I have a problem with these shows. Putting someone to create a gown or two looks in less than 24 hours shows more time management skills than actual design talent.

It's probably a lie anyways. In reality they often get more time than is said on the show. It's supposed to create a more intense atmosphere, I guess. At least I heard about this being the case on project runway.

Judging by the way baking shows are set up, the designers probably have an idea of the theme in advance and come up with designs before the episode is shot

Lol it actually is a lie. One of the designers on the show is actually my teacher rn and she told us that they actually have people work on the garments when the “day is done” and they have to go home. Half the work is done by someone behind the scenes to be able to have garments to show bc it’s literally impossible to make quality work like that within a day or 2 (even with teams)

dont they get to choose their partners though? I thought it was similar to that netflix cooking show 'the final table', where they can either choose a partner before they go on (pros = you know them and work well together, cons = you have to be able to beat them at the end) or meet a random partner there (pros = you have a better chance of being better then them and eliminating them, cons = you dont know how well you work together) and then some partners chose their partner before but have only cooked with them one or two times and some partners have been cooking with their partners for years. So if it's their choice, it's not really a problem to 'fix'

This is really random but I think all competition shows like this shouldn't eliminate people every episode. Like, surely it would be better if you kept everyone there til the end so they all did every single challenge and then you judge their performance throughout the entire season?? Wouldn't that give a better picture of their talents? I mean I know these shows are about getting viewership and not actually rewarding the most talented or skilled but a girl can hope

@@nataliebeaumont yeah what I meant is they should give them a chance to go beyond the very first challenge. Kinda like beauty peagents, where they cut contestants half way through, and then narrow it down even more at the end. That way they could judge them individually also. Regarding the bra point: I never wear a bra with an underwire and specifically look for bras without one. I also hate bras with a lot of padding, so I look for unpadded bras as well. Not saying that everyone does that, but just because a bra lacks an underwire doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a place in the market.

Same. Hate the underwire.

I totally agree. I think it’s really comical that MEN feel entitled to pass judgement on how a “proper” bra should be constructed. In reality, I think that the judges thought the design was lacking and just blamed it on the construction because they weren’t brave enough to critique her design after she played the race card in the previous episode.
@yulana990
@yulana990 4 жыл бұрын
That's true, I myself also tend to get sport bras or bras without wires because my skin is also very sensitive. However it is true that in some cases it is just needed, like my mother who needs it because of her huge size, and without it, it would makes her back hurt more. And the style of bra they made seemed to call for an underwire, so it really depends on the situation

I enjoyed a lot the designers, but I was disappointed with the production of the show: lack of explanation of how the pairs were made, then suddenly splitting them up at a weird point of the competition, very little argumentation behind the choice of elimination, lack of materials (see Ashton for example) and those dangerous bars falling in the stock (which was an unfortunate accident, but still! I like the fact that the majority of the designers actually have some sort of industry experience or established brand. MarcoMarco is very well known in the queer community, Daniel Fletcher does menswear for Fiorucci, Angel Chen was included in BoF 500, etc. My biggest problem with Project Runway is that sometimes contestants seem kinda amateur, like they don’t have the skills to do anything with the exposure the show offers.

And also the point of the show is to be lighter and more watchable for people that may not know a shitload about fashion. It's Netflix FIRST competition show. First I’m HOWLING over the fact that you didn’t like tan as a judge. Honestly I thought Alexa and tan were judges because it would get more people to watch, not because of their fashion backgrounds. Next I love what you said about Kiki and farei and the streetwear. I felt lowkey uncomfortable with the judging of that episode even though I knew kiki and farei definitely needed to go home soon because they were just not meeting the standards for a few episodes. Also I’m a big harry styles fan and I recognized Daniel IMMEDIATELY from day one because harry wore one of his designs several years ago and totally thought he was gonna win the entire thing. I did fall in love with dragon princess though and loved minju’s designs so I was happy with the final two and minju winning. Also loved angelo’s quotes. He was so funny. My underdogs were Marco and Ashton. I hated too when they were called costumey. All in all great show and I learn A LOT about the technicalities of fashion through the amazing designers.

