GUYSSS !!! Agggtm got renewed for season two, and Holly Jackson is writing the script!!!!! Things wrong with season one 1. Stanley literally doesn’t exist. 2. barney is not a golden retriever 3. They changed the year and she was murdered, in the book she was murdered in 2014, in the show she was murdered in 2019 4. We don’t get the line “ real men wear floral while trust passing” 5. Most of the scenes are not in the show that are in the book. 6. Where the freak is Ant 7. Everything feels very rushed. 8. Nat is Andy’s best friend? 9. Chloe doesn’t exist? 10. Moral of the story: this is why you give authors the freedom to actually contribute to writing the scripts. Look at the success of heartstopper vs the pushback Holly experienced trying to get them to stay true to the book versions of the characters. SO relieved she’s writing s2 because she will save this show

It is actually so annoying how they executed Barney’s death so terribly, they ruined pip’s interviews and detective-work (especially how they missed the part where her and Ravi recreate the murder) and the actors (other than Ravi and pippa) didn’t feel quite right to me. They also messed up the sets, and all of the changes they had made to the story just makes me wanna cry 😭

Honestly the first thing that annoyed me where I was like "ok this sucks" was when Pip is interviewing Naomi for the first time and she's all tearing up and straight up says "Sal HAD an alibi!" in the very first episode as if that isn't one of the biggest plot twists in the book. Like wtf. And apparently Pip never again asked herself why she would say that? Idk I stopped watching soon after that.

My wife implored me to read the book, she loved it. I was sucked in and finished it in all of a day. We then sat down, and were completely let down by how this was executed. I think what hurts the most is that clues that are critical to solving the case are not even in the show until the last episode.

I know someone already mentioned it about the golden retriever but please remember this was a BBC show that did not have a Netflix budget. And this was a low budget show for a BBC show which is saying something because a lot of BBC shows are not high budget shows anyway. They barely had money for costumes which is why pretty much all the clothes are from your average high street shops and they’re reused in multiple scenes. And yeah golden retrievers are too expensive hence them not having one.

It makes NO SENSE how Elliot knows the random girl he kidnapped isn't Andie Bell. In the book he was driven by guilt and so demented that he made himself believe that a random girl he found on the side of a street was Andie Bell. That made him such a complex character in the book, but in the show he's just a terrible person without any motives other then being a terrible person.

The fact that they did add some of the best bits and they gave ravi so much things to solve that Pip solves in the book? They make her seem less incredibly smart and the bit where ravi and pip test Sals alibi and discover he is innocent was half not even done and was not as amazing and thrilling as it was in the book. And getting rid of Stanley Forbes (i wont say any spoilers if you haven’t seen it) WAS SO STUPID HAVE THE DIRECTORS READ THE WHOLE SERIES??? The actors were really good but the chemistry between Ravi and Pip were not good. Also they do this annoying flashback thing and say pips only solving it to make her feel better abt herself. And the make Cara and Pips friendship seemed a bit toxic in the series. Also the worst bit NAT WAS ANDIES BESTFRIEND WHATTTTTTTTTT???? I WAS SO ANGRY AND SHOCKED WHEN THIS HAPPEND??!!! My biggest thought when watching the show was that it probably made no sense to people who didn’t read the book. I felt like each reveal wasn’t really earned by a proper investigation, and so much important info was removed that I wasn’t even sure if it would feel cohesive to someone who didn’t already know what was supposed to be happening. I know Holly Jackson is writing for season two, so hopefully that helps, but I definitely agree that I’m not sure what they will have to change from the book given the plot changes in season 1.

okay so the thing that pissed me off the most was when Naomi TOLD HER ABOUT MAX'S POST!!!. in the book we get to see her uncover each and every clue and thats what makes the book so good. in the show clues just fall into her hand and that just ruined the fun and thrill of being a detective along with pip. pip finding out about the photo is CRUCIAL in the book so it was extremely disappointing to see all of her hard work basically scrapped and Naomi just telling pip because she "felt bad" or "couldn't keep a secret longer" anyways overall the show wasnt necessarily bad, it just doesn't compare to the books at all. i dont understand why so many changes were made, like nat being friends with andie??? what was that about. and then the whole thing at the end with elliot and the kidnapped girl was a bit different too. and then the thing with the sim card and printer?? like they just dumbed the show down wayyyy too much.

