wise than any of the custom diorama pieces that I have seen, (even though I respect the great work those particular people have put into their own scenes as they are just a one-man team!) However, despite that they are only really worth $200 a piece, (probably $150 for the kitchen as it is half the size although comes full of accessories). Therefore I am not happy about paying $100 more to NECA, (plus overly pricey shipping costs as well). Overall if I buy the living room set, all-in I am probably paying $130 too much after including the awful shipping costs. But... while that overpayment of $130 will sting in the present and annoy me for the next month or so, if we look 2 years into the future say, I won't care too much about the fact that I overpaid for it back in mid-2023. I will just be happy that I have a great looking diorama piece that is show accurate and really adds to the overall quality and presentation of my collection as a whole. So essentially this is a better problem to have than if say hypothetically NECA offered a low quality living room diorama for a good value price of say $100. While it would be nice not to pay too much in the present, a low-quality diorama will always stay a low-quality diorama, and in 2025, 2028, 2030 etc. I will look at this hypothetical poor quality diorama and not be happy with it. I wouldn't care in 2028 that back in mid-2023 I made a good value purchase, all I would see is a bad looking diorama piece in front of me and be disappointed in it's lack of quality. So at the end of the day, what I am trying to say is that it will hurt to overpay for this great diorama piece in the short term, but over time that feeling will rapidly go away, but the quality of this sewer living room diorama will always remain. So that makes this a slam dunk buy for me, despite the annoying price! Fingers crossed that NECA do reduce the price a bit in the next couple of weeks though, as I think they will sell a lot more that way and make more money in the process as well as allowing more people to enjoy this fantastic piece!

@@alanthecollector Yeah I totally agree that the value and price is really bad here, I am not happy with them at all with the pricing decision. I am just trying to lay out my rationalisations as to why despite all that I am still going to buy it as I see it bringing me a lot of long-term joy and enhancing the value of my figures, while the short-term pain of over-paying for it will (hopefully) quickly diminish! I did order the Lair because I like it but, there is No such thing as "show accurate" When discussing the 87 TMNT Cartoon. The Lair, Van, Characters etc have almost no consistency at all. Even the voices are wrong a lot of the time. Heck, the Van can very greatly in color/dimensions/configurations in a single episode lol.

“Not making it available at Target” as if that has been an easy task for most collectors - finding popular figures/items from NECA @ Target. If you were a business and your items sold out regardless , would you honestly care if scalpers were buying up all the items? Even when things are pre-order open for a month, people still miss out and complain about scalpers.

Understandable. No plan is perfect, but I'm all about accessibility at the end of the day. If not all, I just want the most amount of people to be a able to get what they want and hopefully toy companies like NECA can make the changes they're able to make it easier on the consumer.

How can anyone argue this is of “good quality”? Until it is in your hands, you’re simply assuming. I have the street scene and the plastic is ridiculously flimsy. The pegs for the background always fall out. On top of that, NECA has a strong reputation for poor QC. Take from that what you will.

You’re absolutely right. I should clarify to say it looks nice and based on the other offerings I own from NECA it should be a nice diorama. That being said I also believe the value just isn’t there in any meaningful way.

Lol.. the video is so nostalgic. Cinemasins. I’m never a fan of neca..lousy quality. But i got the turtles as they are the cheapest and has the most accessories. And the gargoyles series since they have the monopoly. As for this scam of a diorama..$300 should come with both shoe boxes and the van. Thats all i want to say.