I was wanting Daniel to win all through the competition, he came across as a very genuinely nice person on the show and made a number of clothes I would love to wear. His design is not a million miles away from the clothes I tend to go for personally. I am definitely considering buying something from his brand, the denim jackets he wore quite a lot in the show are very me, and I love the emphasis on sustainability and that the clothes would be made pretty close to where I live as I live in London. (though if Luke sees this please tell Daniel to add a size guide to his website! And I don’t know where to go to try any of it on). However when it came to the final, though Daniel did really well, for me Minju was the clear winner, that wedding dress was amazing. I think if they had more time perhaps Daniel would have incorporated more of the tailoring aspects he had shown before (that trench coat he made was great, I would buy that) and then it might have been a tougher call. She was so ambitious and it paid off. I completely agree that Tan was out of place. He’s good on Queer Eye but this is different.

I dunno if you can live off of a collection that fits into your appartment, but who knows how big the appartment was, right 😂. It's a completely different thing managing a huge firm with marketing people, sewing staff, an HR department etc etc or making a few clothes. I don't hate him, he's a very nice person and I don't think he's horribly dressed and I dont know what he made back then, but if he's extremely knowledgeable, it didn't display on the show. Also, I think most outfits on queer eye from the other four were mostly better than his, and that's kind of...dissapointing from someone who is supposed to judge established designers with their own brands and memorable looks which of them is next in fashion. He might have done some good work in the past, but he isn't next in fashion. So get someone who is. He could have been the moderator and the guest judges the sole judges. I think he watches Tom Ford videos on GQ, because his makeovers all use basic Tom Ford elements. Mix black, gray, white neutrals with some shade of brown. Add a texture. It was revolutionary 25 yrs ago because it makes basic black dramatic when it was more associated more with youth culture.

While I didn’t enjoy Tan France as a judge, he did have his own label. It was a modest-themed label targeted at Mormon women so it’s maybe not high fashun, but it’s unfair to say he doesn’t understand the industry. 🤷‍♀️

He owned three brands total. They were mostly targeted for Mormon women yes. And he's also worked for major retails and couture. So it's not a newbie. Look on Wikipedia or search. he worked his way up. I appreciate this comment because even if you didn't like him which is a personal preference you admit he was knowledge and base to judge. The disinformation this video is spreading is just... And yes unfair

exactly! Like I appreciated the fact that Scotland was actually recognised as a country and the correct flag (The Saltire) was used, as we are normally either forgotten or just seen as part of England when we're not. But for the different countries in the UK to be labelled as just 'England' and use the Union flag rather than England's flag was very strange.

Well this show was really inspiring, it made me grab my old fashion design kit and start creating again. I don't understand the negative critique that a lot of people is having towards the show. It had flaws, yeah, but it's still great. You could connect greatly with most of the contestants and drama wasn't a main occurrence, the designs and fashion were the highlight and that's what a fashion design show should be like.

I was also super weirded out by having Tan and Alexa have 2 votes out of four. I have been waiting for you to talk about this show, and I'm happy that you enjoyed it. I think one thing i change would probably be a setup where maybe no one is eliminated for the 1st 1 or 2 episodes, so the teams of strangers can get a handle on working together and for people to get used to the pressure and actually go forward with feedback. But I am also wishing for a season 2, because as a fashion newb who knows nothing, this was very accessible and dunce friendly.

As someone who grew up during Alexa Chung's "it", which was like 2008-2011, time I was really surprised to see her as a judge on the show mainly because from what I remember of her is her mulberry bag collection that everyone wanted at the time and her well put together somewhat classic aesthetics. She hasn't changed her hair a bit. I wouldn't really classify her look as something near "next in fashion" therefore I think it would have been more interesting to see someone with newer and major influence currently as a judge. Do I know who should be a judge, not really. Though I agree she has been around the industry for quite some time it still was interesting to see her on this show. I always look forward to your thoughts in your videos. Through out the show I was definitely interested in the contestants and really loved hearing about what they strengths are in design. I think the show did a really good job at giving the basic viewer an inside to what goes on in the industry. Alexa Chung is likable, but her looks through out the show had me, someone who is pretty basic at times, shaking their head.