16:40 FR, even though I only watched the show and didn't know his character is supposed to have leukemia as a child, I actually felt somewhat sympathetic and respected that he was a morally ambiguous character. I thought it was interesting he felt guilty about framing Sal and suppsoedly causing Sal's death, but still didn't confess to lying b/c of the strict pressure of appearance his parents forced him to keep. So in the end, when Pippa labels him as a total villain for raping Becca (which is obv terrible), I thought it was an out of place flip on his character. It's like they tried to give him depth as a character and some motivation for his terrible actions and said scew that in the final episode; honestly such a confusing way to portray his character.

The books were amazing, the adaptation was bad. Like with most bad adaptations, if the actual book didn’t exist it would be a great movie but since there’s a book it isn’t great. The casting was 10/10 tho, my only thing was the Ravi actor looking 23. He looked way too old to end up dating Pip, a 17 year old (or whatever her age was). the harry potter example you used when talking about UK books working in the US doesn't work that well, they literally "translated" the book into American English and localized most Britishisms in the book. sure, Hogwarts is still in Scotland, but iconic British snacks and phrases are switched out for American ones. US Harry Potter got changed a whole lot more than US AGGGTM.

Also The Philosopher's Stone is literally called The Sorcerer's Stone in the US. This actually popped into my mind even before he specifically mentioned Harry Potter, so I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've obviously only read the real version, so I had no idea that the content itself was ever changed.

Thank you for your service 🫡 I was mad enough when I found out the book had been Americanized (the version I read, because I’m in the States) but when I saw Netflix was making/backing/airing the show I fully noped out. I haven’t even finished book three because it made me so tense by the halfway point, so I couldn’t handle the show butchering the source material (NO STANLEY?! WT ACTUAL F?!). honestly, as someone who read the books, I hated the show! they removed the whole smart side of Pip and made it plain dumb luck, they made Andie seem like she was a good person and that Nat was her friend, which is a complete lie. they moved the show too fast in some ways, and too slow in others. They twisted everything including the fact that 4 people were arrested, not 2. They changed some crucial plot points like the amount of threats and the way they were delivered and removed some crucial characters like Stanley Forbes, who is a big character in the second book and Ant who isn't as crucial, but is Lauren's love interest in the next book. But the thing that made me the most upset was Pip's motivation to pursue this case. They made it so that Pip wanted to know if she had anything to do with it as she told Sal where Andie was in the hallway, whereas in the books, she did it just because she believed Sal was innocent. However, I will be watching season 2 to see if they improve at all.

They also didn’t wear gloves while breaking into the Bell house. That pissed me off to no end because why would they change that? Why make a change that shows the characters being actively dumber than in the book? Because Pip is way too smart to break in without gloves!

i couldn’t even get through the first episode bc it was that bad. i’m going to try and watch it again but it’s going to be hard for me. i was ranting about this video bc how can netflix mess up THAT BADLY?! also, in the second book i was sobbing at 3 am over stanley forbes even tho i didnt even like him at first. she made his death heartbreaking and traumatizing but then i feel like pip wasn’t that good in the third book. i’m only like 50 pages in but it’s so hard to read bc i feel like she’s a totally different person than the way she started which like changing isn’t bad but this change was.

they make pip look SO dumb and unorganized in this show I cannot. like in the book she actually prepared for every single interview and brought her backpack and headphones everywhere. she planned for every single second of her investigation and actually did her research. but in the show? they just randomly have her doing these interviews on her phone, just have her stumble on pieces of evidence, and don’t have her carrying anything with her. my girl deserves better

I feel like season 2 will be MUCH LONGER & improved as Holly Jackson's directing it, I think they would include more character development for ravi+pip (I still love them though.)and every other character. They cut off too much information for it to make sense. Sure, they had enough information for the main plot, but if Holly directed and wrote the first season, we would've liked it more. EDIT: Also, for Barney, hiring a golden retriever dog is very expensive to purchase, so they used another one.

One of the biggest things that pissed me off was the fact Howie was at the calamity party?? His whole character was lost in the show, and we missed a cute PipRavi moment of Ravi telling Pip she wasn't going into Howie's house alone. Because that's where she was supposed to meet Howie... at his house. NOT the calamity party. And why was it in a cave? It was supposed to be in someones house. They really screwed up that part.

im new to the book serie and i read the first bokk after watching the show. they did not do great. BUT now Holly Jackson (the author of the books) are writing the script, and not netflix. so hope they make seaon two better and longer like 9 episodes : )
